    I actually purchased this alongside the New Bible Commentary after comparing different one-volume commentaries on your website. It's definitely not an Evangelical commentary, but I appreciate that about it. I really love the NBC and have been amazed at how useful it's been. But this offers something different and from different perspectives so I like to refer to both. And I think it's the heaviest book I own! Appreciate the overview of it in the video.

      Thanks for the comment. With both of those books, you sure have a lot of information on biblical interpretation and scholarship! I agree - a person can get in shape using Bible reference works! Lots of calories are burned taking them on and off the shelf. :)

      Brother daniel, what are the best thoughts we can have about The New Perspective on Paul? Either with or against it.
      Regarding the three proponents : E.P. Sanders , N.T. Wright , James D.G. Dunn .. is the new Perspective on paul found in any of their commentaries? Or is there any sort of debate books about it? If someone is interested in. Thank you,

      Great question. I received a request about explaining the New Perspective on Paul recently, so I've been planning a video on it. I'm not quite sure when the video will be published, but probably within the next month.

    As soon as you said it uses the NRSV I knew it was not going to be a proper evangelical commentary. It seems weird that it mixes conservative and liberal authors. I'd like to see an evangelical commentary that also covers the Apocrypha/Deuterocanon.

    • @BestBibleCommentaries
      @BestBibleCommentaries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The publisher and editors tried to make the commentary meet the needs of a variety of readers. Some people like it for that reasons, but some people are of the opinion that in trying to helpful to everyone they weren't really helpful to anyone.

      @@BestBibleCommentaries If they actually wanted to do that, instead of having a conservative scholar cover one book and a liberal scholar cover another, they should've presented both conservative and liberal perspectives for each book.

    They broke the Erdmans commentary on the Bible into individual books on the kindle for 2.99 for each book of the Bible. I got the book of John for the Kindle, however, it's got some different ideas that I've never heard before, not too sure I like it much? I would go the the Piller commentary's first for sure.

    What do you mean exactly when you say "a lot of biblical scholarship"? I guess I've always thought of everything in a commentary as being biblical scholarship.

    • @BestBibleCommentaries
      @BestBibleCommentaries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question. I should have explained that better. I mean that the authors go beyond merely giving explanations of the text and interact with the latest research on the book of the Bible they are writing about, for example, the very latest arguments regarding authorship, textual criticism, etc -- subjects that are often more relevant to scholars than pastors.

      It basically means they cover a bunch of modern nonsense that denies biblical teachings, tradition and authority.

    It seems that they sell single volumes kindle version. So it's 1.99 for each book of the Bible (or maybe two)

      Hi Andrea, I got some clarification from Eerdmans yesterday that the $1.99 product had been described incorrectly on Amazon. They changed the title to say the $1.99 download is only for 1-2 Chronicles.

  • @ausnacht
    @ausnacht 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The kindle version only contains 1 and 2 Chronicles

      Thanks for the comment. That's interesting. I don't see that described anywhere on the Amazon page. I did, however, find a comment about someone only being able to access Proverbs. I'll reach out to Eerdmans and see if I can find out what's going on.

      @@BestBibleCommentaries thanks for all you do! Do you have any recommendations on some good commentary series with some applications for a lay leader. Am in the process of building up my Library while on a budget.

      Hi, great question. Just in case you aren't aware, I have a page on my website that compares 50 different commentary series and describes them according to difficulty level and the reader's purpose: www.bestbiblecommentaries.com/top-bible-commentaries-series/
      At the introductory and mid-level, you may want to consider the Christ-Centered Expository Commentary series, the NIV Application Commentary series, and/or the IVP New Testament Commentary series.
