    Could you suggest a hotel,we are taking a cruise ij July2024 . We are in our 70s

      Inn at the Market and the Grand Hyatt are 2 of my favorites. The Edgewater on the water front is a great spot and would be easy access to the cruise lines.

    Also, I think it’s a little unfair to say “stay away from Belltown” idk what it looked like before and I imagine it was pretty nice but I walk this same walk down 2nd almost every single day, sometimes in the afternoon sometimes after sunset but never later than like 10 so far. I can tell you that the block around Bell street is pretty much the only shady area on 2nd. There might be some other parts that have graffiti and don’t look as nice but the shady people stay mostly there around Bell and there’s gonna be some shadies around the whole downtown but I don’t think that means people should stay away. I’ve found that most of those people mind their own business and in the couple months I’ve been here I’ve taken countless walks, at least one a day, and I can tell you I’ve never felt unsafe even around the homeless and I’ve never seen any violence myself not to say it doesn’t happen but I haven’t heard about anything since we moved here. I’ve only been asked for money once also. In Austin the homeless will accost you trying to get spare change or whatever they can but here in Belltown it really isn’t like that. Don’t be flashy and mind your own business and they’ll leave u alone.

      Fair enough, more like stay away from parts of 3rd and 2nd I guess. Honestly I just choose a route and go with the flow. I am a but disappointed to see belltowns current condition but it wasn’t nearly as bad as parts of downtown. From a visiting perspective, is more of what I was getting at. Just better and safer places to see in Seattle that are also more interesting to me.

      I personally have not been a victim but have known enough people and seen/helped enough people that have been. It’s a tough issue but when you allow open drug use like Seattle has become, you can’t count on people to act rationally while the paranoia is talking hold. Just need to be mindful and if you’re not used to seeing this, it can be quite shocking.

      @@pnwpaths2925 all very very true. We have nothing like this in San Antonio or probably 99% of places in Texas because they don’t tolerate open drug use of any kind marijuana and alcohol included and they especially don’t allow public camping. The closest u can come to public camping in San Antonio is under the I37 overpass downtown and it’s so dark under there that it’s almost like out of sight out of mind. We would never tolerate people camping on any streets downtown or anywhere else. Man I could go on for hours but this place is pretty disturbing to the eye. I don’t feel unsafe but I’m a strapping young man of 38, I wouldn’t want my mother or my girlfriend even walking by 3rd and Bell alone. I feel ya

    What about staying at the Belltown Inn?

    • @pnwpaths2925
      @pnwpaths2925  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you would most likely have a very lively view. Bell on 2nd and 3rd is Belltown’s higher trafficked issues of drug use and crime from what I have seen walking around. For the most part, you don’t hear too many tourists talking about being attacked but are usually surprised by the homelessness and open drug use that you will see in pockets of different neighborhoods and downtown Seattle. Probably see some aggressive pan handling directed at you but that’s usually about it. Thanks for checking out the video!

      That’s right by Bell and the Park that I definitely saw some issues around. During the day time I wouldn’t be too worried but at night that would be more of a concern. Going a little more North, will be nicer.

      I would not stay in that hotel. I live in Belltown and it’s not a horrible area, I feel safe walking around the neighborhood at almost any time but I am a man(sorry to be like that but I feel like scum prey on women way more than men, cause they’re scum) and with that said I just saw the hotel pics on Apple Maps and they do a good job of making the area look nice but it’s nowhere near that nice. There’s a picture that looks down on a little fenced in park and it never looks like that in real life. There’s a little plaza kinda area right there at 3rd and bell and if I’m not mistaken there’s a bus stop also right there by the hotel and both areas draw small crowds of unsavory characters. I wouldn’t want to stay there and I especially wouldn’t want an older person like my mother who’s 60ish to stay there. No way. It’s just to even go into the hotel you’d have to pass these people and for the most part they are harmless but u will occasionally be asked for money or if you’re younger possibly offered drugs. It looks like a lovely hotel but unfortunately at no fault of the hotel owners it’s an a pretty sketchy area. Sorry for the long response.

