Millennial here, but hung out a lot with Gen X as a kid. I assume by "skeptical," the vid is referring to X's legendary irreverence and sarcasm, which I always loved and still love. It's a real anomaly. No other generation has it that fine-tuned. Their comedians and comedy writers are beasts.
Gen X is also sometimes referred to as the "MTV Generation", just as Gen Z is often referred to as the "iGen". Older ones of the Greatest Generation are often referred to as the Interbellum Generation (came of age during the Roaring 1920s). Those on the cusp of X and Millennials are often referred to as "Xennials" and those on the cusp of Millennials and Z are often referred to as "Zillennials".
The term "greatest generation" was popularized by Tom Brokaw (a famous retired news anchor here in the U.S.) and his 1998 book. It refers mainly to those who grew up in the great depression then fought in WW2.
I agree it's too early to characterize Alpha because they haven't yet been shaped by their collective life experiences or world events. The items on their list aren't even things they've actually engaged with. Let them live a while before slapping a label on them.
@@kimpossible2272 13 is still a baby, barely an adolescent. That's too young to be characterized. In the next few years we could get bombed, make startling advancements with AI, experience the assassination of a major political figure, have the financial system collapse and enter a depression... Those kinds of collective experiences help shape a generation. The person you are at 13 is probably very different from the person you'll be at 25.
@you_can_call_me_T I know but they still have main characteristics that won't change (the trauma and development comes later)... and apparently they are old enough for their own slang and memes
@@kimpossible2272 Slang and memes are not identity. Those are means of communication and expression that are not unique to the current children. And no, their development is actually happening now and will continue. We simply do not know who these kids will be. We can guess, but that's all we can do. They haven't lived enough to be labeled. Your brain doesn't even fully develop until about 25 years old. (And just a fun fact-- the last part of your brain to completely develop is the prefrontal cortex, the part that manages decision making, expression of personality, and social interactions.) Also, the oldest of them are 13, but the youngest are infants. Slang, social media, fashion, music, etc will change a lot by the time they are teenagers. That's why it's the big common experiences that mark a generation. I do suspect that as the world continues to change more and more rapidly, they will need to shorten the generations due to wildly varied experiences within a shorter timeframe. For example, they say millennials were born between 1980 and 1996. But I was born in 83 and my childhood and young adult years were NOTHING like someone born in 96. I didn't have a cell phone until I was 20 and it was only for emergencies. I was in my 20s when Facebook came out. I was in college on 9/11. Someone born in 96 grew up with social media, probably had a cell phone as a teenager, and doesn't remember much about what America was like before 9/11 (it was different). I guess my point is that the labeling system is increasingly flawed, but at the very least we should wait for the kids to grow up before categorizing them.
Actually they are not the WWI Generation, just WWII. This video left out the first of the 20th Century which was "Lost Generation" (and the oldest of the Greatest Generation are sometimes referred to as the "Interbellum Generation", as they came of age between the two world wars).

I believe the biggest problem is in the politics area, younger generations can’t change anything right now because somehow the high government positions are held and by people who would normally be considered unfit to work because of their age
Again, demographers prove their ignorance by ignoring the Cusp Generation. Anyone I would need to explain that to, must first go back and finish third grade.
One thing I will tell you is Baby Boomers are not afraid of work. We grew up, many on farms and were taught to work. If my dad was alive today he would be 108 years old, and I remember always saying I hate a lazy SOB. He would go crazy on young people today. I am now 70, and I can still work circles around young guys. Maybe they are proud of being lazy. If they can't park their butt and work on a computer, they are done. @@BanterSage Right on. And if you sat this guy down to "work on a computer" which is what most careers require now, he would fail miserably. Now employers such as landscape contractors bring in Mexicans for the summer because they cannot find young Americans who are willing to do that type of work, sad.
No what I am saying is there are many jobs that require you to do physical labor, and there are very few young people willing to do these jobs. My brother is a contractor and he has a very hard time finding laborers these days. Forced to bring in seasonal workers every summer. There was a time in America when this was not the case. Before it was called Gen X it was called the Baby Buster Generation due to the lower birth rate. You'll never hear me refer to myself as Gen X. Dave from Ohio
And another name for millennials is Echo boomers because of being the offspring of baby boomers and where the birth rates increased significantly as well.
The Silent Generation mostly (lead by Greatest Gen) fought the Korean War. Boomers and older silents were in Vietnam. Completely grossed over Gulf War and Afghanistan Wars.
Doraemon is Japanese. I'm surprised it made the list. I was hoping Inspector Gadget or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would make the cartoon list but I'm happy with the other two. I like anime but I thought if a anime was mentioned it would be Dragon Ball Z for millennials.
I thought for sure they’d include Pokemon. Doraemon does make sense, but only in Japan so yeah not sure why they included it. I personally think it’s really cute and I have some shirts and stuff but no one ever knows what it is unless they like anime.
