I think they're classic and appropriate for their intended use which is casual, active wear in cold weather.
But not as a replacement for formal wear.

      Try a little harder.
This is not general style advice on puffers, but rather how the puffer is seen in a specific context. Fashion is all about perspective, and this here is just one perspective among other.

I've worn puffer jackets in years past but decided on a Filson wool and tin cloth hooded jacket this year. Stylish and functional in a rustic sort of way.

My take on puffer jackets is that they are juvenile and unflattering, I am a Husky fellow and I look like as you compaired it to the Stay Puffed Marshmallow man. I tried having one when I was younger but I ended up looking like a basketball with legs. If I want a shorter jacket I will stick to my Barbour.

Most puffer jackets I’ve had have actually not been waterproof. If you buy a puffer from a fashion brand, usually it won’t be. It’s the more technical brands that offer waterproof versions, and those usually are comparable in price with a nice overcoat. Personally, I do have a puffer jacket which I use more for utility than for looking stylish.

You layer them. Wear a down jacket with a waterproof shell over it. Keeps you warm and dry. None of these mentioned alternatives come close. if you're in a cold and wet country.

They're functional - good ones really do work well. I think keep them for activewear/practicalwear. However, opt for something else in more formal situations.

I love that we have finally come to a consensus on Raphael's Duffle Coat, and I couldn't agree more! The Duffle Coat reminds me of another garment that French colonists brought to Canada, called the Capote. It was made from a wool blanket, it had a hood, closed with a belt, and covered down to past the knee. In Western Canada, the settlers began making Capotes from blankets that had designs traditional to the native peoples. This was done to embrace the natives' culture, in an effort differentiate themselves from the United States and Great Britain, who did not appear to have any intention of doing the same. In Boy Scouts, there are some chapters of an honor society that uses the Capote for camping and ceremonies! I still have my Capote, and I usually wear it with a Smart-Casual ensemble but when I go to the mountain, I definitely wear it skiing!

I would agree its more essential for cold weather especially when out in the country or mountains! My Superdry Everest Jacket Hoodie is incredibly to keep me warm in the coldest of weathers! It has so far kept me warm and dry will find out if its as Superdry as they mention when it starts raining heavily at the end of autumn! Puffer jackets were never look as good as a classic Long Coat or Trench Coat, thats a given! I do recommend Superdry for Puffer jackets they are cut so well that I have a number of their jackets over the years.
P.S Love the horrible puns such a British thing to do to get a reaction! Well done Gents.

There is no other coat out there of any material that can do whatever those down coats and jackets can.
They are able to keep you warm and light at the same time.
You can also find some pieces made of woolen outer shell that can level up your outfit to more formal. So, those jackets, as long as they don’t have crazy patterns or bold colors, they are definitely business appropriate.
Italians wear them over suits all the time, and if we’re talking about menswear, the Italians know better

I view them as a non-compromise stay warm no matter what type of thing. They might not be super fashionable but not even a heavy wool coat is gonna beat a high end down jacket from brands like Rab or Arcteryx.
    Also, 2 corrections -
Down and feathers are a different thing - down is preffered in jackets
As of this day, no synthetic material has beat high performance down in warmth to weight ratio

The 'Puffa' jacket, as averse to a 'puffer' jacket, was very stylish and de rigueur for any who lived a country lifestyle in the UK from the late 70's onwards, usually in a navy blue, also a particularly fetching pinstripe for ladies, very warm, very durable and very, very, fashionable, no idea if they were the original down jacket but they were very good.

No matter the quality, a wool top coat can't handle weather under 0C. I have been looking for years for a puffer coat long enough to reach below the knee, so I can wear over my suits, and finally found some options this year. Will probably order from Superdry. Now, I am still searching for tall stylish winter boots so I can walk through 25cm of snow, but unfortunately, there is still no option for men, unless Bogs are considered stylish... Will probably order Bogs also - to go with my suit of course. When it is under 20C, all I care is being warm.

I’m in dubio in puffer jackets. I very much prefer the looks of a classic coat, but puffer jackets are soooooooo convenient because they combine warmth with an incredible lightness. I always try to be kind and courteous, also very respectful, but how a gentleman should act with people which is extremely disrespectful?
My personal example are schoolmates, and they can do things from not saying hello, to making very awkward and unkind questions and actions towards me with the purpose of making me or other people to feel bad or uncomfortable.

I don't wear suits, but I like to combine blazers with pants, shirts & ties, however not knowing the right color combinations I often make mistakes. Could you make a video of odd combinations for those of us who have a similar problem? A puffer jacket is essential for really cold weather. Nobody should wear one formally (ie. suit). Its just casual wear for the elements!

Don't really like puffer jacket, but I live in Arctics, and if I want to stay alive during a wintertime I need to wear it

Puffer jackets are perfectly fine for casual wear or actual outdoors activities in cold weather. That being said, they look entirely inappropriate with business wear. Few things look as out of place as a puffer jacket worn over a business suit.

Not timeless, actually I’d only wear it underneath a more traditional coat for warmth at this point. Over here the Puffer had it’s time from 2016 till last Winter, but this Fall we’re back over to peacoats and the like. You can’t really do the Letterman anymore either, it’s not the same

A puffer and a nice shirt just does not seem to match up to me, looks lazy. A puffer to the football or walking the dog, no worries. Love the videos gents keep up the good work

Haven't watched the whole video yet (may do later when I'm home) but I scrolled to the end and am pleased you said trend. Caveat (which you may have explained earlier on, I don't know?) is it depends what you mean by a puffer jacket. The big anorak type of coat I'd say is timeless and will carry on. However many of the other iterations like the compact waste length down (or loft) filled shortie jackets that have been around in abundance in last few years are surely a trend (and may even be on their way out already)

Timeless, but definitely only for casual use. A shirt and tie with a puffer jacket always reminds me of security guards outside of clubs or parking attendants.

My older duffel coat wears heavily underneath the toggels. Is there some alternative to that part of the duffle? Just seems like the puffer jacket is a pleasant way to get out around that irksome issue with duffle coats.

Didn't Eddie Bauer make warm clothes for WWII aircrews?

    Just a trend
The construction of a puffer jacket is less durable and normally built poorly for workwear

As a plus size person, I never liked this style. Layering is a better option.
On the other hand, my tall lean nephew carries it off well.

Classic. I sell clothes for a living and almost nothing is more desirable in terms of outerwear than a vintage north face down puffer jacket.

I don't like them at all. My ex once tried to get me to replace my good old British Rail guardsman's greatcoat with one. It served me well through the Mongolian winter and does not need replacing.

Whenever I see a Puffer jacket I think of that old Wu Tang music video where they are all in an abandoned building. Just not the look in going for, much more classy ways to stay warm

It’s definitely Not Classic, but it’s not going away anytime soon either best I can think. I’ll put the jacket in the timeless category, though it’s not classic.
