Hey Dank, the reason the smartphone might keep dimming and brightening is because of something called adaptive brightness. Th trouble is when companies lie about quality to inflate prices because of decreased regulation they paid for behind the scenes. At least there's still some honest reviewers out there.
Having lived off a Nokia nug for a good two years, my heart was thoroughly warmed to see that first brick. Only really used it for music but you can't escape the jank. The text messaging application can only send messages under 300 KILOBYTES so if you want to send a photo, you can't as the average size ranges from 400kbs to 1 meg. The base storage is 30 megs and once the 32 gig SD card has 3 gigs on it, the speed just tanks. When a song switches over, it takes a good half second to play so blended tracks are soiled. A little while back the charging port broke so I had to buy another and keep that one plugged into the outlet and switch over the batteries when my main was getting low. Needless to say, the iPhone 6 is quite the upgrade.
Kinda wish Dank had mentioned that the old Nokia cost $210 AUS when released and was one of the most expensive phones at the time so comparing build quality is kinda whack. It's like comparing Armani to George by Asda. LOL. Or comparing a 90s supercar to a modern kit car.
DankPods: "What phone should I take?" I was like: "Nokia Flip, obviously!" And I was right, I miss flip phones (mine is still in the drawer somewhere...)
I'm very much waiting for the day that either phones like the new moto razr or Samsung z flip become affordable to us normal folk. No way in hell can I spend that much money for a phone but man do I really like the concept of them. At the same time I wish the Asian smart flip phones in Japan and whatnot had the right wireless bands to be used more internationally because they seem pretty cool too.
The Iphone screen might not be broken. As far as I know the screen is connected via a flat cable with a flimsy connector. This connector can loosen itself for example if the phone was dropped or shaken. It might be possible to reconnect the cable, but not at an Apple store because they will just try to sell you a new one.
I mean, there's still warranty so why not. Even if its as simple as a loose connector, I'll still bring to a first party store rather then voiding my warranty
yeah, I try to get things repaired at apple while they are under warranty but they are so frigging slow to repair... it is faster to just trade for a refurb. Such an inefficient use of recourses. God I wish they would stop fighting 3rd party repair industry and let them be good.
Don't you know if you attempt to take apart an Apple phone and you're not an apple technician it will immediately explode and then it will send a Google maps location straight to the nearest Apple store so that they know that you attempted to open your Apple phone and they will refuse to get you a new one because you voided the warranty
@@Bawrabawla no because until I looked up his name I had no clue who that was I know nothing about Apple or products except for it's all very closed and proprietary the reasons why I buy Android

I had my friend over, we got in the hottub, he accidentally dropped his phone in it, so we went to walmart to get a phone, we fooled around there for awhile and found a phone for 10$. I thought there was no way it would actually be legit. But my friend just went ahead and bought it, we were laughing the whole time. When we got out of the store , he ripped the phone out and it actually didnt work too bad. We had such a good laugh.
Random tip: "MicroSD up to 32 GB" most often means it will work with bigger cards up to at least 128 GB and likely even larger, BUT only if you reformat them to FAT32 first. On Windows you need a 3rd party utility like Fat32formatter. It just means that it doesn't support exFAT and you'll just get error messages if you insert an exFAT formatted card.
2:31 The audio quality of the Nokia 225 would probably be fine, because it needs to be used to make phone calls as well. The camera doesn't need to be as good since it is just extra.
This is why I have kept all my old phones...so I have not only the memories tied to something tangible, but also because they are each a solid representation for the way that the phones of the time were and comparatively how the tech changed in such short spans of time between each. From a flip from 2008 back to a 1g, screenless, telescioping antannae cell phone from roughly 1990. Yaaay.
@@rnaval6000official I wish, some of htem so old they dont work, nor would a company allow me ot use em. Also companies been shutting down their 3g bands, which is dumb because htye left the 2g weaker band operating.

