Wanted to see this Man land that even more than I wanted to land my first kickflip. So stoked to see him back on his board again! The Godfather of Vert!!! Much love and total respect Mr. Hawk.
Dude you are PTSDing to the max. And I can understand that. I broke the navicular in my left foot downhill skateboarding over 10 years ago. I had PTSD over that for many years. Even now if I think about it, while being in "tune with the moment" I can relive the injury as it happened. I haven't been able to skate the same ever since.
I think the feeling of NOT being able to do the thing that has come as naturally as breathing to you your whole life, is one of the most crushing and daunting experiences one can face. I'm not much of a skater but I am a professional singer, and even getting sick and losing my vocal control or range for a month can sling me right into depression faster than you can say "Do a kick-flip". I can't imagine doing this video was anywhere close to "fun" for TH but it shows an incredible amount of resilience and strength and is a glorious F.U. to this entropic forces of nature and law of physics TH has been dominating for decades. Nothing but absolute love and respect for that guy.
I skated street from 10 years old till about 45. One head injury made me decide to hang it up. I know how hard it is to keep pushing past when your body wants to cooperate like it used to. Kudos to you sir if you plan to keep it up. You don't owe anything to anyone and you certainly have proven to yourself and to the rest of us that you are a legend.
You could tell how nervous he was trying this. It doesn't matter your level in skateboarding it's about overcoming your challenges and sticking it. Good on you Tony!!
I recently sprained my ankle skating and was bummed about not being able to skate and having to get back into it. But after seeing Tony's old ass get back into it like this, really makes me not wanna be a bitch and just get back on the board haha Thanks for STILL inspiring me to skate Mr. Hawk...
Took me back to watching him land the first 900 at the X games. The anticipation and the excitement when he finally made it. Great video. Hope the recovery continues to go well.
Tony, you can let it go brother. The inspiration you brought to a generation is unreal. Im a 14 year veteran and i spend my 30 days of leave a year trying to land kick flips with my younger brother. The joy you brought us as kids can never be expressed. Thank you for the video games, and the lesson that quitters never win and winners never quit.
This video is what brings humility to us the audience and allows us to connect in a different way to you Tony Hawk. I feel like you are human, and even I can or could do this now. The videos showing the hard work and commitment is humiliating and its refreshing for the audience to understand this FACT. Skateboarding is hard. Because otherwise it looks easy and everything lands and you never hurt yourself and why use pads?? Well its because you do get hurt and that is the commitment. Cheers!!!
I watched this with the same enthusiasm as I did when I was 18 and saw the 1st 900. I was rooting for it the exact same way. Tony Hawk, the man, the myth, the legend…did a kick flip.
A strange sensation, watching one of the greatest, most influential skaters our generation, re-learn the most fundamental trick in skating. Its humbling and Inspiring to see him show this level of Grit! Tony showed us we could really do what we wanted and make a career out of it if we pursued it with wreaklace abandon and committed fully to our craft!
Congrats Tony on the 1st Kickflip after you broke your bone in half! You still motivate to skate everytime I see you still going!! I pray for your health and more footage to come ❤
I feel Tony's pain a 100%. I broke my femur when I was 9 from BMX. I was also a kater at the time and fortunately as kids we can bounce back from those type of injuries. I was back on a board in 6 months but it wasn't easy. Now I'm 39 and haven't skated in many years and just last Friday decided to get back into it as I pass the skatepark of tampa everyday to and from work now. It's Sunday and I'm now feeling the pain through my whole entire body yet I'm not going to let that stop me. It's like being a kid learning how to skate all over again. I hope Tony stays in it to get back into shape and be happy again as skateboarding is a way to get a way to get our minds away from the stressful things in life.
Tony, you're the man no matter what decade or however old you get. I hope you know that and no injury will ever define you. You are skateboarding and everything that is good about the sport, whether you land it or not you're my hero dude.
