What did you think of the USWNT performance?
Good performance overall but need people in midfield with ball skills to control the rhythm of the game!
Young players looked great. The future is bright.
meh, chaotic on both sides. don’t know how we won (except for murphy) but it was fun football
Scrappy and mostly boring to watch, GK had a great game.
The good thing is they won. The bad thing is that they were out possessed. The midfield needs a revamp . Being out posses 62%to 38% shows that we have problems of possession something that occurred in the Olympics as well

Yes, she was great!
Even with the World Cup win in 2019, Naehler was inconsistent. Murphy brings a lot more to the table. That extra 4" reach is gonna allow her to save a lot more goals & pick off a lot more crosses. Great positioning and anticipation. Should be the starter moving forward.
Murphy is eight years younger than Naehler, so she has time on her side. This game was spectacular, but she needs more caps before being anointed as the 2023 starter.

@@dannybailey3720 Given the way England, France and Germany looked at this year’s Euros, I wouldn’t be too sure. Excited for the USWNT/England friendly in October but it’s clear the rest of the world has closed most of the gap to the USWNT. We could very well lose that game.

@@abcdxyz3716 I’ve never seen a goalkeeper debut like that for the USWNT. It took Naeher a long time to take the helm but Casey looks ready. Not asking to move Naeher but Casey should be the second keeper going forward. Campbell, Franch, look tentative in goal.

She had a heck of a season with NC Courage - stood up under intense pressure. She's come out of the crucible as a confident goalie. That was Solo's strength and took Neaher awhile to get there. I think Murphy's got the "special sauce" recipe.

Absolutely, we struggled at right back with O’Hara not the same she was in the past. Look Emily Fox have been so solid on the right. Put Crystal in Midfield for bite and she’s really good because it’s her position? We have the players but Vlatko play politics and it cost us the Gold.
Crazy that 2 of the best offensive players from the NWSL season, Pugh and Rodman, aren't even in this lineup against an Australian team that hasn't really improved as a team since leaving the NWSL and their own league. Get the vaccine, people.

US Defense looked suspect! Asides from the GK. She is great
This is not the normal defense and Sonnet isn’t the answer at right back.
The US defensive play overall seems chaotic. There’s no man marking, they instead mark space or have 2-3 players just chasing the ball hoping to force a turnover.

Luckily, Murphy was the player of the match, because the defense looked inexperienced. Cook was a repeated weak spot. I love to see the hunger up front, though. Hatch, Pugh, Rodman, & Smith should’ve all been on the Olympic roster.

Looks like a great all around game. A few too many chances for Kerr is troubling however. Thankfully Murphy was on-point all match!
Also, how terrible was that whistle when Horan went down. Can't the ref see that Lavelle was clear through? That's definitely an advantage that should have been played to its outcome.

She should be several years into her national team career, but the older players have too much power over roster decisions and are unwilling to choose to retire because the national team is where the money is.

USWNT got outplayed in this match. Australia dominated possession and forced several great saves out of Murphy. The scoreline doesn’t indicate how the match actually went.

Well the USWT is the gold standard. One year on ...... Usa lose to England , Spain and Germany. 2-1 , 2-0 , 2-1. Before those games, the Usa had played, in the previous two years , only 3 top ten teams. Just 3 ??? Usa might be defending World champions, but that was 4 years ago. Things have changed. A lot. Its a wake up call.
Congrats usa sad not too see Kristie and Sam and some of the older and legendary players but great job
they both played limited minutes

*I'm going to give a pass to this USA team because I'm considering the long trip and therefore the jet lag. The hero was Casey Murphy, the goalkeeper, who saved kicks that would have been real goals. She was the best player in the game. The team needs a combination of experienced players and young ones. Why? Because the experienced players teach to the young one the tricks. You cannot throw an entire young team at the international level. Sweden and the Netherlands would have beaten this USA team. Keep in mind that Australia is the 11th best team in the FIFA ranking.*
They literally just finished their season with the NWSL Final less than week before this friendly. Not to mention that they had to fly to Australia, adjust to the time zone, and play with majority of the other players for the first time as a unit. I thought they were going to maybe tie. This Australia team's been on a slump but they had extra motivation going into this game being their largest home crowd ever for the women's national side.
Did a little research. A good bit of the vets either declined the invitation or werent at full health to play.
@@isardonic8601 They didn't decline. They weren't called up. Usually it's to give them a rest and give some new players a chance. Only two people declined: Mal Pugh and Trinity Rodman. Pugh - most likely because of the vaccine. Rodman - probably the same thing...

