Fun fact: Metropolis Street Racer and Project Gotham Racing are named such because the developers were big DC Comics fans: MSR for Superman's home town, and PGR for the main city in that comic with the guy with the pointy ears. What was his name again? Oh, yeah; Namor the Submariner! Wait....
Project Gotham 3 was years ahead of its time. He ruined one of my favorite game franchises as usual. The Dreamcast had that fighting game and thats it. i bought it at Toys R Us on day 1 with every game it launched with. it was powerful...but a complete failure with lack of games.
As a kid whose passion was cars, you do not understand how exciting that cover with the ferrari made me at about the age of 6. I loved this game so much
The Project Gotham Racing series is probably my favorite racing series. I still wish they made these games, there were awesome. Forza Horizon 1 & 2 is almost similar..
+Crossroads Reviews i heard that after Bizarre Creations broke some of their developers went to playground games and made forza horizon, same with split second
I use to play this game religiously and i think for an old game it was pretty amazing, i mean there weren't many game were every second mattered like you had to be very precise, it wasnt about street racing it was about track racing, it was such a great game i would still play this over most of my racing games, nowadays.
+MK2EA Also just to add i think for the time this had really good driving physics - cars had under and oversteer and each car had a different feel, like a very evident feel not just a little variation between cars. I'm just babbling now, but i loved this game haha..
The thing I liked about the PGR series was how it was a more arcade-like game especially when compared to Forza. Forza is fun, but it was nice to have the option of playing something with some levity to it. The games provided a good contrast between each other, much how we currently have the main Forza Number series and the Horizon series.
I used the last paycheck I received from a job during high school to buy the original Xbox. Then I used my income tax to buy a second controller and this game. Games like JSRF, Sega gt, Halo 2, KOTOR, Fable, Hitman, Max Payne, San Andreas. These games define my high school gaming years. Good times.
I played this so much as a kid that I memorized the AI routes on the NYC circuits and followed their lines perfectly. Just picked up another original Xbox, can't wait to have some time to dig into some games I haven't touched in 20 years
The second one included Geometry Wars as a mini game. I believe BC even wanted to release it as a free game in Arcade but were thwarted by MS' rules on game pricing.
9/10, Microsoft really need to reboot this series on the Xbox One, Forza is fantastic, no doubt about that but they would really do themselves a massive favour with another exclusive racing franchise! Get it done!
this is my favorite racing game of all time. everything about it is just incredible. it has this subtle arcade style and the sounds of the cars are strangely good. the settings of the tracks are really cool since they are in iconic cities. and for the time this game came out, the graphics and detail is very impressive. the driving style is more realistic compared to other games. also the music in it is awesome. it is a challenging game too, so it actually feels invigorating to unlock the faster cars because it takes so much effort.
Fun Fact: Project Gotham Racing was, like the name suggests, just the working title because they couldn´t use Metropolis Street Racing anymore because of Licence Issues. They ended up liking the name so much they they decided to just stick with it.
my favourite pgr loved the San Francisco tracks, and also the feel of the cars on different road surfaces such as gravel on one of the London tracks ,was addicted to it and completed the game.
"Classic Game Review"... I bought this game brand new when it first came out!! Way to make me feel old Classic Game Room. :-( Should probably take a nap now... playing cribbage this morning really took it out of me.
go check how old The Departed is. If you went to watch that movie when it came out, that's going to give you another wake up call that you're old....sigh well, the sun is starting to go down here, so I guess it's time for my even tea, a bath and off to bed.
Still very much love the original PGR, and break it out occasionally to try to best some of my track times around the cones. Also great being one of the first games that allowed me to race to my *own* *music* in custom soundtrack that played off of the XBOX HD.
One of my friends back in the day told me that when cruising in the game you would occasionally hear another car driving away and he told me to immediately turn around and I'd see a Dodge Viper speeding away, I wonder if its true
Metropolis Street Racer simulates the time you are playing very accurately (even simulating daylight seasonal changes) which the PGR series sadly lacks.
I own "Project Gotham Racing" on the original Xbox and it's one of my favorite Xbox games. The best part in this game (and it's sequel) is you can put your own custom soundtrack into the game, like music by Jan & Dean.
this is a comfort food of xbox driving games that feature real roads. I like Midnight Club 2 better, but ar least in PGR you don't get mouthed off at every race.
Project Gotham has better driving and handling than nfs hot pursuit 2010 most wanted 2012 rivals 2013 combined. I could include nfs 2015 but it is not out yet so I'll wait
Loved MSR, played till the end. Couldn't really get into PGR 1, but adored PGR 2, 3, 4. They really should bring this game back, its a huge shame Bizarre is no more, (now Lucid games who recently released Geometry Wars Dimensions), the company was amazing.
This game was tough as nails. I played as much as I could before I couldn't progress any further. I was more interested in arcade racers like Burnout (Takedown, Paradise, etc.) rather than hyper-realistic ones.
