    I love the rooftop scene because it really shows how polar opposite Hayama and Hachiman are. Let me explain:
    Hayama's method is caring and kind, but it isn't effective in making Sagami feel better by saying it's not her fault but because Sagami feels useless and unwanted in the committee, *making her not wanting to do the closing ceremony.*
    While Hachiman's method is dirty and harsh, but effective, he plays tricks on Sagami making her feel more guilty, seeing her true intention by telling her she is like him, a low and selfish person (but she really is XD), to trick her into not wanting to be like Hachiman and *making her decide fast to prove she is better than him by doing the closing ceremony.*
    *THAT'S A CLEVER WAY OF GASLIGHTING A GUILTY BAD PERSON.*

    • @murasame1450
      @murasame1450 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      While they are polar opposites in their methods, I think that Hachiman and Hayama actually kind of struggle from the same thing. Hachiman is sacrificing himself for others and plays the "bad guy" because he's unable to play the good guy or people make him out to be that, and Hayama is so popular that even if he does something selfish or wrong, people will not punish him which could make him feel guilty for his actions. He may also be unable to tell people what they need to hear because people expect him to be the good guy.

    Hayama is so kind = Hayama cannot make solutions because he cannot tell people what they need to hear to actually induce change. He's so pro status quo that he'll let a situation go FUBAR if that's what it takes to maintain his social standing and prestige. He had all the social capital he ever needed to coax Sagami into doing her job, but he didn't. That's basically Hayama in a nutshell.

      I think you're being a bit too harsh on Hayama. I don't exactly remember if this was properly explained in the anime but in the light novels, Hayama knew Hachiman was right. But instead of telling people the harsh truth and risk being seen as the bad guy, Hayama prefers to act like a nice person. Hayama respects Hachiman a lot although the two disagree regarding their methods. This is best shown in season 2 when Hayama defends Hachiman from two girls who are bullying him. He trash talks them but later admits he felt horrible doing so and wishes to never do something like that again.
      Even in this moment, Hayama was on Hachiman's side. He didn't stop Hachiman from talking to safe Sagami's feelings, he did it because Hachiman was socially digging his own grave and Hayama wanted to prevent that. The proof presents itself shortly after when Hayama asks Hachiman why he does things this way. He doesn't look angry or disgusted at Hachiman for hurting Sagami, he looks sad because he keeps on seeing Hachiman hurting himself with his methods.

    • @jakeguillero9804
      @jakeguillero9804 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alpha-samaI feel like if that was really what Hayama is thinking and feeling then his actions should match that, prior to this he kept smiling whenever his friend talked sh*t about Hachiman and sometimes he would even add comments to his friend's weird remarks about Hachiman similar to 9:02 If it was another person Hayama would say "He probably have reasons why he did that" but he's a bit different toward Hachiman for some reason. Honestly, it might just be him subconsciously thinking that his "good image" and his friend's remarks weigh more than Hachiman's reputation which is understandable since they weren't friends to begin with. In season 2, he also knows Hachiman wouldn't mind sacrificing his reputation but he still asks him to save his petty and shallow friend group.
      There's no point in me liking and understanding Hayama since I really dislike people who have no spine to stand up for someone who is being misunderstood and being unnecessarily bullied. He honestly reminds me of Miki Kawai from Silent Voice although he has more depth.

    What Hachiman said to Sagami is the bitter truth about her. But people don't want to hear truth, everyone wants a sugarcoated lie. But sugarcoated lies only spoils you to the core. A truth can be bitter and hurtful but still it can force you to change and improve yourself. Hachiman chose the "Truth" strategy where whole world is addicted of hearing lies.

    I love that it only takes the first season to prove that the characters are some of the most complex and interesting in anime. Hachiman is intelligent and perspective, but his low self-esteem and pessimistic vision of those around him lead him to act distant while in essence he is a good boy who wants to help people, only his way of doing it is sacrificing himself since he doesnt see himself as someone who deserves affection or support.
    Yuki is also intelligent, but with the drive and determination to want to change the world. But at the same time has an almost idealistic vision of herself and those around her, the standards set by her family make her believe that if she is not the "best" version of herself she will not achieve anything in life, but at the same time she has created walls with her pride that doesnt allow her to accept that it is okay to receive help, especially from the people who love you.
    Yui seems the most emotionally and socially adapted of the three, she knows how to identify what others feel and what she herself wants from the people around her, but at the same time she is a people pleaser,
    Even though she knows what she wants for herself, she is not willing to fully act on that feeling in order for her friends not to suffer or for the "peaceful" space she has created to change drastically.
    Each one has qualities that, when taken to the extreme by their insecurities, can turn into their worst defects. God, I'm happy that you've reached the next two seasons because the journey that's coming is wild

    It's so low key that nobody mentions it, but after the school festival is over and Hachiman and Yukino are back in the club room, they both turn and _finally_ face each other. Huge. No longer looking away, no longer avoiding eye contact, the face each other and talk _to_ each other - and both look happy. They don't need an after-party. Their fireworks are going. off. right. here.
    This show's greatness is how those two are such true human beings - betraying their inner state through tiny acts like this that if you're not paying careful attention, you'll miss. Their dialog is so multi-level, layered with hidden meaning, it's like a rich flavor that must be savored and contemplated to get its full depth.

