I agree that the #9 is probably the better user but I give kudos to Millers Falls for making the 709. Their industrial design was superior to Stanley in every way.
Mostly, I agree. It is a bit more difficult to adjust the mouth opening on the 709 compared to Baily style planes. It's too bad their nice design didn't give them more of a commercial boost; it was just too late, I think.

I would have past that right up at the flea due to it looking like 80s garbage!
