  • Hey guys! So ever since relocating from Indonesia (Mia) and Australia (Felicia), we've noticed that there are certain things that ONLY Americans do and are just new to us as Asians! We're not saying they're bad or good, just an interesting observation :P Tell us what you think, or if you notice any more! :)

    • @crownofall
      @crownofall 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Son of obvious when they talk about stall doors in china they mean in Hong Kong very rare thing to find in mainland China or really anywhere in Asia. Singapore would be a decent place to find them. Even in Japan it's almost done heard of in a public restroom to have anything more than a room full of squats and no walls. And as a personal note to that NO WAY IN HELL!!!

    The thing about tipping that most don't understand, and the Employers ignore, is that employees are guaranteed minimum wage. Regular minimum wage is currently $7.25/hr. "Tipped" workers make a wage of $2.13hr, but if the employee does not earn enough in tips to equal $7.25/hr, the employer is legally obligated to make up the difference. If they don't, that is a CRIME.
    So, even if no one ever tipped a server, that server should still earn minimum wage. So, Felicia is correct - tip what you feel is appropriate, and don't let anyone bully you into tipping any more than that.

    The origin behind America's seemingly large food portions is in the days of the Industrial Revolution. Back then, people would work extra long shifts with very short breaks. That's why they would eat as much as they could in the morning and in the evening, so they could make up for missing one meal by eating two slightly bigger meals a day. Unfortunately, when the revolution ended, people were still eating larger portions in their meals, and the stereotype of Americans being heavy eaters stuck.

    • @FoxiestLia
      @FoxiestLia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That wasn't just america, most countries in the Industrial Revolution worked long shifts with next to no time left for breaks. It's just that americans (as per usual) didn't know how to stop. (meant americans as in society, not any specific people, I am quite aware that there are a lot of people in america that doesn't understand that either)

    I'm Asian and I don't understand how Americans order when they enter a Chinese restaurant. Westerners order a dish for themselves whereas Asians order a dish to share. I've been with a group of westerners to a Chinese restaurant and each person ordered their own plate of fried rice.. it was crazy we had so many fried rice on the table. Usually Asians order 1 plate and we share it. Anyone experience this from westerners?

    • @omgg5537

    • @jeffsampayan
      @jeffsampayan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Majority of restaurants like Applebee's, BJ's, and Cheesecake Factory aren't "family style". Plus when it comes to splitting the bill, some don't want to pay for everyone else's food especially if they didn't want it to begin with, so they order their own thing. I personally hate splitting the bill in a family style restaurant when everyone is ordering drinks, because I don't drink, but I end up helping pay for their drinks since they run it all on one bill, and some family style places get annoyed if you ask them to itemize the bill. Maybe restaurants should mention if they are family style and explain it in their menus.

    • @br0dy32
      @br0dy32 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SimonUSA Never seen that before, usually you order approx one Chinese dish per person, and then some rice to share, and everyone shares each others dish. It's still too much food so there will be leftovers.

    • @beethao9380
      @beethao9380 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SimonUSA Americans are about individualism and they don't share food like that. That's why their friends can never be called brothers. Funny though because it seems that when you go to the military, you probably share food and are called brother in arms.

    • @beethao9380
      @beethao9380 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jsnow s Thanks for that perspective. It is different. In an Asian restaurant the dishes are made differently. It's like a full plate of fried rice, stir fry, etc. In american restaurant, it's burger with fries and a drink. It's only catered to one person.

    • @emilyh3448
      @emilyh3448 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +brieann hayden The strange thing is that when my dad was growing up, it was actually common for the family to take care of their grandparents. In a way, grandparents were there to watch kids. My great grandmother, for example, would spend a number of months with one family to another to get to know the grandchildren. I don't know why, but this has changed. Maybe if my grandfather was actually watched by our family he wouldn't have become a sugar daddy to three ladies. Dude made at least $100,000 a year and went into financial troubles trying to support his three lady friends and their gang.
      But there is a point where you can't provide or support your parent the same way a facility can depending on medical complications. If either of my parents were to get Alzheimers, I would step into the situation to help out. Others may simply have priorities such as work they can't put down to always be there for their parents. I know the idea of putting one's own life and work above their family can be horrible, but it is the reality of the times we live in but I think the generation after mine is making change to this whole idea.

