      Well, right now... Nothing! I have an FJR. I ~kinda like it, its just that it will not die. Its a 2005. I keep saying, once this thing dies, or leaves me on the side of the road, or even one thing breaks... I am going back to BMWs. I guess I like having something to work on. The FJR, it really only needs oil changes, and other minimal maintenance.
      I thought about getting a Tenere or T7. But I am worried, at 56yrs old, I will probably die before it does.

      2017 bmw 1200 gs. I got it to do prudhoe bay to key west (Alaska to Florida) frankly I hated the bike BEFORE I got it. Boxer engine is shit, the frame suspension makes handling wonky and generally just a shit bike with a cult following. The moment I did my ride I sold it. I’ve been back on cruisers ever since with a few sport bikes in between. I’ve been looking at and rising pan americas on and off since they came out. Frankly they’re overpriced currently and there’s no way in hell I’m paying 25k for a bike Msrp at 19k so til dealers get hungry I’m looking for used.

    So glad my friend sent me this link.
    It's time for me to get an on-off road bike and this one seems exactly what I need.
    I'm thinking your problems with gear were likely related to the supply chain issues during that horrid time. I'm of the mind that we have seen nothing yet related to what's coming but fuck it, I ain't waiting for things to improve to go riding again.
    I took a Victory Kingpin - it was bad-ass!! - from Utah to near the Guatemala border by myself several years ago. The Kingpin was what you said, good for pavement - not so much for off road. I put over 100K miles on it in a short time and recently sold it.
    Now that I turned 62, and will get a little extra cash (hopefully - cause you know how bad the banking system is) It's time to go for another bike and I'm thinking the Pan American is exactly what I need.
    I'm not like you, all tidy. I basically looked like the Beverly Hillbillies on two wheels when I rode to Mexico. Went there three times - once to Guadalajara, once to Puerto Escondido (HIGHLY RECOMMEND - OMG I WANNA DIE THERE!!) - and the final time to Chiapas, the state that borders Guatemala.
    I didn't reach the Guatemalan border because I got some bad vibes from several trucks full of what seemed to be guerrilla warriors. But I got back to the states traveling through the east coast.
    I'm so glad I made those trips because on my deathbed I would have regretted not going. My old man, more of a motorcycle enthusiast than a bonafide "biker," refused to go with me. He's a Vietnam era retired officer (I was in the Marines, also - 1979-1983). He's 15 years older than I and when I asked him if he'd go with me his exact words were, "I ain't gonna get killed by no cartel." LOL I felt safer in Mexico than if I had gone to Chicago - which is actually where I need to go now from where I live near San Antonio, Tx.
    Thanks again for that lovely review! New sub.

    I have owned a 2002 Triumph Tiger 955 since 2007, I love it, in October I bought a 2022 Pan America special, I got the luggage at the same time, I love My new Pan-Am, it's a blizzard out right now, but in a month and a half I put on 4000 miles, can't wait till warmer weather, the Tiger is going to be sold, and I will be ridding the crap out of the Pan-Am, Both bikes are on battery tenders in My heated garage, it is supposed to drop down to 10 below F. this Friday and Saturday night, and 10 inches of snow here in Iowa, thinking about loading up one of them up and hauling it down to Florida for a week,

      I've owned both. Sold my BMW to buy the Pan Am and have not been disappointed. BMW has some annoying traits that you did not hit on which have plagued the bike for years. Overall though, I thought your review was well done. The Pan Am is not perfect but neither was the BMW. I'm at 7500 miles now with zero issues. Overall what has impressed me most about the Pan Am is its ability to chew up miles without effort. What impressed me the least about the Pan Am and something Harley really needs to address is the size and placement of the rear tail light. Small and hard to see with full bags on the bike. Borderline dangerous. I rigged aftermarket LED's on my tail box to help with that. Otherwise, good scoot.

      @@greenrush4313 Hello Sir, I wrote that review a year ago, I did not sell My old Tiger, and that turned out to be a good thing, My Pan America sprung an oil leak, and it was repaired under warranty, but it took four attempts and three months of down time, right in the middle of summer, lets just say, I am glad I kept the Tiger around, I did not get to do any long trips last summer, I have been eyeing a few trips this year, still love the Pan America, we will see if it keeps running good so I get to put on some serious miles this year, at this time I have 17000 miles and only have had a couple random lost comm. codes pop up, so other than the oil leak, it has been pretty problem free.

      I have seen some KLRs out in the desert in California on my KTM 300 dirt bike. Once, out where, I was thinking the dirt bike might need a helicopter rescue. And here comes this raggedy KLR. Looked like it'd just got off the Mad Maxx movie set. Dude says not a word, gets out the longest tie down strap I have ever seen, and just pulls me to safety. And then, he grunted and rode off. My buddy and I laughed and laughed, but were very thankful.

    HD has broken new ground and also entered an arena with some heavy hitters like BMW, Triumph, Yamaha, Ducati etc. I think the Pan America has a long time future in HDs product line and each year the Pan America will get a little better than the previous. And like every HD accessory, there's after-market parts, often better and less expensive. Cracking good video mate, best of luck to you and your family.

