Saving a Swarm of Bees

  • A swarm of bees settled on this table in someone’s backyard and I was called to remove them. Learn all about swarms, why they happen and what you can do to help them as I scoop these bees off the table and into a hive!

As I get older, one thing is becoming more and more clear to me. Every year it seems, more and more people are understanding the importance of bees and how precious they are. Everyone is getting the message to not harm them and if a swarm comes and rests in your backyard....don't grab a can of spray to kill them....call a pro to safely come and get them and move them to their new home like you did.
    Thank you.

Contrary to the popular myths, bees are not vital to the majority of the food supply. Rice, corn, wheat, soybeans, etc. don't depend on bees. So, yes, bees can buzz off.

This is why I get upset with ppl online who have talked about calling exterminators “because it won’t kill the bees out” by getting rid of one swarm but they never realize how many naturally don’t make it & that there’s HUNDREDS of ppl that choose extermination & say the same thing. It’s never just “one hive”.

First time I saw one of your videos, I was surprised how you could move these bees without being hurt by them. Then I watched another video of a guy doing the same, but he was all dressed. The difference was that he wasn’t gentle like you. You take the BEES’s TIME to move them. You don’t hush them, so they have time to adapt and understand the moving situation. He was doing what he wanted to do and I’m sure that, if he wasn’t all dressed the bees would attack him. Thank you for being kind with these precious little ones! 😊😘🙏🏻🙏🏻

I think I've seen others on TH-cam all decked out in their bee outfit, but I don't think I've seen that when they're dealing with honey bees. I have seen it when they're dealing with different kinds of bees (Africanized bees, etc), or hornets, wasps, etc, so it's important to notice what they're dealing with. For a time I watched a couple of fellows in Australia who removed killer bee hives - usually they'd relocate them (and I'd think WHY?), but they made the point that they are pollinators, and if possible should be relocated and not destroyed. But they HAD to wear the protective gear. Interestingly, I've never seen anyone relocate a yellow jacket nest, even though they're pollinators, too.

All you have to do is tell them to go on or that they don't want to get stuck in your car or whatever they are trying to do and wave them away. They usually get the hint. I've been stung a couple of times in my life but it's not life threatening and usually heals in 5 it 6 days.

Bees and wasps are completely different tho

    • @majbrat
      @majbrat ปีที่แล้ว +1

Even many species of wasps are great & super beneficial.
They usually are just hunting, and if left alone, or you dont freak out, they carry on without doing anything.
There are wasps called paper wasps, and they recognize & remember faces.
If you are calm and not aggressive, they totally remember and pass the knowledge onto their young.
If you freak out and try to bat them or harm them, they remember.
We had a Colony in our yard for years .
They hunted all the bad bugs in our vegetable & flower garden. :)
There are also hundreds of kinds of Solitary Bees who don't live in hives and need little holes to brood. Some look more like colorful flies.
They are essential pollinators too & you can buy little bee houses for them to put in your garden. Pretty much just tubes in a frame. It's pretty cool to see them fill up. We started with 1 and ended up with 4 little bee houses, lol. We knew we needed more when we saw some trying to use the vertical wind chime holes 😆.
I have learned more from my daughter than I learned my whole life about Bees & Wasps.

When I was a child, visiting my nearby grandparents, I cycled through a huge swarm of bees. I may have only been about 12 years old, but I knew they weren’t threatening and I marvelled at the swarm until the queen landed on a nearby tree. My grandparents were shouting and screaming to get in their house (they never understood simple biology), and eventually went in the house. I tried to explain to them that bees are not aggressive insects, and a swarm is just a natural process. Eventually, a beekeeper came and took them into a new hive along with their queen. I’ll never forget that moment as a child on a bike, completely surrounded by bees 🐝 😊. It was a beautiful sight.

Your posts have not been popping up -- instead, all these other beekeeping pages, some really ugly ones jealous of you: What I love love LOVE about your videos, is the demonstration of the daily practice of calm, and how bees respond to it. Of all the beekeepers I've watched, you are the only one who treats the bees like they are part of yourself - as you put it, "on the same team." You are so calm & so gentle it reminds me of what I strive to be. Thank you for your calm. Btw, the other day, a bee landed on me, confused by my housedress, and perhaps more confused by the scent of the steam from the lemon and honey I drink with my meals. I was standing on the porch by the beebalm, so I put my hand in front of the bee, it crawled on and I set it back on a flower (before returning to the house for a wash & change of clothes, as it occurred to me lemon was a mating smell for them, yes?) It was a very peaceful thing to have this little life, capeable of stinging, instead clambering peacefully accross my fingertips.

I love your videos! They're so calm and informative, I have one request, can you reupload your tiktoks in TH-cam as shorts? Many of us don't use TikTok and would love to see your other videos!! Have a nice day!

So glad to see this work being done and appreciate it being accomplished so adeptly. And I have deep concern about their survival due to information of decline coming from so many areas in the US.

Wish I could keep a hive or two. The bees love my rosemary, fuchsia, and lavendar. They really help me out with my garden. I'll try to plant more for them!

The bee's senses her energy towards them and that she is not a danger to them and cooperates with her gentle nature.
