They were probably thinking about guys like Heikki Mikkola, Jeff Ward, Bob Hannah, Mark Barnett, Danny LaPorte, Chuck Sun, and Danny Chandler. Mike "Too Tall" Bell seemed to think that being so tall was actually harder on his knees than if he'd been a shorter man. I always liked the fact that motocross was an "equalizer" sport, in that it didn't really matter what size a guy was. But you're right; all those great names you mentioned were pretty tall; and I'm sure they would've been excellent athletes in whichever sport they chose.
Broc looked so good on that Yamaha with all white JT gear. He was always such a stylish guy, both in his choice of gear and his riding style itself. By all rights, traditionally the winner of the second moto gets the overall win, except in this single event…. As much as I do love Hakan, Broc was the man on this day👍. Glover is highly under rated and I’m not sure why that is?
I was there. My buddies and I went with a cooler of ice cold beer and no tickets. We were a ragtag bunch of young desert rats and we tried to bribe our way in with beer. The guy at the gate was laughing at us for coming out without tickets. I said we spend all our money on premix, sparkplugs and knobbies but we just had to be here. Right answer! He let us all in. Yamaha never made a 500 ..thats a soup'ed up 490 (broc glover)
Broc is on a YZM500 (works bike, it even had the YPVS) so of course it's not a 490.