    Alittle random, but my parents are Mexican immigrants, and they also expect us (the kids) to stay at home till we're like 36 or something and then take care of them when they're older. They also find the way that Americans treat their pets a little over the top. BTW I used to pronounce Nike like the word "like" until I realized everyone pronounced it NIKE-EE.

      Sienna dude I forgot about this comment 😂 but aye relatable. Also somewhat pertaining to this I saw a tik tok about how Americans feel bad about the animals shelters cuz they’re in cages but don’t feel bad about the people in cages at the border. Anyway don’t wanna get political but this reminded me of that lol

    We Mericans should do a better job of taking care of our seniors. The tipping thing though, I will not give a tip for bad service. Why would I reward someone who gave me bad service??? I'm not too picky either. Keep my drink re-filled and I'm usually happy. Speaking of drinks, I went to a restaurant in Bali, Indonesia about 10 years ago. They advertised "bottomless drinks" which meant free refills. So, after serving me 4 little 7 oz bottles of Coca-Cola, they cut me off. Guess 28 oz was the bottom of the bottomless drink pit

    • @josephdykes1820
      @josephdykes1820 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You do realize how foolish it is to reward poor service with a good tip, right? It absolutely is my place to decide how much of a tip they get from me, for providing service to me. That in no way is punishment.

    • @oblati
      @oblati 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tipping in America only exists in its current form so that business owners can pay their employees less. That way, people feel guilty about not tipping because they might get paid less than 3 dollars an hour and might count on the tips.

    • @caulkins69
      @caulkins69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ethan X, you have it backwards. Servers' wages are less because they make money through tips. If tipping were eliminated and wages were increased, this would be reflected in higher food prices. Either way, the customer pays for service.

    • @oblati

      caulkins69 Maybe price tags would look a little bigger, but having a dishonnest price tag is worse. Tipping, at least in America, historically started as a way to underpay black employees. Just because of that, we should not make exceptions to the minimum wage. But on top of that, it's just plain backwards to pay for your meal and your waiter seperately. It seems like business owners should just pay their employees a reasonable wage, even if they have to move the price up a bit.

    The minimum/average wage for servers/waiters in America is only $2.13 an hour. This is why 15-20% is expected because they are working for slave wages without the tips. It's wrong, but it's how it is.

    Why don't Americans just pay their wait staff proper wages? By not doing this, all it means is that the restaurant gets to keep a greater share of the profit. Besides, it's not tipping if it's enforced. The whole idea of tipping originally meant a little extra for staff who you felt deserved it. What happens in America should be called "compulsory staff wages payment"

    • @welllll...ok...
      @welllll...ok... 7 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      Lisa Pisa I'm American and agree. Essentially, restaurants are making us pay the wages servers should be getting, on top of the money we are already paying for the food, so that the restaurants can keep more of the profits - greed. Everyone I know who works at a restaurant or bar makes WAY more money from tips than their actual wage.

    Tipping. At one time it was the little extra that one paid "To Insure Prompt Service" . That never made any sense to me, because its paid AFTER the service, so that logic passes me up completely. What has happened over the last 75 or 80 years is that the restaurant business has used this opportunity to completely eliminate the cost of labor from their menu, this to fool the customer into thinking that their meal actually costs about %20 less than it actually does. What they have done is taken money from your servers pocket and handed it to you the customer. Not "tipping" that %20 is basically mooching off of someone who is paid $2.13 per hour. If you don't have the money to tip in this country, when you eat in an establishment with table service, you are taking bread off of their table.

    Also tipping here is like in Australia, you do tip a bit however you feel comfortable with, often times making it a straight sum, e.g. if it's 12.30€ and you'll actually pay 12.50/13.00€. I think a general rule of thumb can be 10% is ok, but I've heard about how in the US waiting staff expects you to tip more, because they basically live off of the tips like you said.

      @sarahschouveller1993 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sah. Benally I guess that's the gist of it, but in my view sin and evil aren't necessarily synonyms. In some religions Gluttony (or eating too much) is a sin but I'd argue that, if it is a sin, it's not a sin based on evil. Also people can have evil thoughts and feelings toward others without committing sinful actions. So not exactly the same in my book, but yes I agree with you that animals are less flawed beings than humans.

