My edc is the plain alox Pioneer. I have scissors on my little Classic sd. I also like the key ring, attach an Energizer push button flashlight to the knife using a screw type steel cable. Works really for edc.
Showing a new model by Victorinox, the Pioneer X is similar to the Farmer but with scissors instead of the wood saw. Features Alox scales which are thinner, stronger, and give a better grip than the standard scales, but no tweezers or toothpick.
It would be much thicker, I wanted the same in the red scales version and that's the Huntsman, but it ended up in a drawer because it's just uncomfortable to carry. I just bought two different versions - one with scissors, one with a saw - and just carry the one suited to the day's activity: hiking in the woods or traveling in urban environment.
I’d love the woodsaw on the pioneer x too... a four layer alox is still much thinner than a four layer fieldmaster or huntsman.. if fact it would be the perfect robust SAK
Got myself a Pioneer X Alox months ago. Probably won't carry it in my pocket because of fears it might get taken during security searches. But during this pandemic lockdown, the scissors alone made the purchase all worth it. And yes, the pride of ownership, and the coolness factor, were important factors behind why I got this model.
Finally, the perfect swiss army knife! For my edc kit that is... I only wish they had an option with that little wharncliffe blade instead of the can opener like they do on the electrician model.
sirhorsechoker One opens cans, the other opens bottles. I never need to open either in my day to day life. But the bottle opener is a little more useful to me, because I'll have the occasional beer the needs opening, even then you can open a beer with anything. But yeah both the can and bottle opener seem to be tools from another era. I'd love a 2 layer alox victorinox with a knife and scissors.
Super Tinker - or Climber (the same with corkscrew instead of the Phillips). Yes, they have some more tools (also a small blade) but I won't trade those for the cool look and the sturdiness of the Alox models.
I just bought this knife last week. I normally carry a Huntsman.....And I'm liking this one too. The Huntsman is really to big for pocket carry, so I got a Q-clip for it, and am carrying this in my pocket, because it has everything I use the most...
+WeAllJuggleKnives lol yeah? do they really openly acknowledge that, then proceed to be stingy as hell with the scissors everybody asks for? They just gonna shove them openers down our throat
This is pretty much the ideal multitool for me with regard to its feature set, though I'm not very keen on the silver scales. If this had black scales I'd be all over it.
Very nice... just wish they'd put the scissors on a farmer or a saw blade on this model.. Spose if you want that configuration then go for the fieldmaster or huntsman
need this to go four layers, saw and scissors..... thus the Field Master is still my EDC winner, if only the pen blade was a pruner blade.... or bring back the Harvester with scissors added, the Harvester X for $45 would buy 2 or 3.
As attractive as they are I've never been able to bring myself to buy a Victorinox with alox scales. I've found over the years that I actually use the tweezers and toothpick far more often than I initially anticipated.
+John Montgomery I think they need to man up and just find a way to put two slots in the Alox scales to hold the tweezers and toothpick, with modern technology they could find a way!
+WeAllJuggleKnives Agreed. I've changed out the scales on just about all my SWAK with silvertech versions, but they still don't look as classy as alox.
+WeAllJuggleKnives They have released Alox in the past with T&TP. I believe certain Dutch models with smooth Alox, but that was possibly 30 years or more ago.
I just got a second one. The first one I got I bought off a guy on Instagram who mods them and he made it with a pocket clip and acid washed tools and it's really very nice. It's so nice that I bought the second one, just in case. The size of the knife and scissors are nice snd big and I agree with you on the reamer (awl) being superior in this in-line configuration. The one I got from the guy (imodsak) had green alox scales. He sells them on eBay too. I'm not trying to plug him, but figure I'd save myself answering questions. I really do like this victorinox. I do kind of wish they had a Phillips, somehow.