    I disagree with Hachiman wanting to help Sagami, he did what he did to protect Yukino's hard work. He said it himself that he could have gone about it in a simpler and nicer way, but he couldn't bring himself to do it because of how much of an asshole Sagami is. She wanted all of the clout with none of the responsibility and Hachiman couldn't let her off the hook.

    I agree with your conclusion about Hachiman at the end. He just doesn't realized it yet.
    But I just want to share my opinion about Hayama. Many liked him and thats fine. I know he seems like a good guy, but after watching this show for multiple times, I keep finding his selfishness more and more. And it shows more in the upcoming seasons.
    In this festival arc, you can tell that he only volunteer just for Yukino and for her alone. He doesn't plan to help anybody.
    In this episode, when he heard they need extra time, he asked Miura to sing again, even though she doesnt want to. But bcoz he knows Miura cant say no to him so he keep on insisting.
    In Sagami part, I know Hachiman went too far to his speech to her, but she needs to hear it. But I think what Hayama did to Hachiman is too much too and its weird. Why would he do that? Bcoz he wants to be seen as the one who helped Yukinon the most.
    I know this is not that convincing alone but if you combined this to what he did in Season 2, you guys can see how selfish he is

    • @murasame1450
      @murasame1450 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know, I don't see it as "selfishness" per se. From my perspective the show makes Hayama clearly out to be the polar opposite of Hachiman which he mentions himself in one of his inner monologues if I remember correctly. While polar opposites, they kind of have the same weakness though. Hachiman actually doesn't want to be the "bad guy" but his method to do things is to sacrifice himself and take a hit for others. Hayama is the opposite in that he is so popular that people can't or don't want to see if he acts "selfishly" or does something wrong. They will just forgive him cause of his charisma and aura of popularity. And I think that he, like Hachiman, struggles with that, because on one side he doesn't seem to have the courage to tell people what they need to hear like Hachiman can, cause that would not fit in with the image that people put on him to be the nice and popular guy. That also seems to put a strain on his mentality cause if he feels bad about manipulating Miura for example but nobody ever reprimands him for it, then you will develop guilt for your actions.

    • @danielbernardo2028
      @danielbernardo2028 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@murasame1450 Im trying to view your point and I really cant. I know you already finished this anime too and like I said there are others things that he do in other seasons thats shows his selfishness.
      Like what he did with Tobe. He doesnt respects Tobe's feelings, his own friend, just bcoz he doesnt want his "comfortable" place to be disturbed by his friends feelings. And then he asked Hachiman for another sacrfice just coz he doesnt want be seen as the bad guy. And after all that, he said that he felt bad for asking that favor BUT HE NEVER SAID "SORRY" EVEN ONCE to him. I dont know about you but that just so rude and selfish.
      You said people are just forcing him to that "image of perfect guy" but I say he also like it to be there thats why he never left there. He never did anything to get out of there
      Also about the thing about Muira, he did not look like he felt guilty there. He is actually look happy bcoz he got to help Yukinon.

      Hayama does whats expected of him thats his character as a whole. His attitude towards Yukinon is a product of guilt brought on by him not standing up for her when they were kids. This destroyed his relationship with her older sister who he was very close with. As for his view of Hachiman he both likes and hates him. Hachiman freely does what ever he wants and Hayama wishes he could be the same way. He went after Hachiman because he hates when he puts himself down that moment has nothing to do with Yukino. Hachiman is one of the few characters Hayama truly respects and because of this if Hachiman puts himself down its as though he drags Hayama down with him. Its the idea of having a worthy adversary.

    And that's exactly why I never liked Hayama because he sees Hikkigaya true self but still doesn't bother to help him genuinely and my last nail to the coffin was when he tries to use Hikkigaya to bridge a connection to Yukino just because he was nervous or couldn't get Yukino's attraction

    to be honest what hachiman did shows a lot about the world, where people seeks for truth and justice yet want sugarcoated lies to cover thier faults sometimes. Anddd yess hachiman is kind of a jerk as im the same too, we do want to help people but the way we know is always the harsh one...(being less expressive as its embarrassing to be lovey dovey and then we cringe on it later).

    Hayama "was" one of my worst character from this show. The way he just smacks hikki(to be seen as a prince infront of pick me girls) for helping a girl who doesnt deserves it but when Hikki was treated like shit by his so called friends and trashed talked he did ntg also with Yukino. He just spectated everything before but now he wants to be the "Good guy". Character like this are the worst. And i am a little mad at Alana for not understanding Hikki. But in later season he redeemed himself so i guess all's well that end's well