    In the USA servers get paid as low as $2.50-$4.50 per hour by the place of employment. Servers and bartenders live off their tips. I heard that in Japan servers are paid way more on their hourly/paychecks and it can actually make a server feel uncomfortable to be tipped. It suggests that the server was being analysed and criticised if the customer leaves a tip and doesn't just pay whatever the bill says. Also I found out, while working in a Japanese place here in the US, that in Japan it is normal for the table to wave and even vocally call their server to the table when ready to order. Where as here in the US that's considered .....a little offensive. However a Japanese customer explained to me, in Japan it would be rude to expect your server to have to constantly keep checking in and come to the table throughout the night, to try and guess when someone wants or needs something. It's pretty cool to see the differences in cultures and the best thing to do is talk and try to learn as much as you can about different countries and customs. This way offense isn't taken and actions aren't misunderstood.

    Tipping in america happened during proibition, liquer was restricted and restaurant sells fell, so restaurants encourage tipping to pay their servers a fair wage, however after prohibition ended the restaurants still kept the same system, short handing their employees, and adding a burden to the customer, it is not the customers job to make sure the employee gets his/her rightful pay, but the buissiness.

    i dont eat out that often, but when i do i consider it a treat to myself. working in the security field in nightclubs, bars and restaurants i would see just how hard the waitresses work. sometimes on their breaks some of these women break down into tears because they get treated so poorly by patrons, staff and even bosses and owners. so when i go out to eat i make sure i smile at them, notice them and thank them for refilling my coffee or water glass and leave a very generous tip. like well over the 18% recommended tip in South Cali. if i am a regular a little more. if know them personally then i'll leave as much as $20.00. one thing for sure is word spreads among the wait staff on who the good tippers are and who the bad ones are and guess who gets rhe best, fastest and friendliest service the next time around. so be nice to them when you go out to eat. many of these women are struggling financially and have families to support and bills to pay just like you do.

      But they do? Im not saying they shouldn't, in a lot of eastern cultures dog meat is eaten, its apparently very rich and tasty. I couldn't do it because ive been brought up in a culture where dogs are companion animals and not food. However the treatment of dogs in some countries and meat markets before they are slaughtered is horrific, they hang them and beat them because the adrenaline makes the meat more tender and tasty.

    I've seen this on a lot of videos like this where people complain about tipping, but it's honestly not that complicated. Depending on where you go you may have to tip, it really just depends on the restaurant. If it's extremely fancy, and high class; gratuity may be 15-20 %. But if it's maybe a moderate location they may have the option of tipping.These place will put the different options or suggestions they have for tipping on the menu. These are suggestions so you could really choose any amount you want, based on the service. For most small scale restaurants though, you generally tip based on how well the service is.

    You tip if they deserve a tip. I have seen servers post receipts with comments and whine about not getting tips. First of all, I believe in hard work, and if a restaurant isnt busy (half empty) and you take 50 min to refill my water, then that is on you. The food I can understand it being late. But the water is within your control. I have had servers walk past me to wait on a larger table of 5-6 people. I understand they want a bigger tip with a bigger table. But I get ignored and in the end I get bad service so guess what? You get no tip.

      The most important reason behind tipping in the US is that waiters and waitresses are badly underpaid by their employees.
      I once said to my American friend who was about to tip a waitress in Finland "You are not obligated to do that. They get paid fairly over here and don't have to worry about their healthcare costs."

    • @moniqueeebite
      @moniqueeebite 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You know why they do that? It's because the large table has massive amounts of order so they're trying to tend to them first.
      It's hard when it's busy to cater to everyone. We are not robots. We are human beings that can make errors. We can't be in two places at one unfortunately.
      Just try to imagine helping out 30-40+ people at once. We know everyone needs to get served but we have to prioritize who was there first and what is the most pressing. It's never intentional to you. We are trying to be as efficient as possible. Also when it's busy of course quick service can be jeopardized. If you want quick service go to a fast food restaurant.
      Also if you can't afford to tip, don't eat out.

      usually the dogs were in such bad condition that they couldn't be brushed out. The mats on their coats were so bad that the fur
      would have to be shaved off. When the fur isn't properly cared for it also leads to open sores on the dogs skin. One person had taped their dogs mouth shut during the day to keep it from barking so the fur around its mouth had been ripped off by the owner when it removed the tape.