+DamionJR4923 When I use the can opener on the alox Cadet, it's uncomfortable due to the thin body. The can opener is more comfortable to use with a Spartan or the like, with normal scales. Also, I think the Wenger design scissors, now on some Victorinox models, are better, because you never have to sharpen them or replace the spring.
+Pinki2019 I like the Wenger spring design but I don't like the mini serrated blades. The Spartan is probably more comfortable but the army p38 is way thinner than the cadet. Anyway to each his own.
Hey.. awesome video man. But I only have one concern. How will the scissors hold up after years of use? Will the spring wear out and havto to be replaced? Please let me know because I have never owned a victorinox with scissors before. Thanks and appreciate the content.
Victorinox are very high quality and their scissors are some of the best cutters. You will be happy with Victorinox, if you did wear it out, you would buy another one right away, just like good boots.
can you show this next to a cadet alox? would love a cadet with scissors the size of the cadet is what I love fits in the watch pocket of jeans anything bigger wont
+R Dixon You just have to choose jeans with big watch pockets. :) Most of the time I carry a Pioneer / Soldier, a space pen and a AAA flashlight in my watch pocket.
Thanks for a great review! :) I'd like an alox Vic because of the added strenght of the alox scales when compared with the cellidor ones. I'd prefer the Farmer but as I spend much time in a city where I use the scissors (much) more than the woodsaw and because I have a Vic Forester for when I'm in the woods I believe the Pioneer X would be the ideal knife for me, what do you think? :)
+Arctic Gator It would be cool if they combine these, a 4 layer with both saw and scissors, and add a metal file too, and maybe an Alox SwissChamp while they're at it LOL
I have a little knife that is exactly like a swiss army knife except that its all stainless steel and has my first name engraved on it that my aunt got, has pretty much everything i need, although i do wish the swiss army knives had better blade styles, although for edc type stuff they do just fine.
I wish they would take their biggest aluminum handle and add a saw....and that's it. A simple small folding saw by itself would always be in my pocket in the woods.
so far ive got the generic reply, someone will contact me soon...and while you wait would you like to check out more products from Victorinox....lol. Ill make vids some day. Seems a waste to keep so many knives and opinions to myself, and anyone remotely willing to listen
I would rather have scissors than a dinky little non-locking saw which would fold up on your hand. If I need a saw I would just use a safe full size saw with a locking blade.
My edc is the plain alox Pioneer. I have scissors on my little Classic sd. I also like the key ring, attach an Energizer push button flashlight to the knife using a screw type steel cable. Works really for edc.
Wish they would just do a 4 layer alox. A pioneer x with adding the woodsaw.
Wait until 25 May.
Just been launched!
You may wish to check out the Farmer X now
The just did, the farmer X
Or plier
I wish they made a pioneer x and farmer combo. Everything the pioneer x has with saw
Like a Pioneersman?
They just released the farmer x. Farmer with added scissors, perfect!
I love the thinness of the regular Pioneer but went with the Pioneer X because I really wanted the scissors.
Well, somebody's wishes wer granted. :-)
My pioneer x is in the mail. So looking forward to it showing up so I can start daily carrying it!
So glad they're still making these!
FINALLY! The ideal EDC combo!
they already had it .....the climber
not ideal for everyone. for me only the tinker, outrider and cybertool fit the needs
@@runthomas The Climber includes a corkscrew that I never use.

