      A picture of arrogance. Below average quality cars and above average prices, but hey it's got a Mercedes badge so it's obviously good...NOT! Things aren't much different today from what I've heard.

    Definitely my most favourite JD Power Survey episode yet. Love seeing both the customer and the car industry representative fighting against each other.

  • @MemphiStig

    unfortunately for the consumers, manufacturers seem to think mediocrity is an acceptable standard of "quality." the spokesmen are all about being deflective, and saying things like "that was a couple of years ago" and "there's always room for improvement" is neither helpful nor forgiveable. worst of all was that wanker from Mercedes, self-important jackass that he was. nothing like having to face your customers to show people what you're really made of. good show from the old school.

      If they tried that today.... There would be more whining from butthurt Snowflakes about insignificant items and the fact that ALL Cars aren't Electric yet....
      And the Manufacturer Reps all standing next to their Lawyers, ducking EVERY concern!

    • @BillFrancis78
      @BillFrancis78 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It was more about Clarkson and the other two`s antics, good entertainment but as has been mentioned, not relevant to the real world of everyday car ownership, the relevance kept to supercars we may aspire to own but in our dreams only.
      if it had been made of an equal balance of entertainment and relevant info it would have been much more of a class winner and programs like 5th gear would have been uneccessary.
      Any mention of a normal car and Clarkson might as well have vomited on it.

    • @rimmersbryggeri
      @rimmersbryggeri 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BillFrancis78 Not true. This version of topgear got cancelled because it was no longer relevant to the public. In saying that I liked this format also but it is actually very little more relevant than the next format since all the info provided in the tests were totally biased an inobjective. For example they gave the "new mini" great marks even though a more miserable shitbox is hard to find.

    It's interesting to note that nearly 20 years on, the brand rankings seen here have actually changed very little!
    Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Skoda and Jaguar still regularly finishing at the top. Mercedes, VW and Ford still consistently mediocre, and French and Italian makes still bringing up the rear, with few exceptions. That Mercedes rep made me LOL! - arrogance personified!
    The only major change is the Korean brands have moved up the ranks significantly since then. Little movement elsewhere though.

      I can't agree. My grandfather bought one new in 1999, V6 Connoisseur. He ran it for years, when he was done ot gradually got passes around the family. By the end it had around 300k on the clock, the only issues were the massive cost of the belt replacements and the injector which were done at 130k. One of the most reliable cars I've ever encountered! I can't speak for the later cars but the early ones were exceptionally well built.

    JD Power surveys should be taken with a pinch of salt. The reason ? Lets look at Skoda, how can a car that is a VW be better than its donor ? Answer is that it isnt, however due the the brands dour image, owners talk it up, and dealers make more of an effort as they have to, which explains the higher rating, its simple really. Personally I look at warranties direct for more accurate reliability info. I suggest you do too.

    • @frazzleface753
      @frazzleface753 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, most people haven't got a bloody clue about cars and this reflects through the surveys. Often unrealistic expectations and/or not knowing how to use the cars features properly, account for at least some of the so-called 'maladies'. I do think however that Skoda has a degree of autonomy and it reflects through their offerings. People may just be overjoyed at getting a VW at a cheaper price, too.