    1/2. A lot of the School and University environment comes from American competition. Americans tend to be competitive whether it's in sports, sororities, homecoming elections, and so forth. This answers both the first and second question
    3. Portion sizes tend to come from two things 1. America often subsidizes research into cheap and affordable substitutes for organic food. 2. America also as a large nation is self-sustaining in food production. This means that there is little cost to the production and consumption of food. Hence groceries and food tend to be cheaper in the US especially overly processed foods. Competition driving prices down ends up seeing businesses rely on giving the consumer more bang for their buck in order to win against their competitors. This increases the portions as things get cheaper, and in order to undercut their competitor's restaurants and products offer more for less.
    4. Tipping in the States is done so that restaurants can ensure quality in their service. Service in the US requires that a server works for their tip as it is their main source of revenue. In countries that rely heavily on hourly wages what economic research has shown is that Service overall has taken a major dive in comparison to the US.
    5. Why the bathrooms have wide peepholes is beyond me I find that kinda weird too as an American.
    6. Yes, the pets thing is more of a Western thing.
    7. The whole parents' thing I find is more of a cultural Western thing in which Western Societies tend to be really individualistic and Asians as a social culture tend to be more collective.
    8. Much of American Slang comes actually from Western England, the Irish, Scotts, and Germanic peoples. Famous Black economist Thomas Sowell's book "Black Rednecks White Liberals" does a good in-depth dive into how slang and modern American Urban Ebonics came to be.

So realize that instead, people, when people like this commenter are pretending they don't make anything at jobs like that since minimum wage is low. That's WHY it's so low- since those workers are already making more than most other jobs, without any wage.

      R Quincy how much do people usually tip in US?

    • @rquincy4113
      @rquincy4113 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It varies. Generally, you go by percentage of the bill. 10% is basically the absolute minimum you should ever tip. 15% seems average, and 20% of your bill (or more) is quite polite, or for great service. But, then, there are some people who 'tip' by leaving religious pamphlets and fake money (literally), so tipping varies. So, basically, if you spend 15$ on your dinner, expect to add, generally, about another 3$ to your bill. You don't have to leave cash anymore most places, as you can do it at the register when you pay. HOWEVER, some places will gather all tips paid that way and distribute them amongst the waiters, or literally STEAL the tips for the managers, rather than giving them to the employee it belongs to. To avoid this, carrying cash for a night out is always a good idea. That way, when you leave it on the table, the waiter will likely get to it first.

      America is one of the few countries that still does tipping, it's a shitty system where restaurant owners pass the burden of paying their employees to the customer. It's a tired practice that needs to end in America, employers need to start paying adequate wages for their workers

    Tipping is very important for the livelihood of those who serve us. In nearly ALL jobs where tipping is included on the bill, the employees are paid either bare minimum wage, and in some cases LESS than minimum wage. For those who can't understand all the fuss around tipping in the U.S.:
    You might want to familiarize yourself with the meaning of 'implied social contract' before going abroad.
    Every country has its norms; when you don't abide by those norms while residing in that country, you have breached the implied social contract which grounds your expectation of fair treatment in that country. Do so at your own risk.
    Tipping is a norm in the U.S.
    Deal with it while you're here, or accept that you're properly playing the role of a cheap tourist and giving your home country a bad name when you do so.

    • @CreatorForLife
      @CreatorForLife 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Come on, the only reason you are going so hard on non tippers is because you're mad that your actual wage is so low. Fix this tipping culture by fixing your minimum wage problems.
      People around the world already think your tipping culture is stupid, so yeah you can be mad at basically everyone for not liking your bad system, you are literally the only people in the world defending it to death.
      You are defending a system and culture that is doing nothing but holding you down, just think what would happen if you fixed minimum wages and made a redefinition of what tipping actually is "to give someone who has provided you with a service an extra amount of money to thank them".
      This is always heavily debated, but you Americans are the only one defending it the way that it should be mandatory.