    I have the PAS, didn't go for the HD hard bags for 2 reasons: primarily, you need a key every time you want to open and close the panniers (just a pain!) and because there are several better after market options (in my opinion) whereby the right side pannier is shaped wider at the top for more storage and a more pleasing look. I went with the Hepco-Becker hard paniers (not inexpensive) but man they are of the highest German quality and work brilliantly. Also, Givi and Shad have vairous design choices as well and carry very good reviews - if you don't want to pay the Harley tax yet still have high quality and functional stuff.

      @TheSteveFreeman this is my second one actually, I had a 2021 that was bought back due to it being a turd, I've had more electrical issues than I can count, coolant leaks, engine noise, ARH failure, no starts, hard starts, been left stranded twice, transmission has a habit of getting stuck in gear after a downshift, the best was the upgraded side stand failed and broke in a parking lot destroying the factory panniers on one side, HD did nothing for that either, have 2200 miles on this one and to sell it I will take a huge bath, they have zero resale value, most bought HD of 21, now they are the most traded in model of 22 and most likely 23, swing and a huge miss by HD.

      Trust me, I’ve had every single issue you’ve heard about with my Pan America. Electrical problems, too many to count, but the main issue when I made this video 3 years ago was the fact that you couldn’t take this bike on an adventure because no parts were available to make that possible. I bought the bike specifically to do adventure trips.

    Thanks for the video BUT, Your title is SO Misleading. Just because you cannot carry stuff, you cannot state that you HATE the Bike.
    The Bike is NOT perfect, but I can tell you that this bike is a Swiss Army Knife. I've owned many bikes in my riding career and based on my experience, HD did a pretty good job. I ride a 22 PA
    I just did a Ride from Houston to Vegas for a conference and this bike is great to tour on but also ride off road.
    I'm comparing this to my sport Bikes ( Hurricane, 2 x Ninja's , ZRX1200, KZ750 ) On the Cruising side ( VTX1300, Goldwing, Road King)
    and based on that, this Bike is great. Again, not perfect, but great. Sure wish companies would send me free stuff to test, going to start a channel and provide real titles to stuff. I can only have one bike in my garage and this bike damn near does it all - almost.
    Keep making content. I did a ride to San Diego 2 years ago on my Road King, and yes, California is awesome for bikers......Getting older and the King is very heavy.....
    Ride safe - See ya on the road.

    • @TheSteveFreeman
      @TheSteveFreeman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, I have MANY we’ll documented reasons as to why I hate this bike, but among them which is the reason for this video was that I purchased an adventure bike incapable of gong on an adventure because Harley didn’t manufacture enough of the side mounting hardware or panniers to get for the bike and no third party manufacturers had anything either. I bought this bike specifically to take long off and on road journeys which require you to to pack clothes and essentials, which I couldn’t do, that’s why I hated the bike, besides the first year 2021’s like mine being riddled with constant battery and electrical issues. Many of those have been worked out in the 2 year models proceeding mine and now, the side mounting hardware is more readily available so that PA owners can actually take the bike on an adventure. I love the idea of the bike and had I bought a 22 or 23, I wouldn’t have the complaints I have.

    • @JoseVillarreal-ke1kv
      @JoseVillarreal-ke1kv ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheSteveFreeman I see your point. But I respectfully disagree with you hating this Bike. Have to share that the only thing I have purchased to carry my stuff is the rear mounting Rack. I reused an old touring case I had on the RK and it worked really well - same color BLACK and it carries all my tools and LAPTOP, I also reused a triple play brake flasher from custom dynamics - with this thing having the CANBUS system you have to be very creative how you add lights(leds) . I had a luggage bag on rollers that served as a backrest as well on the rear seat. I do not like side cases much but if I had to buy some, I would like to try the soft cases. They are a little out of my reach....So I got creative. Hope I run into you on my rides to CA in the future and we can debate over a drink, or 2 or 3....Ride safe brother. Thanks for the videos...

      Not being able to take an adventure bike on an adventure is an issue with the bike. BMW, Ducati, Triumph, Honda, Kawasaki, none of the other adventure bike manufacturers have any issue with making the accessories that are required to taking an adventure available. So in my opinion, it’s all about the bike.

    The PA gets a lot of negative hits on utube. The reason for your "hate" is buying a first year bike and not finding parts support? I just got on line and found Givi luggage and racks in stock. I think the research took 2 days. Motostorm out of Italy, and I think racks and hard bags were under 1500.00 US. They also have soft bag choices.
    I have a PA, ride both on and off road. Great bike, toured on it in Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming this summer.

I don't believe the Pan Am or the Live Wire is HD's problem, putting out dependable, quality, and affordable bikes are. Getting younger riders in your showrooms is good for business. The ADV is the fastest growing segment in motorcycling. HD did a great job of stepping out of the box. As a manufacturer, these things need to happen. I'm sure someone said, I just understand Ford. Why did they take the crank starter off the front of the car? It's called innovation. Safe travels.