      A little closer to the space needle there’s a few hotels although I’m sure they’re more expensive. There might be some weirdos there too but they don’t congregate around there like they do on Bell st. between 2nd and 3rd

    As someone who used to visit Seattle twice a year from Vancouver, this video is both informative and depressing. Frequently stayed at the Moore Hotel next to the theater (great staff there) and walked around that area often. While it got progressively seedier each visit I never felt totally unsafe until my last visit three years ago, before the dark times, before the Covid. Also, have seen numerous movies at the Cinerama, by far my favorite theater anywhere. Last time there was for Avengers: Endgame on their giant screen and amazing sound system. So sad to see it boarded up so to speak and sincerely hope it re-opens again soon. Also sad to see so many businesses here and downtown as in your other videos boarded up and covered in hideous graffiti. Will probably visit Seattle again in September and really hope things have improved by then. Keep up the great work, your walking tours are truly the next best thing to being there, as well as a lot safer and cheaper.

      Sadly I was downtown tonight. I thought of making another one about what’s going but just didn’t have the energy or will for it today. Did get a video of the market and a couple drives around the city. I hope they start taking the issues seriously but I just don’t think they have any interest in really making it better. Luckily there are lots of good areas still. Just gotta be aware of trouble spots. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for this video 👍 I’m thinking about moving up to Seattle from Portland sometime this year. I have two dogs and no car, so I’m wanting to move somewhere that’s walkable and is near a park. I was thinking of the Belltown area since the Sculpture Park is nearby. But is there any other areas you’d recommend?

      Well good timing! Have video up today that will talk a little bit about some alternatives. Driving video of What downtown looks like at night. Honestly our transit isn’t as good as Portlands but there is decent enough access from the North of Seattle all the way up to Lynnwood. We also have the light rail coming soon to Bellevue and Redmond. Redmond is my favorite city in Washington. It’s also home to the best dog park around at Marymoor Park. It’s rapidly growing with a still small town vibe but with good restaurants, a few decent dive bars and Mac & Jacks brewery which is a favorite of mine. Along with my fav coffee shop victors. Most of my content is based around the PNW and exploring. Let me know if there’s anything else you’re curious about!

      I was just in Belltown a couple weeks ago. Looked pretty decent other than 2nd and 3rd around Bell. That’s going towards the water I think? The city is looking decent in the touristy areas other than 3rd in downtown and pioneer square. Still lots of open drug use and pan handling but it’s consistently on 3rd or off the side streets of 3rd mostly.

    Thanks for sharing this video! I'm moving to Seattle for a few months for work (first time visiting) and have been watching your content to get a sense of what it looks like living there. I was wondering if you could elaborate a bit more on Belltown. You mention avoiding 2nd and 3rd street, and I also think you mentioned Pike/Pine in a different video. What streets would be safer for walking? I'm actually staying pretty close to the area around Cinerama. Also, does it get much safer the more north or west you go from downtown?

    • @pnwpaths2925
      @pnwpaths2925  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Alex, it’s mostly 2nd and 3rd around Bell and then again as you get closer to downtown. 3rd in general starts getting bad around downtown and continues to have problem areas all the way into pioneer square. Belltown heading North into Uptown (formerly lower Queen Anne) is better off. Same as heading East from 2nd/3rd. Night time things definitely can have more issues. Nowadays, people usually head towards Fremont, Ballard, South Lake Union and Capital Hill for night life.

      @@pnwpaths2925 Thanks for the reply! If I we're walking to Capital Hill from Belltown, is it best to go a bit north and take Denny Way going Eastward, or is Olive Way okay also? I was also wondering if you had any opinion on the International District in terms of safety, and also curious about the parking situation. I've heard car break ins are fairly common in the area?

    • @pnwpaths2925

      @@alexkang5583 I wouldn’t worry heading towards Capital Hill really. China AKA international district has some crime issues and I’m not sure how much better or worse it has gotten but is known for having problems unfortunately. We are way under the amount of police we need for the city and unfortunately unless a violent crime is happening, the response can be very long if any at all.

      @@alexkang5583 Hi Alex. I agree with our host. Fremont, Ballard lower Queen Ann are more safe. Belle town no. Maybe go east just a bit to south lake Union near Amazon. After dark is just unsafe in the Belletown area up to 2nd and 3rd and Pike and Pine as well as the International District they are all a strong NO! Especially on foot. You can drive during the day to the International District maybe shop at Uyajamya and lunch nearby. but leave well before dark.

      Glad it was helpful! Edgewater is a really cool hotel! Just be mindful that we tend to see our rain pick up in October. Waterfront and Pike Place Market are a must see area. I have videos on both with some of our favorite things to do. Biggest issue in the Tourist areas of Downtown is going to be 3rd through the downtown. Just be mindful of your surroundings. Honestly, you will probably see quite a bit of drug use but the homeless and addicts are more likely to harm each other than tourists.