I have carried both a full size and small size for 15 years, I never leave home without them!
Finally, the perfect swiss army knife! For my edc kit that is... I only wish they had an option with that little wharncliffe blade instead of the can opener like they do on the electrician model.
I said the same thing. I hate having two openers on the same knife. Seems undeniably redundant. I love vnox but their tool sets rarely make sense.
sirhorsechoker One opens cans, the other opens bottles. I never need to open either in my day to day life. But the bottle opener is a little more useful to me, because I'll have the occasional beer the needs opening, even then you can open a beer with anything. Jimmy Grey What abou the flat head, phillips(tip of can opener) and light pry bar?
@@jimmygrey6848 Or three layer; knife, scissors and saw.
As It seems, the Farmer X with saw & scissors is coming this month.
I definitely need one of those!
Super Tinker - or Climber (the same with corkscrew instead of the Phillips). Yes, they have some more tools (also a small blade) but I won't trade those for the cool look and the sturdiness of the Alox models.
+miklospinter Yes, thin is in with the Alox!

This is my first alox victorinox im really digging it
+Rich Kocon Congrats! Many more to come!
If you value scissors over pliers you should definitely get this SAK as the scissors from Victorinox are superbly good.
+PowerMadHeadBanger Victorinox says the scissors are the 2nd most often used tool, next to the blade, on SAKs!
+WeAllJuggleKnives lol yeah? do they really openly acknowledge that, then proceed to be stingy as hell with the scissors everybody asks for? They just gonna shove them openers down our throat
+sirhorsechoker LOL, but the openers have screwdrivers on the end, probably used more often than the opener parts these days.
@Wrecky61 nose hair?

Farmer X Alox has just been released and have scissors and wood saw.
Nice looking tool. It should satisfy all those who have been waiting for it to come out.
+Steve Kushman Yes, the huddled masses yearning for more alox!

Agree. But the alox looks so cool. But functionality comes first, and for me, tweezers and toothpick are two useful tools.
I wish they made a 3 layer alox knife with blade, pliers, bottleopener/screwdriver and can opener with small screwdriver.
I just got a second one. The first one I got I bought off a guy on Instagram who mods them and he made it with a pocket clip and acid washed tools and it's really very nice. The nail nick for the scissors is tricky to get to.
Victorinox has the best can opener and scissors. Any alox model is awesome.

It's cool, but I like to have a fingernail file in an EDC SAK. The EvoWood 14 is pretty great.
+Pinki2019 I like the file too, gear reviewers need clean nails!
I wish they could add straight phillips + Sheepsfoot blade layer.
Is it easily pocketable???
Yup that alox is what sold me in it lol 😂. I just bought one 😎👍 came here for the review.
I saw on their twitter they are coming out with an alox model of their pro hunter folding knife, I'm psyched!
is there a one that have saw, knife, and the scissors?
None that have the Alox scales right now :[
Farmer Alox X, released 2020
hey i prefer the 2 layer knives...is this going to be a bit heavy for edc ?
Yes, I mean if you prefer two layer than this is not for you. I would go with Victorinox Evolution 11 or S111 for two layer.
I wish Victorinox would find a way to include a LED..
Hey.. awesome video man. But I only have one concern. How will the scissors hold up after years of use? Will the spring wear out and havto to be replaced?

You just have to choose jeans with big watch pockets. :)
Most of the time I carry a Pioneer / Soldier, a space pen and a AAA flashlight in my watch pocket.
+R Dixon I'm getting one of the new purple alox cadets soon!
+WeAllJuggleKnives did not know about that.. where would one find those?
+R Dixon There is a French store that sells them on US Amazon.
Do either of the drivers work on phillips screws?
The can opener driver does.
Thanks for a great review! :)

It's a great knife for around town, I've heard from many people who use it exactly like that!
Perfect, thank you! :)
buy farmer x it has saw and scissors
Both are amazing.... but i prefer Pioner X
Sweet little multitool!
i wish they made a pioneer x with saw . In my opinion its great set if they make that
I agree, I'd buy one!
+WeAllJuggleKnives i dont expect you will response thanks for the reply :-) and btw hope they make one have good day
WAJK! Viceroy of Victorinox! Thanks for the review Blade brothah! I really like this styling little knife!
+Andrew Kincade Thanks, home brew!
thanks for the review man. always professional.
+dandandatreeman Thanks, Dan The Man!
I love it! i hope they make em in different colors!
+cebuanostud Me too, I demand metallic blue and tiger stripe camo.
Has anyone seen the pioneer x in any other colors? All I've seen is silver. :(
Not yet
Wish it had a cork screw
The farmer is one i would carry, i use the saw on my leatherman all the time

+RealBushMonkey Opinel has one like that, it's a regular Opinel but with a small saw instead of the regular blade.
Ive seen similar items from other companies too, but Id love to see Victorinox do it, their saws are great and I have a long history with them.
...so I just emailed them the idea! Wonder if they'll reply

Seriously bloke, who wants a re-usable tooth pick? yuk.
I guess back in the day, toothpicks were handed down from father to son through the generations LOL.