I watched the whole game and found the lack of an ability to put the ball either side of the US keeper alarming. The keeper made several good saves but was helped by the ball being fired directly at her position. I think the US team learned something from the game as late in the game they were more scrappy and threw the Aussies off their game. I think Tegan Mica (Spelling ?) is not a good quality keeper. Every time she has played for the Aussies she has been complicit in at least one game. In this case the second goal went in off her feet. If it hits your body it should not go in. I must say that the commentary team from Fox was very good. I have never heard a US commentary that was so "on the ball". They were relevant to the game and always in touch with the action even when commenting on specific players.

The result does not reflects the performance of both teams. I am really worried about the USWNT , they were dominated by The Matildas, thanks to the USWNT GK #caseymurphy who made several saves.
Matildas had their A team. This was USWNT B team or maybe even C team. They won 3-0. Not worried at all… if anything excited to see what these rookies are capable of in the future. The discovery of Murphy’s talent and presence in the net was the biggest takeaway from the match.
Ummm...that's what the GK is there for!! It's all nice for the USWNT 2 dominate ball control, but that doesn't give the GK anything 2 do!! Then u got Francha who lets in easy soft a$$ goals!! If CM can put up this type of effort and results, she'll be the GK 4 da next decade!! If Becky didn't deflect the Mathilda's goal in the second game....CM woulda had 2 clean games!!

Sport is about skills , great players started playing at 17 in seniors teams. You know women soccer is new , it is not as competitive as men's soccer. Lynn Williams had 1 goal in 10 games for NC, she's done nothing to deserve to still get caps, why is vladko wasting time and caps on williams when we have a lot of young talent that can use those minutes, Ashley Sanchez did more in 5 minutes then Lynn Williams did in 85 mins. Williams is so uncomfortable on the ball and completely ineffective. Why the double standard ? Williams is the only player that didn't earn these caps ? Vladko is wasting valuable time !!!
Williams has never been a player you can run the offense through. Just look at this game all she pretty much did was run after that first pass with the head for a goal. She is plain and simple just a soccer player with a lot of speed. You look at the forwards that are called up for this game Lynn only has speed over most of them. Skill wise as well as her ability of playing with and without the ball is the worst of the 6 forwards called up. She has been given chances by Jill and now Vlatko and she has shown no evolution in game or skills going back to when Jill first called her up. It always her speed they talk about nothing else. There are other forwards you can call up in place of her that have more skilled for playing the position of right forward.
Sad to agree, but I do agree. I hope he starts Midge on the right and Sofia on the left next game, maybe with Cat in the #9

It’s good they scored early but for the rest of the game, Hatch, who scored the goal pretty much disappeared the rest of the game. The same thing happened in the 2nd game.

Horan dives each time she gets tackled, plays for the free kick, the penalty was poor ref call, Us keeper saved a couple but also aussies made her look better by directing shots straight at her, plus one blatant miss from in front, Sam Kerr not at her best, glad Rapinoe didnt play, would not have watched, final score not really telling true story, so the USA has simply become the States?

Every few years I check in to see if the women's games still don't suck....and nothing changes. They're slow, unskilled, running into each other, can't shoot, can't pass, can't dribble, no shape......it's awful. Must be so hard for the announcer guy to try and make this sound interesting.

E There seems to be a very small section of people who despise womens football with a passion. With so much hatred, that they refuse even to listen to any facts. They are right and no matter what evidence you produce, they will not accept it. It is so much sexism and misogyny , that it really seems to be a mental illness. I would bet money that they are domestic abusers. If they ever get a girlfriend.

If women's want equal or more pay, they need to play in the men's league. That way they can prove they are actually as good as they say.
