However I live rural, where all decent builders are booked 1+ yrs out- so struggle, learn, create, & build all by me myself and I.

    I think Tommy got lucky. I've hung old doors, as well as new, for over 45 years, and old doors are seldom square. If you don't square them up before you set the jamb, the door likely will not fit well; It will be an out-of-square door in a square frame. The top may run out, the bottom may not be parallel with the floor or the leading edge with the lock-side jamb. By the same token, if you set the jamb flush with surface of the wall, and hang a warped door . . . well, do the math.

    • @hijackn2890

    • @johnton5656
      @johnton5656 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hi Mr. Silva, I've learned a lot by watching your show. Thank you. One thing bothers me, though. I noticed all the Carpenters use shims to fit the gaps. Maybe you could put a word into Home Depot to make thin strips of wood about 6', and various thin measurements that could be tacked to the gap.? Just an idea....😊

    • @mattsnyder4754
      @mattsnyder4754 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the floor isn’t level, you either have a gap on the bottom, or at the top. You can’t have something flush to a non-level surface and also have it swing across it.

    Fitting doors is VERY different. I’ve fitted loads and each one is different
    The difference between a well fitted door and something that looks wrong and doesn’t work well is tiny.
