My mom and all her sisters were ( they still are) so talented at sewing and quilting and make it look so easy. I wish I'd paid closer attention and asked more questions when I had the chance. I'm still figuring out everything on her machine. It's not as easy as she made it seem (get it, seem/seam?) 💖😂

20 years ago I was sowing a lot. I had a pattern custom made of a really nice long coat (and pants) and bough hand woven silk, jacquard like, for it. It turned out beautiful, but I messed up one buttonhole, so much so a tailor couldn't mend it. Since I have avoided sowing anything that needs buttonholes. Now I decided to sow them again, but this time by hand.

I know exactly what you mean about sewing buttonholes on heavier fabric. I have a Brother sewing machine and yet when I attempt buttonholes on heavier fabrics like denim, wool, etc my sewing machine just sews over and over in the same spot and doesn't move forward or backward to make the actual buttonhole.

@@Kay-hg2vo I wish I knew why buttonholes are such a problem for certain brother machines. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll need to purchase one of the high-end really expensive models for several thousand dollars to get a machine that will sew buttonholes on all types of fabrics.