I could never get into this game or MSR - in general they looked great for the time - but something about the art style. I always felt like I couldn't quite see where I was going.
I really enjoyed this game, and was happy to see it move to xbox (or any console). However once MIdtown Madness 3 came out... I almost forgot about this title. =l Its still a must have though for any xbox collector.
I had so much fun with this game back when it was new. Loved the soundtrack and the racing to me was fun. PGR2 is even better! Not a simulator. More arcade in feel but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I got this classic game-unexpectedly free-when I bought an OG XB (along with two mint S controllers) at a thrift store for 10 bucks. It was just chillin’ in the disc drive. Made me appreciate the simpler times.
why didn't you just rip some of your own music to the hard drive and play it through the game? PGR was one of the first games on the Original Xbox that let you do that.
Why are you not capturing in widescreen? And don't give me that bullshit that the game isn;t widescreen , both the original xbox and this game support widescreen without any stretching.
I'm not sure how Batman would feel about them using the name Gotham. There is a lot of crime there already without lunatics driving crazy in sports cars. Who would win a fight between Lord Karnage and the caped crusader? I wonder.
Wait....
Wolverine? It's Wolverine right? Wait, no that's his cowl.
Oh, Nightcrawler. Nailed it.
Hmmm....
I'm waiting for project Atlantis racing, named after our lord and saviour; aquaman Jesus.the best hero evur.
Project Gotham 3 was years ahead of its time. He ruined one of my favorite game franchises as usual. The Dreamcast had that fighting game and thats it. i bought it at Toys R Us on day 1 with every game it launched with. it was powerful...but a complete failure with lack of games.
sawink So what you're saying is that it's Sonic?
Not buying it bro, he has pointy ears, but he lives in a forest, not a city :l
sawink The Dreamcast only failed on it's sales.
I miss PGR so much, Microsoft should reboot the series for the Xbox One.
Amazing how great an original XBOX game still looks.
Was kind of surprised how PRG2 looked on a flat panel tv with component cables, I purchased the game again last night.
This game is still amazingly fun and the driving is still really good. Those car models look like they are 5 years old not 14.

+MK2EA *face palm* just checked i had PGR 2 not 1 .... But 2 is amazing ! Please review that!
@@MK2EA Also PGR3 and PGR4
Shame they got shut down, Activision, what were they thinking.
Money, and milking COD franchise.
I remember playing this a couple of times on the original Xbox.
Played this so much for my XBOX, had a lot of fun with it.
I've had this game since 2005 but never really played it. I don't play racing games at all really. I think I will dig this out and give it a go
I got a MINI magazine that includes 2 demonstration videos from this game taking place in two areas of Tokyo.
This was one of my favorites back in the day!!
Awesome game. Metropolis Street Racre and Project Gotham Racing. Same company. It is sad that Bizarre is gone...
The thing I liked about the PGR series was how it was a more arcade-like game especially when compared to Forza. I still play this from time to time; as well as Sega GT 2002, and Midnight Club 3; Burnout Revenge was also good for the original Xbox.
The second one included Geometry Wars as a mini game. I believe BC even wanted to release it as a free game in Arcade but were thwarted by MS' rules on game pricing.

Whichever one they introduced motorcycles, that's the best PGR. Strangely it's the best motorcycle game I ever played...and it's mostly a car game.
Fun Fact: Project Gotham Racing was, like the name suggests, just the working title because they couldn´t use Metropolis Street Racing anymore because of Licence Issues. They ended up liking the name so much they they decided to just stick with it.
my favourite pgr loved the San Francisco tracks, and also the feel of the cars on different road surfaces such as gravel on one of the London tracks ,was addicted to it and completed the game.
sick graphics
+Maximillian Leet Really???
Played the hell outta this game back in the days. I was never able to beat the later levels with the insane fast sport cars.
4:27 Damn Mark, that was smooth!
This was the best racing game series I've played. I don't like racing games where the cars feel slippery and floaty.
I still have the demo for this game. It came with an issue of Xbox Magazine
still waiting for this to be released for Vectrex .
"Classic Game Review"... I bought this game brand new when it first came out!!
Way to make me feel old Classic Game Room. :-(

Your videos are awesome you make my day so much happier Mark :D
First game I played on the XBOX, man how the years have passed! great game
Where's the Batmobile
I'm a veteran from the Project Gotham Racing Series.
RIP Bizarre Creations.
The "this game doesn't fit into this thing"-joke never gets old.
I'd like to put Zillah WA on the map. mister, where can I send it to? thank your for the great videos
Thanks Mark for reviewing it! :D
Still very much love the original PGR, and break it out occasionally to try to best some of my track times around the cones.