    • @joelk6611
      @joelk6611 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You've missed my point. Whether you (or I) believe that tipping should be a norm is irrelevant. The fact is that it is a norm in the U.S., and that is not going to change any time soon. Abide by it while you're here, or accept that in breaking it you are being rude and deserve to be treated as such.
      Tipping is a particularly important norm in the U.S. in that many people depend for their livelihoods upon others abiding by it. When you choose not to tip because you think it is a stupid norm, you are depriving your server of the income he or she rightfully expects in return for the services he or she has provided to you. In short, you're stealing from your server.
      If you want to protest what you think is a stupid norm or an unfair system, then don't patronize restaurants which incorporate that norm. But whatever you do, don't fool yourself by thinking that what you've done is excusable because you don't believe in tipping culture.
      There are plenty of norms in other countries that I might think are silly, but I wouldn't be so arrogant as to think it is perfectly fine for me to ignore those norms when I'm abroad simply because I think they are pointless.

    • @CreatorForLife
      @CreatorForLife 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks colorado Norms are not meant to be followed. "Abide by it while you're here, or accept that in breaking it you are being rude and deserve to be treated as such" mainly you get the bill once you're done eating, if not well you could always get the manager if you get treated rudely by the personnel, just cause you don't tip doesn't mean you get the rights to be harassed in any way. Sorry.
      The services a server is giving me should be expected to be covered by their salary, i am depriving the server of nothing since that person chooses to work at x place, it is not up to me to meet up to what the server expects when i am the one paying anyway in the end. I am robbing the server of nothing, if the server wants more money and is unhappy with anything, get another job or try getting a raise so you don't depend on pseudo tipping.
      Or fix the real problem which is minimum wage.
      I don't patronize restaurant's who incorporate this, it is an incredible good business for them. And i wouldn't say that not tipping is excusable, since i am just following your system, flawed as it is. Don't want me to behave this way, then change your system, it will only benefit everyone.
      I don't know what you mean by your last bit, since you didn't write any examples, but most norms you encounter as a tourist does not have anything to do with money, meaning i will gladly abide them, since it doesn't cost anything, and it shows nothing but respect, and don't pull the "it will be respectful top tip because they don't ear much" because i am respecting the system by following it.
      Again, there is a difference between respecting norms that are true and genuine, but respecting pseudo norms, basically implemented a long time ago by the employers, and where you are left with paying extra because "that's how we do it in this country" and the employers then make a fat buck, i can not respect in any way.

    • @joelk6611
      @joelk6611 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm not sure what you think a norm is, but I'll try to help you out. The OED definition of 'norm' as in 'social norms' is "A standard or pattern, especially of social behavior, that is typical or expected of a group". Basically, a social norm is a standard of social behavior that is expected of people in a given society.
      When you play the role of a participant in a society, you are expected to follow the norms of that society. When you breach a norm you are acting at odds with the expectations others hold for you; which is to say, you are being rude. A tourist is, among other things, someone who chooses to temporarily participate in a foreign society. So a rude tourist is someone who fails to abide by the norms of the society he or she is visiting.
      If you choose not to tip your server when visiting the U.S., you are a rude tourist. That's your choice. By choosing not to tip you are intentionally making your server's job more frustrating and difficult, as well as demonstrating just how petty and arrogant you are as an individual. Again, your choice. You're apparently proud of doing this and think others should as well, given your willingness to defend cheating servers in a public forum. That's sad, but I don't expect to dissuade you from thinking this way through an exchange on TH-cam. Frankly, I couldn't care less. There will always be people who are smug about their selfish behavior without even realizing just how selfish it is.
      I only made my original post in the hope that someone out there might see that the crux of the issue when it comes to tipping in the U.S. is not a matter of your personal acceptance or understanding of the norm, but rather a matter of understanding that proper participation in a society entails abiding by all of the norms of that society, and not simply those with which you agree.

