Made with a wedge sole, 2mm thick leather, and with several work-friendly options (including an 8" version, steel toe, and composite toe options).

My Thorogoods were great right out of the box. I’ve been wearing them while renovating our mobile home and working on the homestead for the past 15 months. Excellent boots for outdoor work. The leather is soft and when you slather some Mink oil them occasionally it helps keep your feet dry in wet weather. Last week was standing in 2-3” of water after a huge thunderstorm and my feet were perfectly dry! I have the steel toes 6” wedge sole in tobacco

I wore these exclusively in the sawmill I spent several years in. They were very comfortable after break in and durable. I especially appreciated the wedge sole when it can time to walk across beams for maintenance. Terrific boot all around. I’m particular to the 8” over the 6”.

These are my go to boot if I have to be on my feet all day. I put in some cadence insoles for plantar faciaitis and have had zero issues with pain. I’m 300 lbs, so I usually destroy soles and inserts pretty quickly. These have held up very well with minimal trouble. A year and a half and the only thing i change is I put new leather laces on every three to four months so they stay flexible.
I had a little delamination on the instep between the midsole and sole, but a little bead of boot fix glue and they are good as new.
My only serious gripe at all with these boots is the noise. If I’m anywhere with a waxed or highly polished floor they squeak like crazy. I was told it’s the “no slip” qualities built into the sole that cause this. It literally sounds like a wet pair of sneakers at an amusement park. I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem because none of the reviews ever mention this. My redwing mocs do it too but not nearly to the same extent.
Thank you for your reviews. The thorogoods are definitely the best and most comfortable work boots for someone on their feet all day, especially if you are on hard concrete floors like factories and warehouses like me. I know a lot of guys wear them in construction and they love them too.

    • @tplambert
      @tplambert 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I have the red wing moc toe which I believe has a rubber crepe sole. Minimal squeaks on a polished floor.
I also have a pair of Clark’s desert shoe, and again a crepe sole, but those are squeaky on a polished floor. The compound of the Clarks is a lot looser. The Clarks desert shoe are totally completely useless for work even yard work, and to be honest I wouldn’t even work in my red wing moc toe or consider buying thorogood - I have a pair of cheap caterpillar boots for yard work/winter work. i have a pair of iron rangers that have a long lasting sole and aren’t squeaky at all. But they are noticeably loud when walking (colleagues have commented) I am 90kg. The moc toe sole is very comfortable however.

I think for the most part, given all of the options we have, that we tend to overthink boots.. yeah it's important to take certain things into account.. but still.. a good boot is a good boot even if it's not the best boot.

The fit and comfort level are top notch. I also a pair of Red Wings Supersole insulated work boots. Their my winter boots here in Minnesota, but they don't have the best traction and cost a $100 bucks more. The Thursdays are my weekend knock around boots.. I went to a local Boot Barn store near me and they have a wide selection of boots. Of all the wedge sole boots I saw in the store, the Thorogood is the best looking for me. I wear size 10 sneakers and 9.5D boots. But, the sizing of this boot is quite different. I first try a size 9.5D, but it's squeezing my pinky toe due to the narrow profile of the boots. Then, I try 10D which turns out to be quite big because I'm experiencing heel lift when walking. Then, I try 9.5EE which is wider but shorter compare to 9.5D. So, I ended up buying the 9.5D and hoping that the leather will stretch after some breaking period. It's not that tight... just uncomfortable to the pinky toe.

You said it was "much less slim and contoured" than the Red Wing moc but I don't see it with the side by side. I do own the Thorogood and the reason I went with them was that I felt the toe box was actually a bit slimmer than the 875s. When I was comparing the two, I felt that the 875 toe box curled up a bit, whereas the toe box on the Thorogood 814-4200 slopped down slightly towards the front of the sole. If by chunky you mean the welt/edge of the Maxwear soles on the Thorogoods protrudes more than the Red Wing 875s I'd have to agree with you there.

1:55 the reason for the top eyelet is because eyelets don’t untangle as easily as speed hooks but they take longer to adjust so you use your speed hooks for a quick, easy way to lace up your boots and then you use the eyelet to make sure the laces don’t come undone.

Thorogood moc toe boots are not very comfortable. There toe box needs to be redesigned. They are too narrow. I bought a cheap pair of Brazos
moc toe boots that fit much better in the toe box.

Just bought a pair of thorogood boots, so far unimpressed. The leather is surprisingly thin, the toe cap rubs, and their “wide ee” is more like a d. very sloppy stitching inside as well. These are NOT worth $250.

I've got to agree with the OP.
I've gone through ordering 5 pairs this last 2 months. 3 from my local store and 2 from midwest.
First was my issue finding the right size, but 3 of the 5 pairs had QC issues.
This last pair of boots had the worst QC problems I've ever seen in my life.
So the issues are, the tongue was crooked on one so much that by the time it got to the top my shin was exposed no madder how I positioned the tongue.
Then 1 boot had a gap between the sole and the leather right on the tip toe of the boot (i could move it amd open it slightly even).
Then..😅 there boots in d witdth are very narrow and the toe box is low.
That gets me the worst problems of all. So i tryed EE sizes and its like they just took the ball your foot part and extended it out (looks like a odd big lump sticking out the side just in that little area). Also with EE sizes the 11.5ee fit and measured the same as a 12d, then there 11ee fit like a 11.d. when i went EE it also made the boot longer.. so it was extra in every witch way even the heal a little.
The final huge QC issue i had was the pair of boots im shipping back for return currently.
The left boot is bigger then the right boot physically and visually by a qtr inch. I even measured them with a digital caliper😅.
There both labeled 11EE but the left fits like a 12.
The sole is almost a qtr inch wider from the mid foot up and its an 1/8 inch or more longer, even the leather part of the boot is wider and the mock toe stitched part of this left boot is about a qtr inch back farther then the other one (a good bit more toe cap infront of the mock toe stitch).
Its crazy honestly 😂 i wanted these boots so bad i looked past alot trying to get a pair.
I think im done, im going to try carolinas equivalent because i hear there a little wider and have a stitched down toe to sole.
