“I don’t want to discourage you by making you think you need all this special equipment. But I want you to see the ideal equipment.”
So unlike the celebrity chefs of today… where they are all endorsing brands or selling their own products. They are just out to make a buck. Julia was doing this strictly for the love of cooking and passing her knowledge on to others. Bless her. ❤

once again Julia offers advice that no other chef ever would. "look up marble under tombstone ..." legend!

The idea of getting your cooking marble from a headstone salesman is both hillarious and genius

Wow! Hearing the old WGBH theme made me cry. I used to watch Julia and all the other PBS cooking shows with my grandmother... That's where my love of cooking came from. Thanks for uploading this. It triggered a ton of good memories.

I’m 49 1/2 and grew up hearing of Julia Child but never watching her show. My mom never watched her show and didn’t have any of her cookbooks. I’m watching this for the first time. I watched the documentary Julia on CNN last night. It was so very interesting. It made me want to watch her show.
She really did make this look easy.

Before her, there was no one in America cooking on tv. She started the fad of cooking shows. Just watched a mini-series about her on HBO.

I always wondered what she (or anyone else that did a cooking show) did with all the food they cooked. Offen times they had to cook the same thing a couple times just to show off the steps involved. I always figured they gave it to the crew working on the show as well, from the cameramen to the secretaries working in the office.

I balance a tray on top of other containers (usually quart take out containers) for a short chill.

I really worry about people born after 1990 being able to make their way in the world. Did you even notice that the slab is only about an inch thick? You put it on the shelf FIRST, then put other little items on top of it, like butter, cream cheese, etc. There's plenty of room. Or, unless you're a pastry chef or baker, the marble can stay elsewhere in the kitchen until you need it. It's called "Planning." We had to do that back in the olden days.

Everyone needs a second fridge. Mine is in the garage. Men put their beer in it. A turkey or ham fits well. A pizza box. A party tray. I know not everyone has room for one. I don’t have a marble pastry block and don’t intend to make my own puff pastry. Ever. Enjoyed watching this so much. Julia had a huge impact on children. I wonder if she knew that. And she gave mothers and kids meaningful television to watch together. A boon to stay-at-home moms who needed an adult in their daily lives at home.