Thanks Birdman, not just for this inspirational video but all that you’ve done for action sports! I’m 51, and in the last 2 years I’ve had compartment syndrome surgery on the same leg twice, grade 2 pcl tear and 6 weeks ago broke my collarbone in 3 places. So I really needed to see this video today. Thanks for making it Tony, and hope you get back to as close as normal as you can with your leg.
That is why he is not only a legend but an inspiration I mean he has more then enough money he would not need to to it He just do it because its his passion He shattered his bone he was really terrified of doing that kickflip but he did try it anyway he faced his fears rather then let the fear take hold of him Childhood hero of mine and he is still a hero to me because he never accept defeat he shows us true courage face your fears and overcome them dont let you get discouraged just keep at it at some point you will archive your goals never give up
Man is the definition of discipline. You'll ALWAYS be the GOAT! That feeling of landing kickflip is just as special as a kid as it is as an adult. Much love for making us old skaters feel young again.
Tony if you read this, you don't have to do this for us! Let your leg heal, let it recover. You don't have to prove anything to us, you'll always be a legend to us!
Tony will always be a legend no matter if he can’t 900 or even kick flip anymore. This dude got me into skating and gave me the appreciation of how tough the sport is and how many hours went into learning even the most “simple” of tricks. Not to mention the hours and hours I spent playing with him on his video game on the PlayStation.. Tony Hawks pro skater in the warehouse level baby!!
@Greglinski everything he posts is gonna get monetized and he hosts competitions plus his games so obviously his career won't be over anytime soon. Why would he need to compete 🤣 I only said that bc people kept saying thus was his career ending injury and I knew that was not gonna happen
Getting back from an injury can be so mentally challenging. I got flashes of all the feelings I've had when trying to get back. Keep it up, the only way is forward.
Coming back from a bail like that terrifying not just from a physical perspective but mentally as well. The fear of bailing again is real and eats away at you. Any skater, rollerblader, bmx'er etc. will tell you though, the only way to overcome that fear is to tackle it head on. people see the crazy stuff we do and think "they have no fear", no we're still as afraid of doing crazy things as the first time we dropped in on a ramp. we just don't let the fear control us.
Total respect for showing fear and insecurity. He has nothing left to prove and yet he's out there at 54 years old still being the legend that he's always been. Props to you legend.
I’m 46 and when we were growing up skateboarding was everything, this guy was our hero and we wasn’t that dissimilar in age, this was way before the video games came out, we used to watch VHS tapes with him and loads of others, top guy
I tumbled for years and ended my career by breaking my ankle in multple spots, I can empathize completely with this situation. Your so terrified of the pain and the possibility of hurting yourself again. You have no trust in yourself it’s insane. I feel anxious just watching this and love that you show your real struggle with this.
This just made me shed a tear. "Occupation: Skateboarder" was the first book I ever read, on the backseat of our family camper on a road trip through southern Europe. And here I am now: A 32-year old dude who is only now realising how much of an influence you've had on me. Why am I crying? Maybe it’s because I learned from you that greatness comes from overcoming obstacles, again and again. That pushing yourself for the things you value is what gets you further in life. That success, ultimately, is not the money you make, but to be able to continue doing what you love. Thank you, Tony. You inspired millions. 🖤
I think this might be one of the most impressive videos I've ever seen of Tony Hawk. He completely showed his weakness and fear, and worked through it right in front of the camera. Anyone wondering, that is why this man is a LEGEND. You could hear the fear in his breathing, yet he pushed through and kept trying!
I haven't been on a board in 30 years, skated from age 9 to 18 and his scream at the end, I could feel and reminded me of that feeling! The feeling of trying something over and over and over until you stick it! I think every kid should begin life skating because that attitude, at least for me, you never lose. I have failed at many things in my life, but keep trying and I believe that came from skating as a youth. Some of the best times in my life!
To go back out on a board after an injury like that which pumps fear into the mind.. AND to do at almost the exact spot where the injury happened.. it is the quickest way to get over it, but man.. This level of respect i'm feeling right now is way beyond my understanding.

Dude is 54 coming back from an injury that bad, forever a legend!! The skateboarding GOAT!
Being 50 myself, this was awesome to watch! Thanks for always being real, Tony!
