Ha! It took me about 59 tries but I got it. The key to this is to 1. Have patience, but 2. To NOT TAKE YOUR TIME lol that will only cause the thread to build up on the fabric and eventually your needle will get stuck in the pile up or break. You have to slam on the foot peddle and allow it to go as fast as possible then BOOM... A buttonhole. Thanks for this awesome video❤️
Thank you for this video. I miss my old singer where I could manually control it without switching the pressure foot. Took me forever to find the white button foot but thankfully I hadn't throw it away. Without this video I wouldn't have known I even needed it or what to look for
I’ve been going back to this video for years every time I need to sew a buttonhole. I followed the official Singer video and no matter what I did it wouldn’t work, I thought something was defective until this video. Thank you!!!
I've watched dozens of videos, checked the manual, and asked an online group of people and no one could help me. THIS video helped. My old singer was a little stuck and I tried testing it so many times without lifting the lever back up to reset the machine. Resetting and giving it a little nudge did the trick. Thank you for explaining that!!!!
Yes! Also make sure your bobbin is full. This stitch uses a lot of thread, and I didn’t realize it until I ended up with one button hole only half way done, which meant I had to remove all the stitches and start all over. 😩
I have been so scared of making button holes so I avoided any projects with button holes. I will give it a shot and see how I do. Thank you 🙏🏻 so much for the explanation .
Thank god for this video. Didnt even know you could use the button to configure the hole template. For anyone whose machine is just making balls of thread in one place, pushing that little lever back will get you on track.
Fabulous! I just spent the past hour trying to make a buttonhole using the Manual instructions. Until I watched your video, I did not know there was a hidden buttonhole lever that I had to pull down! Thank you!!!
I found that buttonhole foot so intimidating until I watched this video. Heck I forgot I had 4 dials! (Still a new user) I don’t use the manual. I’m a visual learner so a clear video is brilliant. This is the first buttonhole one I came across and it’s brilliant. Will give a like and a comment so it continues to be deservedly at the top! Thank you!
Omg thank you so much. You’re the best teacher. Great lesson on buttonhole. Now I have to see if you have a video on threading. I just got this new machine for Christmas. My other one is 29 yrs old. 😂😂
I make buttonholes VERY seldomly because I mostly sew on Lycra making dance costumes - no buttons! But, sewing for my grandbabies, I need buttonholes every now and then. So, each time, I watch your video to refresh my memory. Thanks so much for being there every time!
Thanks, I just purchased the 44S, my 4411 presser foot take up lever broke. $150 to f8x it. I needed to make sure I didn’t break anything. You know sometimes your so eager, you don’t pay attention. Well I did. Thanks appreciate your time. 🤗🤗💕💕
Oh thank you so so much, I send half day trying to do button holl, but don't how but your video just help me a lot. Excellent Tq so much for sharing the tutorial .🙏🥰
I'm definitely going to try this method as adjusting the tension down maybe what I'm looking for to create a neat button hole on both sideas at the moment I'm getting a neater side on the right 🤞
@@dannim6269 I had the same issue, then I noticed in the manual that the "length" was supposed to be somewhere BETWEEN 0 and 1 (I had it at 0) and moved it to halfway between 0 and 1. But I also figured out that I needed to pull the lever farther down before pushing it back - it sticks at a point not quite all the way down to the buttonhole foot - so I'm not sure which adjustment made it work for me.
even the official singer buttonhole tutorial did not mention that you had to push the buttonhole lever BACK as well as down, nor did it mention that you had to pull the lever down all the way, nor did it mention to put it on the buttonhole setting on the wheel or what width to put it at. i kept trying to make it work but, until i watched your video where i found that I didn't push the lever back, it didn't work. thank you so much!
Yay! I have succesfully made the button hole..thank you to the video owner. You have made my day. The only problem here my buttonhole push button very hard to go up
The last time I did buttonholes was with my 1970 White machine, using the buttonhole maker attachment with a cam inserted in the bottom of it after opening the little “door”.
thank you so much. I was wondering why there was the thing at the back lol. gone from an old Elna to a this singer heavy duty machine.... it is slightly different in many ways
Hi I bought a Brand-new Singer Heavy Duty 4423. Please show me how to use Stretch stitch on the T-shirt knit fabric or Stretch fabric. I'm new at sewing so your instructions will be greatly appreciated.
My machine won’t do the other side of the button hole. It only does one side but doesn’t switch over. So I end up with one button hole line. Any help as to how I can make it right ?
Omg I've been wondering why my satin stitch looks like trash and I've searched everywhere for the answer!! Thank you for the tip about lowering top tension, I'm going to try that immediately
Hi. Most straight stitch machines have a buttonhole "option". However, some of them include a buttonhole foot and others don't. The Singer Heavy Duty 4423 includes. Buttonhole foots make it easier to sew buttonholes if you're new to sewing. The Heavy Duty 4423 takes way less steps to sew a buttonhole than others. If a sewing machine doesn't include a buttonhole foot, you would need to select zig zag stitches and then select a 0.5 stitch length, then you would need to measure your button and draw on your fabric the buttonhole (based on the button's width). Then you would sew the buttonhole like a small rectangle, when u finish sewing the first vertical line of your rectangle you would need to lift the presser foot, and then rotate your fabric, and sew the horizontal line of your buttonhole, and so on.
@@shaniasworld1204 I think I've sorted it, the lever has to be pulled right down & then pushed back, then reset for each button hole x I've now done 8 successfully
HELP!! I thought I was following your instructions to a T and as soon as I started sewing, NY NEEDLE BROKE! It’s a new machine and gentle fabric, I’m pretty sure it hit the white button hole thing ! Please help!!
After making a buttonhole, and wanting to return to a straight stitch ( I return the white lever to its position), my 4423 won't stitch forward. What am I doing wrong???
Sometimes at the end of step 4 I hit the reverse button and go back to the top for a thicker button hole on the right side. It's easier than adjusting the button on the right side of the machine. I will try adjusting the tension to 3. That would be easier then either of the options I've tried!
Is there something on this machine which creates the hole for the button? I imagine a knife of some sort would work, but then don't you have to worry about cutting the thread of the outline you've just constructed and fraying of the fabric which has been cut? Some of us are sewers newer than your machine!
It is the buttonholer on this machine that makes me wish I still had my mom's 1952 machine This buttonholer NEVER makes the holes big enough for the buttons. After all this I have decided I need to use a button a little larger than the ones I will use to finish the garment to calibrate the buttonholer. It's terribly frustrating!