    • @CreatorForLife
      @CreatorForLife 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you suspected to follow norms? yes, but it isn't mandatory.
      Also let me quote this about norms: "Norms are cultural products (including values, customs, and traditions)[1] which represent individuals' basic knowledge of what others do and think that they should do"
      You think i should tip, but it has never been my part of my values, customs or traditions).
      Am i rude? perhaps. Would i as a tourist fail to follow some norms? well yes i would, but i am an outsider, who can't be expected to know every norm.
      Now on the petty thing, come on now. Servers are already getting paid, and i am not made out of money in any way. And proud? nah, if i had money i would gladly give a bit extra since waiters make shit wage. But i am not rich in any way, i too have shit income.
      Also don't make this about cheating on servers, since the rules, which are your rules btw. and your norms, are as they are, i did not make them, and i do not have to give tip.
      The true and pure form/definition whatever you want to call it, is giving because you really liked the service, because something touched you deeply enough so that you want to give a bit extra.
      Instead "american tipping" has become, as you keep on emphasizing, a mandatory guilt tip, where if you don't tip even though you don't have a lot of money yourself YOU are the bad guy.
      I'll end this as it isn't going anywhere by saying fix your minimum wages which is the real problem, and stop shoving the beliefs of tipping as a mandatory norm down people's throats.

    With the whole tip thing when you have a certain amount they will tell you on the receipt how much your supposed to tip. Do you have to do it? It depends on how your service was and if you have enough money on you. Nobody ran behind me telling me anything about tipping. I tip pretty good and sometimes over if it was good, even if I don't have that much money left I will still tip some but trust me you will know I didn't like the service when you get no tip lol. You don't have to tip every time that's on you, but it would be nice and it could help some people out if you did.

    we do treat our pets like family but i mean its called adopting a pet but...Eating off them? ew who does that. I'll break a piece off and give it to the dog like the crust of a pb sandwich but I would never let him take a bite then me take a bite gross I don't even do that with blood relatives and u don't kiss blood relatives on the lips so why do it to a dog. I'd only kiss my husband/boyfriend on the lips and maybe drink off him but that's a stretch

      Why is this so unheard of? I'm an american who shares ice cream and lets my dog lick a tootsiepop. Also I kiss my family on the mouth as in my mom and dad not like cousins or anything like that.

    The phonetics for Nike (as far as I know) is 'naiki, because it is named after the Greek goddess of Victory. And here in ZAR we do not have gaps in the restroom doors, had such a laugh with you guys on that one!

    Companies here say you can return things, but they are counting on you not returning them. I have told companies I wanted to return things and they but got a hard time from them. You have to fill out a paper and they tell you everything must be returned in the same box and same condition

    If I get poor or rude service I will not tip. I've noticed a trend with people from other countries mentioning servers following them or not accepting payment if the tip is not enough for them... even after bad service. I've given small tips and no tip at to express my displeasure for a bad attitude from a server. I have never once had a server question me about not leaving them a tip, but then I'm a guy and may not look that approachable. Plus if I'm offended I probably give the impression not to expect a tip from me on my way out. But otherwise I'm a very consistent 25% tipper. If you visit America and you get lousy service let them know thats why you are not tipping. If they try to guilt you, get their manager. Don't be afraid to make a scene and stand up for yourself in public.

      10-15% if great service than up to 20%. I will give no tip if service sucks. Counter service should not take tips.

      If only your job paid you $2 an hour and you relied on tips. Had a bad day? Well it just got worse because you are making no money and wasting your time working. I tip 10% for bad service and 20% for mediocre/good service. People don't understand that it's not your liberty to tip or not in the US.
      Attitude or not, you pay for the labor they put in. Unless they are refusing to do their job, you are always supposed to tip. Please remember that in many restaurants that have a bartender, a cook, an active manager/supervisor that the waitress is required to SPLIT HIS OR HER TIP with them. This is not only a downside for the waiter, but a downside for everyone else involved if you don't tip.
      Let's not forget that waiters/waitresses have to pay taxes on tips. U.S. government (because it's fucking garbage) assumes that you pay ~8% in tips and takes a percentage of that 8% away from the waiter. Which means if you didn't leave a tip that's money out of their pocket. Bad service or not, if they did their core job (taking your order, bringing you food, and refilling your drinks, with or without an attitude) and you don't tip, you're an asshole.
      Thankfully I don't work in this industry, so I don't have to deal with entitled assholes all day.

      That's the problem with america's tipping culture. Your salary should be enough to live, instead of depending on tips. Your problem not mine, since it basically comes down to if you want to tip or not.
      It's just an excuse for the employer to keep people's salary very very low, since they can just go "hey, you get tips, i don't have to pay you more then, right?"
      It's a scam and still people are mistaking true tipping which should be optional, for mandatory, when the real problem is your minimum wage and agreement.