Wanted to see this Man land that even more than I wanted to land my first kickflip. So stoked to see him back on his board again! The Godfather of Vert!!!
Much love and total respect Mr. Hawk.
Mad respect. 54 & still killing it! Bet you never thought you’d still be shredding at this age like 30-35 years ago 🫢
More like shedding
Love the passion and determination
I don’t even skateboard but he is a hero of mine
Tony you will always be my number one hero regardless of what happens, we love you!
The smile followed by, “This is Skateboarding.” Says it all! Legend!
Dude is such a humble person, it is genuinely inspiring to watch a skateboarding legend relearn this move and share it with us.
I recently sprained my ankle skating and was bummed about not being able to skate and having to get back into it.
But after seeing Tony's old ass get back into it like this, really makes me not wanna be a bitch and just get back on the board haha
Thanks for STILL inspiring me to skate Mr. Hawk...
That's my first and middle name!
Took me back to watching him land the first 900 at the X games. The anticipation and the excitement when he finally made it. Great video. Hope the recovery continues to go well.
This clip with some good music and Tony’s voice over could be a great ‘positive affirmation’ video.
Mad props for our skater idol 👏🏼
Cheers!!!
Absolute ledgend! If he can do it with a huge injury, theres nothing stopping anyone from being able to. Total inspiration
Seeing my hero like this is heartbreaking. Yet even when his body is failing him he still perseveres! That is why he is STILL my hero!
Kinda hurts to see him like that and yet, him landing his kickflip got me hyped like it was a 900. This man is a legend till this day
I watched this with the same enthusiasm as I did when I was 18 and saw the 1st 900.
I can’t believe I didn’t even know about his injury but this video was really inspiring. He never gave up!
Congrats Tony on the 1st Kickflip after you broke your bone in half! You still motivate to skate everytime I see you still going!! I pray for your health and more footage to come ❤
Total legend!
Tony is a legend! Great job man I cheered when he landed the kickflip. 🎉
That is why he is not only a legend but an inspiration
I mean he has more then enough money he would not need to to it
He just do it because its his passion
He shattered his bone he was really terrified of doing that kickflip but he did try it anyway he faced his fears
rather then let the fear take hold of him
Childhood hero of mine and he is still a hero to me because he never accept defeat
he shows us true courage
face your fears and overcome them dont let you get discouraged just keep at it
at some point you will archive your goals
never give up
Man is the definition of discipline. You'll ALWAYS be the GOAT! That feeling of landing kickflip is just as special as a kid as it is as an adult. Much love for making us old skaters feel young again.
That almost made me cry. But when he finally did it I was so happy. Always fight! Don't give up!
Tony if you read this, you don't have to do this for us! Let your leg heal, let it recover. You don't have to prove anything to us, you'll always be a legend to us!
This guy was my hero as a kid. Watching him struggle and keep pushing through was really inspiring! Still love ya Tony! 🎉
Man will never stop giving us lessons. Thanks Tony.
This means the world to watch you fight and win Tony. Thank you so much for the encouragement!!
Yes Tony, I knew your career wasn't over. This made my day you're a legend 🤯 keep your head up man and thanks for the inspiration 🙏
@Greglinski everything he posts is gonna get monetized and he hosts competitions plus his games so obviously his career won't be over anytime soon. Why would he need to compete 🤣 I only said that bc people kept saying thus was his career ending injury and I knew that was not gonna happen
Get Donovan out there, he’ll have Tony doing bigspins in no time.
Легенда, я рад, что живу в одном веке с такими ребятакми как Тони!
У тебя все получится!
He needs some random person to just yell "do a kickflip" at him
proud of you tony. no idea you broke your leg so bad man. you're a champion for getting back on it. legend.
Really impressed with your dedication to recovery from an injury. Anyone who has been injured before can relate.
Total respect for showing fear and insecurity. He has nothing left to prove and yet he's out there at 54 years old still being the legend that he's always been. Props to you legend.
this brought me the same joy as the day i watched him land his first 900. Thank you for this. We love you Tony!