I used to have a BLU Grand m2 as my first phone that I shared with my brother. The camera sucked for a phone from 2018, but the performance was ok. The only thing I liked about it was the ringtones. Unfortunately, my parents got rid of it, so I don’t have it anymore. It was a great first phone
Now I almost want a beefed up flip phone. None of that bendy glass business, no. Just a button flip phone with a touch screen that goes out to the edges, and decent power and memory. Maybe even a dedicated scroll wheel/touchpad. That would be sweet.
I just love the fact that he went into the phone store and bought a bunch of dinky budget phones instead of a decent mid-tier smartphone that probably would've cost less than all of these combined.
Yeah honestly. I'm almost convinced these phones are designed to prey on people who don't know any better. You can get flagship phones from a few years ago for less than one of those.

That's exactly what I do. Saved a load of money. I usually buy something between mid-tier and flagship, and always used. I got a Samsung A52S ($500 at the time) for $100. I got a 400% discount because the daughter of the the guy I bought it from wanted an iPhone. I'll take it!!!!

The screens dimming randomly is a universal android feature name of "Adaptive Brightness" which can be turned off from the pull down menu or settings. I have no idea why it's enabled by default, it's kinda doodoo. But hey at least it isn't some weird defect
Yeah was gonna comment the same thing. I guess he's more used to ios so wouldn't have thought of that feature. Definitely annoying to have on by default I never use it on my phones.
@@jaykstah iOS has it, too. It's called "auto-brightness" and it can be disabled in the Accessibility section. I'm thinking those phones just have poorly positioned ambient light sensors, possibly causing them to pick up light from the screen or something like that. I don't remember my old Android tablets being too spastic, even with adaptive brightness enabled.
It's pretty bad by default, you set a base brightness and it goes up or down a certain amount. Samsung did it right though, you set the brightness a few times and it learns. I haven't had to mess with the brightness on my Note 10+ since the first week I bought it.
@@Spectere the sensor stares into the sky and the screen gets real bright. then you actually look at your phone and now the bright sky is blocked so it suddenly plummets.
@@stevy2 My last Android device was a Samsung tablet, so that probably explains why my screen experience was generally positive. :P As far as USB-C, yeah, Apple needs to rip off the band-aid and just do it. They've completely switched over to USB-C chargers, and they've already taken the leap for their laptops and most of the new iPads, so hopefully that trend continues.
My brother and I both have Galaxy S8s, and they're still going pretty strong (if a little slow due to aging). As a backup in case one of our phones carks it, we got what we call a "Dumb Smart Phone" from JB Hi-Fi. It's basically the kind of phone you'd give to a your kid who needs a phone, but doesn't need all the features of a smart phone, but they can still use WiFi and all that. This thing is SO slow, and it's ridiculously light for a touchscreen phone. It overheats at the slightest inconvenience. This is why it's a backup. We only plan on using it for a week at the most while we wait for phone repairs or replacement.
The thing with the brightness changing is a setting of android called like "adaptivity brightness' where it changes based on available light. It actually works ok on the flagships.
Yeah I finally got a nice phone after years of nursing my old LG and the adaptive brightness is sick. I can always see the screen. It reeked on my old phone though I always fiddled with the brightness manually.
Auto brightness I had a Samsung (not a flagship) that would randomly brighten up really bright and then heat up and then dim really low where I couldn’t see the screen anymore. It was god awful.
@@irvin295 My phone (Redmi 8) does something similar where if I'm on max brightness and it heats up too much it just lowers my brightness at the hardware level, while the control center still says maximum brightness
Before I got my Z-Flip (I'm apparently one of the lucky ones with no issues and I LOVE IT) I still had a dumb basic flip phone...I liked how basic it was, long battery, and small in my pocket. Unfortunately when they upgraded everything to 4G (which made my 3g nonfunctional) they apparently changed the os of the new ones and made it somehow WORSE. I used to love texting via the number pad beacause I could do it really quick, even without looking. But the new one removed the ability to press the > key to start a new letter...so if you wanted to type something like "mom" you used to be able to quickly type 6(m)>666(o)>6(m). But with the new phone you had to wait TWO WHOLE SECONDS for each letter to time out. On top of that, it often just wouldn't work for no reason! Everywhere I used to have a signal I now didn't, and even when I did it often wouldn't connect or send a message.

It's pretty bad by default, you set a base brightness and it goes up or down a certain amount. Samsung did it right though, you set the brightness a few times and it learns. I haven't had to mess with the brightness on my Note 10+ since the first week I bought it.
