That ati radeon card you have installed can use nglide or zeckensack glide wrapper without needing a real voodoo. the Dgvoodoo wrapper can also be used for glide DOS games.
I’m very interested in dgvoodoo support for DOS! I’m not aware of any DOS 3D renderers that would support e.g. a Radeon. Do you have any more details? 😎
@@jamesfmackenzie hello, for dgvoodoo glide support to work requires that dos games run under windows with a direct3d7 capable gfx card via windows dos prompt.
Too much messing around for me. I tried messing with nglide, zeckenshacks wrapper and dgvoodoo. Just didn't work that well so I just bought a voodoo 3 3000 for around 125 from amibay.
...for cheap, less than 100 dollars. That sounded terrifying. Maybe inflation has something to do with it, but I remember getting Voodoo3 2000 and Voodoo3 3000 cards for less than 5 dollars, back in 2005-2010...
Yeah, these prices have gone crazy. Unfortunately my original hardware is long gone - so I’m trying to re-buy everything. $100 is actually a very good price vs what these normally go for - especially PCI variants 😢

thats pretty much the same across the board for retro/vintage systems and hardware. was trying to find a Compaq Prolinea 3/25zs that i had a while ago but had to get rid of, people wanted $300 for one even in horrible condition, and this was around 5 years ago.
Man, lookng at those prices I'm glad I not only scored a MSI MS-6168 (that famous MSI mobo with onboard V3 2000 AGP, I lucked out double time since most are 8MB and mine is the rarest one with full 16MB SGRAM) but also scored a free (yes, free) V3 2000 16MB AGP in a unsuspecting Mendocino machine.
I have a VooDoo 5500 AGP, but I do not have a compatable mother board. I had it from new. So if I want to use voodoo graphc modes i use nGlide it works ok,
i still have my 3dfx Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card I bought from Walmart for $100 back in 99 to replace the S3 Virge DX that was in my system, i also still have the system i put it in. yeah it's overkill for a Pentium 1 200Mhz system, but the S3 card that was in it wasn't really good for much other than DOS gaming.
I recently picked up a Voodoo3 1000 16MB SGRAM for $60, did a volt mod, added a heatsink with a fan, and flashed 3000 VBIOS. The real rub is that it's faster than my real SDRAM 3000. 😂
i had this one (Btw iloved Voodoo and it was great to play it ) BUT ,.......this card i am sure have a ver bad cooling ... The card had 2 mm Cooling Paste below the heatsink . It worked for 20 Minutes ..after the PC Froze becouse the Voodoo 3 Overheated ..After Adding a new Cooling Block on the chip ..Overhead was over ....
With two video cards in the system how do you manage the output ? Rg do you have to swap the monitor cable? Ot is it always connected to the agp card and the system can take advantage of the voodoo in pci slot and render glide displaying the picture on the agp card?
You need two cables. I have a DVI cable running from the Radeon, and VGA from the Voodoo 3. I connect both to the same monitor, and use the monitor OSD to switch. 😎

I have an AGP one that looks like that. Has compaq stickers on it

i own one of all the voodoo cards except the banshee and, as a collector i want the bubble to burst. it won't last forever.
It feels unsustainable, but I never see the prices go down yet 😂

Nice score, James. Cool video, great work getting it working.

Very cool. Would have been nice to see your reflashing process tho :)
Thanks! The reflash process was a real pain - I had to add a second PCI graphics card to even boot, and then do the reflash. Glad it worked after 😂
So arcade machines have motherboards that have PCI slot?
For Golden Tee, yep! Find some photos here:

i got a Banshee with this exact same PCB. strange
I'd have thought the 3dfx markings and the seller saying "tested on wi dows 98" were pretty good indicators that it would be ok ;)
😂 very true - the signs were there if I had the sense to look! 😂
I had the voodoo, voodoo 2 and voodoo 3 and in their time they were the greatest cards.
Agree! 😎
What model of optiplex are you using? I was thinking about getting an optiplex and turning it into a retro rig for games
It’s an Optiplex 380 - Core 2 Duo tower version. You can find some more details in my last video 😎
