Thanks for the upload! I was at this match when I was a bairn. I think I can even see myself jumping around and waving my arms behind the Gallowgate goal every time there is a corner, this game was on live tv which was pretty rare for Newcastle back in those days! Great memories, I used to love Dave McCreery in those days, no-nonsense , always gave everything and a really nice guy off the pitch. Beardsley, Roeder, Anderson, Wharton.. Toon legends of my generation

As a neutral I enjoyed this old First Division game. Im sure i will have watched it at the time. Just one caution for in the whole match! In the modern game there would have been at least four and a red card for Mcavennie for kicking Roeder in retaliation for the scissor challenge late on. Strange that the Ref didnt even give a free kick just awarded a thow in. Thing is the players just got on with the game when late challenges were flying in. Newcastle Full Back Anderson kept leaving his foot in every tackle but got away with it. That said, some interesting notes - the debut of Paul Ince who went on to great things. Peter Jackson looked solid at the back. Top man Jacko. I played in the local County League against his brother. Shame about the booing and monkey chants of the black West Ham players. That was a sign of those times that still needs improvement as we all know.