Also great being one of the first games that allowed me to race to my *own* *music* in custom soundtrack that played off of the XBOX HD.
love that game since I was a kid
One of my friends back in the day told me that when cruising in the game you would occasionally hear another car driving away and he told me to immediately turn around and I'd see a Dodge Viper speeding away, I wonder if its true
Metropolis Street Racer simulates the time you are playing very accurately (even simulating daylight seasonal changes) which the PGR series sadly lacks.
I need to start replaying this game...
I own "Project Gotham Racing" on the original Xbox and it's one of my favorite Xbox games. The best part in this game (and it's sequel) is you can put your own custom soundtrack into the game, like music by Jan & Dean.
I like the instant replay on this. good game I have a couple on my channel. thanks for sharing
The first and best game in the series,Played this tonight after 13 years of not playing ,and got straight back into it.
Lord karnage can you review the game on the computer super Mario crossover
this is a comfort food of xbox driving games that feature real roads. I like Midnight Club 2 better, but ar least in PGR you don't get mouthed off at every race.
i remember when this was shown of at e3, best e3 years
i remember this game, had loads of fun with it
God how I miss this game
I remember this being a big online game, they still playing this online?
+ClutchKman No lol
I loved the Gotham series, wish they continued on.
my local second hand store has this and PGR2 for $1AUD each. Should I get them both ?
I had this game came with a bunch of game demos
Gotham or Forza, is like asking if you prefer Ridge Racer or Gran Turismo.
I got a other racing game called Sega gt 2002 with JSRF on XBOX
*I got them free with my XBOX unit!*
you should do Burnout 3 or Revenge next!!
Project Gotham has better driving and handling than nfs hot pursuit 2010 most wanted 2012 rivals 2013 combined. I could include nfs 2015 but it is not out yet so I'll wait
really enjoyed this game, but forgot about the framerate. looks not so good...
Loved MSR, played till the end. Couldn't really get into PGR 1, but adored PGR 2, 3, 4. They really should bring this game back, its a huge shame Bizarre is no more, (now Lucid games who recently released Geometry Wars Dimensions), the company was amazing.
MSR is my fave racing game.
_Metropolis Street Racer_ is on the Dreamcast.
'Nuff said
I just got MSR and it's OK game but I can't say I like the Kudos system
This game was tough as nails. I played as much as I could before I couldn't progress any further. I was more interested in arcade racers like Burnout (Takedown, Paradise, etc.) rather than hyper-realistic ones.
Does this game have kudos?
I love this game, I spent so many hours online.
any relation to batman????
MSR / PGR they should release PGR 5 or MSR 2 for the DC2!
I could never get into this game or MSR - in general they looked great for the time - but something about the art style. I always felt like I couldn't quite see where I was going.
Deep fried Kudos (the granola bar).....mmmmmmm. Makes me hungry.
BEST TH-camR SINCE DAY ONE
😎😎😎😎😎👌👌👌👌👌👌
Checked the cgr review for Metropolis street racer and it seems like a far better game! I loved PGR3 also :)
boutta eat some kudos, hell yeahhhh
funny how they named them after Dc comic citys.
I really enjoyed this game, and was happy to see it move to xbox (or any console).
However once MIdtown Madness 3 came out... I almost forgot about this title. =l
Its still a must have though for any xbox collector.

why didn't you just rip some of your own music to the hard drive and play it through the game? PGR was one of the first games on the Original Xbox that let you do that.
Do more n64 racing games
A friend of mine's ex girlfriend had Kudos. WAIT....no....those were cooties. NEVERMIND!
Me pregunto que dirá, no se inglés
*In* *that* *year* *2001* *was* *far* *better* *play* *Gran* *Turismo* *3* *:D*
+4EverUpliftingTranceArts That's what I was doing in 2001!
Why are you not capturing in widescreen?
And don't give me that bullshit that the game isn;t widescreen , both the original xbox and this game support widescreen without any stretching.
"For the first Xbox?" "The Xbox One?" " No, no, the Xbox Original" "Oh the Xbox, one" "Yup"
You rock Lord K
upcoming sequels includes:
keystone city racing
krypton hovercar racing
bludhaven street racing
atlantean submarine racing
Awesome! :)
From the name I thought it was a batman spinoff :P
this was a great game and a great franchise, pity it got so into the kudos system later on
nosliw - cheat code for this game lol unlocks everything
I did that and i unlocked all the cars.
This is the game that made me want a Xbox.
European version does not work on the 360, because the European backwards compatibility was worse than the NTSC version...
It looks quite nice, but the game seems to run kind of slow, eh?
Awesome😈
I'm not sure how Batman would feel about them using the name Gotham. There is a lot of crime there already without lunatics driving crazy in sports cars. Who would win a fight between Lord Karnage and the caped crusader? I wonder.
Keeeper gooooin lord carnage is awesome
PGR 2 Online still is one of the best games on the Original XBox.
MSR 1.1
