    Excellent video! I've been using the Kenti batteries in my X-Sight II 3-14x. I didn't know about the buck circuit in these batteries, and it makes them the top choice. The real test for any of these batteries is what do the batteries put out under load? Put a resistor, say, 20 ohms, across the battery terminals and then measure output voltage. With the buck circuit regulating output, it is obvious the Kentlis would operate well in these sights. And you need to use Kentli's charger only. Each type of battery, NiCad (unusable here), NiMH, and there are several types of LIthiums, are different batter chemistries, and each has different charging requirements. You can't use just any old AA charger. That said, I just ordered the buttstock battery pack setup from you. I'll keep the Kentlis for backup.

    Great review. I've got Kentli and you have done a great job explaining why its so important to maintain that voltage rather than worry about mAh rating. Those eneloop pros would also drop their voltage real quick if you left them in a draw for a couple of months before putting them in your scope and would be flat in no time. The other important thing about Kentli is that they don't loose much charge when the temperature drops. NiMh is very bad and you can go from full to flat in less than half an hour when the temperature drops. LiOn all the way and the Kentli is the best alternative.

    Your "straight out of the box alkaline throw away battery" tested only 1.356 v. Those batteries you have must already be old or partially discharged. I get 1.37 volts on an used Duracell I pulled out of a game camera after several months in the woods. Every brand new AA battery I have ever tested (Duracell or Energizer) has always tested right at 1.6 v or slightly above . The last 24 pack I just picked up at Wally World tests 1.629 v.
    That said, I can totally believe they will not last long in high drain applications, like the ATN X series scopes.
    Plus, they due occasionally leak. Bad choice for expensive electronics. I use them in home brew external battery packs.
    Thank you for the info on the Kentli batteries! I am gong to give them a try.
    Good video. Thumbs up!
    Edit: Forgot to add, If anyone wants more info on the Kentli batteries, Query "Performance analysis/review of Kentli PH5 Li-ion 1.5V AA battery" He rips it apart to see what is inside :)
    Edit 2: i just pulled 2 Amazon Basic AA Alkaline batteries from a milk frother that just quit working. Curious, since it should have run longer on a set of batteries. One tested 1.349 v, the other tested 1.051 v.

    Excellent! Finally the question: What is the voltage output of the ATN external power pack has been answered, 5.0. I also understand the X-sight II has two separate voltage regulators built in, one for the four AA cells and another for the external power port. I'm going to order the iKit power bank with Smart IC output technology made by Panasonic.

    I've tried NiZN batteries.. They 1.6 ~ 1.8V. So I trying them for my own risk because total voltage = up to 3.6V instead of 3.0V. NiZN have one advntage -- if dischardged lower than 1.1V and my X-Sight going OFF, batteries restores 1.6V in 1-2 minutes and if nessesary I can power ON X-Sight again... but after 30-60 sec. sight switching off again. sometimes it's enough to make 1 accurate shot.
    Now I uses last NiZn battery for my little daughter toy and ordered Kentli 8xcells + chardger. NiZn have 3 times lower price but I'm not shured ATN have a power stabiliser for battery bay like for micro-USB. Don't want to brick my sight, it is very expensive in my country! =)

      I began testing a set of 2800 mWh NiZn AA 1.6V batteries. So far so good, I see no reason that they shouldn't continue to work well. The full start voltage was about the same as the Energizer Ultimate Lithium disposables (Aprox. 1.83V 3.66V Total) I have tested the Energizers that exceeded 1.85V out of the package, I believe the scope will shunt itself if AA input voltage exceeds 4.1-4.2V total. These don't appear to be capable of that, however, I will be checking them after every charge. I tested this almost 2 years ago on an X-Sight 1 using a variable direct power supply. I started it around 3.0 and increased the voltage until the amps began to climb. It actually ran the most optimally from 3.2-3.7V above or below that the amps begin to climb. After the first 4hrs run time, I am still at aprox. 1.56V I will continue testing them and let you know what I find, thanks for the recommendation. I am guessing they will operate it at least 5 hours, pretty good considering the cost.

      The NiZn batteries don't perform nearly as well as the Kentli's. They do perform better than NiMh, however I remain a fan of the Kentli.

    First thanks for the explanation, but I have a doubt, knowing that the set's voltage is 3v can i use external battery with voltage 5 for example? Or doind that will burn my xsightII circuit? What would happen?
    Other question, using a external battery does matter the amperage and the Wh?
    Thank very much from Brazil and forgive my poor English.

      Carlos Silva You can use both the 5v micro usb input external battery pack and internal power at the same time. The 5V external will be the primary power and the AA port will act as a secondary UPS power source when running both. You can also run either independently. (AA alone or external alone.) I don't believe there is a minimum mAh rating required for the pack, however I would recommend a minimum of a 1 amp output port. (I don't know if you can even get one below this. ) I personally like the easy acc 10000 mAh and about any of the Anker packs.

      Fox Optic Ok i understood. I bought a external battery but here we can find just Chinese models and its durability is very short even the 10.000mah, I will try to Import the Anker battery pack from USA. Thank you very much again and I really appreciate your videos.

    I have question please :
    I only found kentli 1.50v with 3000 mah not 2800 , is that ok with xsight 2 ?
    and if i'm using at the same time 4 aa eneloop 1.2v 1900 mah , 2 for + and 2 for - , is that may damage my unit ?
    thank you

    • @foxoptic5887

      Yes, The 3000 mAh is the newest version, they replaced the 2800

    • @foxoptic5887
      @foxoptic5887  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Enloop should not damage your unit, however they won't provide enough voltage when they start to drain and will not last as long as the Kentli in this particular device.

    • @foxoptic5887

      If it turned on, you probably burned it up. The X-Sight runs + and - in series, one or two positive and one or two negative (Trying to produce and liking 3.6-2.8V total or so). I didn't think it would even power on with voltage above about 4.2V. Running 14500's on both sides would produce up to 8.4V total instead.

      @@farestrajano1977 I am still amazed yours started, I tested this pretty thoroughly once with a DC input and when I exceeded 4.2V on the initial start, it wouldn't even allow it to start. The only way I could exceed 4.2, was to start below 4.2V and ramp voltage past it once it was running, at which point,I was also monitoring amps and they started to increase significantly at a point, I was afraid of burning it up, so I cut V back. I also ran 2 14500's one time but I used them in parallel only with dummies on the opposite side. This however produced very low capacitance and I don't recommend it. For X-Sight or X-Sight II the Kentli's are the way to go.

    Can I use 14500 3.7v battery with xsight ii

    • @foxoptic5887
      @foxoptic5887  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the input voltage would be to high,. You have to series a minimum of 2 batteries to complete the circuit and the input would be over 8 volts on a 14500.

    Can I use rechargeable batteries in it and at the same time use a external battery pack?? Or will it burn the unit out?

    • @foxoptic5887
      @foxoptic5887  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toby Carrie If you use both in combination the sight should default power to the external battery back and use the internal AA batteries as a backup (UPS) power source. It will not damage the unit to run both, however, I don't recommend leaving the AA'S in the bay for long periods of time when not in use. They could leak and cause damage.