I agree with all the comments that you unlocked the secret of making a buttonhole on this machine! The Singer video was not at all clear. Thank you!🙂
Thank you so much. I watched many videos but you are the best.
thank you, I had to remind myself how to make buttonholes on the singer HD as it's been a long time since I last did them :)
This tutorial is better then the official singer tutorial thank you 🙏🏼
I guess it's kind of randomly asking but do anybody know a good site to stream newly released tv shows online?

Thank you sooooo much for all these videos. I had never used a machine like this before and it’s so easy to learn with you! 😊😊
Thank you, this was so helpful! I got stuck for a while because I didn’t pull the “PUSH” thingy down far enough. Finally figured it out.
I was here for the same problem, She is great !!!! I was about to return it tomorrow

Do you know why my machine hitting on one place not moving or start move and gathering fabric , I have new mashine
I had the same but then i found i have to pull that ‘push’ leaver even further down. Really it goes lower and then you can push it back better as well
I’ve tried this and my machine doesn’t move. And all the thread builds up and gets stuck. I did everything like this video. Idk what the problem is

Very cool tutorial. Mine came as a gift handed down with no handbook. Thank you and TH-cam for these educational videos.👌
Fantastic demo. More informative than the others out there.
I’m going to attempt a button hole this week, after that area is sewn, do I just use scissors to cut out the middle section?

thank you this has helped me tremendously!!
Yay! I just made my first button hole!!
You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you!
I have my singer set as you instruct, but my the stitch remains in one place. Have stitch length on 1. Can you help me?
Thanks so much for this now I get it! If only I had seen this video earlier. God bless.
Thank you for this super helpful video.
Thank you....I finally understand how to do this!
Hi I bought a Brand-new Singer Heavy Duty 4423. Please show me how to use Stretch stitch on the T-shirt knit fabric or Stretch fabric. I'm new at sewing so your instructions will be greatly appreciated.
Well, this machine can create only small button holes. What if I would like to have 1.5 inch or longer button hole?
I've tried and only get a big ball of thread at the starting point
Thank you! The manual doesn't mention the pull-down lever at all?! Was getting so frustrated, watching one minute of your video solved my issue :)
Thank you.. excellent tutorial! I want to make large buttonhole with a button larger that the attachment, how is this done?
Thank you! You made it very very easy!! I wish TF they would give us a book with these machines.I’m your new subscriber, it’s April 14,2021
I have this machine but the buttonhole gadget won't open wide enough for the large buttons I want to sew onto a jacket.....what can I do?
Thank you sooo much! I had no idea that button hole lever was even there! You saved me from pulling my hair out! LOL
Thank you so much, very easy to follow!
Do you then take a pair of scizzors and snip the fabric to make the hole? Or do you cut the hole prior to? I’m a total newbie at this!
You snip after the buttonhole is made on the machine.
i use a seam ripper for my button holes, just be careful, but for me its easier so i dont end up snipping through the bottom of the hole
Cool! Honestly I have no need for button holes in anything I make, but it looks like so much fun that I'll look for an excuse to try some : )
Can you still order the button hole plate please
Thank you so much ....it finally work for me . thank you for showing this video
Thank you soo much for this tutorial ❤❤❤
The return stitches on my buttonhole don't look as nice as the first pass. How can I fix that?
My machine won’t do the other side of the button hole. It only does one side but doesn’t switch over. So I end up with one button hole line. Any help as to how I can make it right ?
