    This is delightful content as always, Maria! Congrats on finding a place in Paris! I spent 18 months living in a small village just outside of Paris and spent endless days and weekends wandering around the city, talking crooked French, drinking coffee, writing, falling in and out of love with every second stranger, and spending obscene amounts of money in my favourite bookshops. Good memories.

    An "Ordinary Day" you say in your title. Part of why I love your films is that the way you approach everything, even sitting there with watermelon, I don't know what it is, the shape of the slice, the cutting board, the peaceful focus of just eating and not doing fifty things while you eat, the kettle behind you and the shapes of the cabinets and the whole framing of it all...but its every shot and action you choose to capture...you have a way of infusing the ordinary with more. It's a lesson we may pull from many authors, Walker Percy in Moviegoer, Proust I daresay and many more, the idea that a life well lived is recognizing the extraordinary in the ordinary. I get that from your videos. Certainly from this one today. Loved it. Paris in five weeks! I was watching the Olympics this morning - a cycling race through the streets of Paris. Oh the cobblestones, the architecture, the gardens, the arches, the narrow streets and the wide avenues...you are in for a tremendous few months. I am excited for you to experience it all and excited for us to see how it manifests on this channel!

    Solid Bernhard impression.
    Good luck learning French again. I'm about B2 and that didn't seem too fast. I feel like there's little balance in resources between French teaching that speak like you're a child and French speaking that would treat you like someone who knows the language. It's good the EU offers those resources. I've found not integrating yourself with actual live French speakers to be a huge detriment when you're only using books/computer.

    It's good you're learning French and a trip to Paris. I also learned French but till A2 level. Now I am learning Swedish A1 level since I have plans to study in Sweden but meanwhile learning the Swedish language on Duolingo since my region doesn't have Swedish language courses. I feel French was easy to grasp compared to Swedish. I took IELTS since English is not my native language and my English level is B2.

    Lovely video as usual! I look forward to following your journey in France! I wish I could go back to University and study literature but it's just too expensive to do that here in the US without special grants and a free place to stay.

    Very cosy video 😊 I wanted to ask: When you film outdoors, do you bring your camera, or do you use your phone? I'm planning a video where I visit a few bookstores and wanted to get your advice.
    Thanks!
    P.S. If it helps motivate you, every French study session brings you one step closer to reading Proust in the original!

    • @strange.lucidity
      @strange.lucidity  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Aw thanks so much! I usually do a mix. The shots in the bookstore are from my phone (I have an iphone 12 mini) - you can see the shots aren't as clear as the ones from the streets, branches, bikes, etc. I try to use my camera as much as I can but I try not to be rigid and perfectionistic about it. In some situations the phone is just easier and phone cameras are so good these days. Also whenever I talk to the camera it's just on my phone. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Looking forward to the vlog :-)

    Pour te pratiquer il y a toujours des belles versions de Du côté de chez Swann en livre audio. Parfois y-aller avec un livre qu'on connait bien, ça aide la chose. Sinon je te conseille l'émission "On n'est pas couché" - non seulement pour le français, mais pour t'inoculer contre la forte tendance polémiste des français, hahaha.

    I can sympathize with your situation Maria. Studying at the tertiary level let's be real, is not a dock walk by any stretch, regardless of whether it is an arts, social sciences or STEM field. Literature courses will inevitably include books that are not typically your cup of tea for being dense, verbose, impenetrable-- that's perfectly normal. Important to remember you aren't there to enjoy yourself bohemian style and have a good time (though those things have a place for wellness sake). I somehow suspect that if you put off the excessive pastime readings (books that aren't part of your university curriculum and there are many) and minimize the time you take to make TH-cam videos, you would be able to tackle essay assignments like the one you alluded to in the video on Thomas Bernard. Procrastination need not be a problem, it is a question of what TAKES PRIORITY. Good luck with your Parisian language lessons. That ought to be interesting🙏👍
