This kind of culture appropriation really bother me, especially Cambodian started to copy and claim Vietnamese world famous Banh Mi, Phin dripping coffee, springroll, etc. Dont Cambodian have any creativity instead of making claim about everything. As thai, I did some research about the history of thai traditional costumes and garments as a project back in art school. Thai upper classes, especially in the reign of King Rama 5, started adopting the european fashions. For example, ราชปแตน is the thai version of a toned-down late 19th century men suits. For women, it was puffy laces sleeves blouses called เสื้อแขนหมูแฮม inspired by the 1890s victorian women puffed sleeves shirts. Then thai version of the Great Gatsby style flappers in the King Rama 7 reign, and so on. Before the reign of King Rama 5, the outfits can be similar to other countries, can't argue with that. But after that, there are strong thai silhouette and cutting in all those outfits and also heavily inspired by particular fashion from the other part of the earth. I giggle too hard every time seeing them claiming the outfits of those eras. It's too unique to the extent that their false claims even make them look worse than it already does. I maybe too blunt, but if their people wasn't so busy killing their own people back then, they won't be this sad. The consequences of that action effected them so bad, and I feel sorry for them.

Im a Vietnamese and I agree with this. Khmer Krom people in Vietnam used to wear different clothing but now somehow they started to wear Thai traditional clothes which is kinda bother me what even worse, I have been to Cambodian restaurant and I notice that they are basically cloned and copied all Thai & Vietnamese cuisine by changing the name of the dish and call them "Cambodian cuisine". This kind of culture appropriation really bother me, especially Cambodian started to copy and claim Vietnamese world famous Banh Mi, Phin dripping coffee, springroll, etc. Dont Cambodian have any creativity instead of making claim about everything. Even though our roots are close to Khmer as the reason above but Thai we never stop developing in contrast we have been developing all the time. Cambodia should develop their style themselves. We can't accept their claim because it's easy to claim but don't develop or invest anything much. Thai we promoted our culture and tradition for a long time. As thai, I did some research about the history of thai traditional costumes and garments as a project back in art school. Thai upper classes, especially in the reign of King Rama 5, started adopting the european fashions. For example, ราชปแตน is the thai version of a toned-down late 19th century men suits. For women, it was puffy laces sleeves blouses called เสื้อแขนหมูแฮม inspired by the 1890s victorian women puffed sleeves shirts. Then thai version of the Great Gatsby style flappers in the King Rama 7 reign, and so on. Before the reign of King Rama 5, the outfits can be similar to other countries, can't argue with that. But after that, there are strong thai silhouette and cutting in all those outfits and also heavily inspired by particular fashion from the other part of the earth. I giggle too hard every time seeing them claiming the outfits of those eras. It's too unique to the extent that their false claims even make them look worse than it already does.
I maybe too blunt, but if their people wasn't so busy killing their own people back then, they won't be this sad. The consequences of that action effected them so bad, and I feel sorry for them.

Thai people usually dont have problems with Cambodian people but the more you try to claim Thai stuff, the worse it is to Cambodia as to other people eyes, Cambodia is just enoying Thai soft powers. Khmer empire was great but that empire ended many hundreds years ago. Move on.
They always claim Thai culture & land. They think theirs country are the best country in the world.During the Khmer Rouge war in their country. They fled to Thailand for help. Thailand helps them. But after the end of their war they thank you UN and told Thailand not to help them. This is real khmer habit
You can help the nation by watching video clips on this English channel for only 4 - 5 minutes.
The longer it takes to watch the clip. The more it pushes the channel to be known faster. Because youtube will see that this channel presents good clips.

In fact .... Cambodia was a Thailand colony for long time.....very common for Cambodia to absorbed many of thai culture ..... including architecture + treditional dress + food + treditional dance + treditional music.
Very less different between both cultures. ....By the way ...in these 10years thai cultures become more and more influential over Cambodia society. .... Until Cambodian can't considered which thai cultures they learned from Thailand since 200-500 years ago ....which one they just copied from Thailand in these late 10 years.
More over .....at recently the problems are Cambodia trying to claim many if thai cultures .....and keep saying Cambodia cultures are original ....and Thailand copying them.

Khmer accept thai culture and was rule by siam since Ayuthaya till. Ratanakosin. After they was rule by frence there nothing change to frence dressing culture.During King Rama 5 to 9 have been develope thai dressing as thai have designer ,local cloth and royal cloth maker.