"Silent generation" here although, having been born in 1945, I identify as a "Baby Boomer although according to this maybe I shouldn't have since the stuff they associated with the Silent Generation seems more familiar to me. The JFK assassination, moon landing and Vietnam all especially related. JFK was killed about 2 months after I started college and I remember how I learned about it and how the campus reacted even still. Since I was in school in Baltimore, Washington was a short train ride away and my friends and I took the train to the funeral. Then I remember very well watching the moon landing on TV. My family and another family that were good friends all got together for it. And finally Vietnam: Classmates were drafted and killed there. I avoided that fate because I went to medical school and didn't enter the military until 1973 when the war was all but over.
Early Baby boomer here. JFK's assassination definitely affected me, big time! The landing on the moon was so exciting for me. The Vietnam War was a very sad time for me. Most of the boys I knew were in that war. All came home but would never be the same. My husband was a Vietnam Vet and ended up committing suicide. He tried so hard but suicide was his only answer.
You've never heard of the Great Generation? They are the gen that fought in WWII, that's why. And Taylor Swift and Beyonce are definitely millennial idols, c'mon. and Lisa is K-pop. And you don't know Felix the Cat? Jc, I feel old. But us millennials did have the best cartoons, no argument.
Jungkook is from the kpop group BTS Lisa is i’m going to assume is from the kpop group Black Pink. And fun fact: Millennials are also called “Echo Boomers” because of being the offspring of baby boomers and where the birth rates increased significantly again.
As a younger Gen Xer born in 79 I think the older millennials are pretty cool. Younger ones though are kinda weird with their memes. I don't understand why they're so popular when character catchphrases are so much better. Gen Z isn't bad either. A lot of Gen Xers are raising Gen Z and we're pretty cool so Gen Z is inheriting our coolness. Plus both our generations know what it's like to be smaller than the generation before us. Am I the only one who doesn't know what FJB stands for? I hate all these abbreviations online. Why can't people just type words so everyone can understand what's being said?
A bit dubious.. I expect the great generation is called that probably because the were growing up in the Era of "The Great War" WWI. Personally I think the generation divides are just a way to stir up strife, really its artificial because if you fall between or at the edges its not representative. For my generation Star wars figures, He Man and Transformers were the top toys and the latter 2 most popular cartoons Doreamon is a Japanese cartoon we certainly didnt get here, the Idols were obvious going off american trends Freddie Mercury, would have been on the list,
The years that define generations aren't an exact science, and there's some disagreement on the years. For example, I was born in late 1980, but grew up in the Millennial camp. Since some people say Millennials start anywhere between 1977-1982, I just call myself a Millennial - although I'm about as old as they get. Also, you were right about the music for Millennials. I think maybe younger Millennials would have chosen those, but I would have gone with something like Green Day, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, etc.
Nope, millennials (Gen Y) are 1981-1996. 1980 and before that year would be Gen x. The oldest millennial as of 2023 would be 42yo and the youngest would be 27yo. Because i’m a millennial born in 1989. So i’m in the middle of the millennial generation. Because if millennials were born in the 70’s-early 80’s, that would make us who are in our late 20’s- early 40’s Gen Z, which is completely off. Because the oldest gen z would be some years out of college to still being as young as late elementary school.
Yeah, they definitely aren't a science. I was born in 83 and the only "label" I can really identify with is Xennial-- those of us born in the late 70s and early 80s. We had an analog childhood and digital adulthood, so kind of the best of both worlds. Some people call it the Oregon Trail generation. Iykyk lol. I appreciate that separation, because the world changed to much so quickly that I had a completely different experience growing than someone born in 1990.
I never heard of the Silent Generation (maybe because they were silent LOL). I had assumed we had gone from the Greatest Generation straight to Baby Boomers. As a Gen-Xer, I don't put much credence into explanations like this. I think each generation is raised to address the time they live in..

I believe the biggest problem is in the politics area, younger generations can’t change anything right now because somehow the high government positions are held and by people who would normally be considered unfit to work because of their age
as someone from gen A/Z (2010), I'm scared for my generation
Again, demographers prove their ignorance by ignoring the Cusp Generation. Anyone I would need to explain that to, must first go back and finish third grade.
One thing I will tell you is Baby Boomers are not afraid of work. We grew up, many on farms and were taught to work. If my dad was alive today he would be 108 years old, and I remember always saying I hate a lazy SOB. He would go crazy on young people today. I am now 70, and I can still work circles around young guys. Maybe they are proud of being lazy. If they can't park their butt and work on a computer, they are done. I do not think the country is in good hands with this young generation.
Any complaint about the "younger generation" should be preceded by "damn we were terrible parents and grandparents, because..."
We simply believe that a humans life shouldn’t mostly be spent making CEOs billions while we live off of scraps and have no time to enjoy anything
@@BanterSage Right on. And if you sat this guy down to "work on a computer" which is what most careers require now, he would fail miserably. And even now, with what he considers a lazy generation, Europeans think American work culture is insane. We take less vacation time than any other country. But this man thinks if you're not plowing a field, sweating in a steel mill, or working 60 hours a week to please your boss, your life is worthless. And they wonder why younger generations can't stand baby boomers.
@@you_can_call_me_T Wasn't just bad parents, it was internet, not being allowed to discipline your children because that would be terrible. Fewer farms with spread out America and you just worked. There was a time when being a hard worker was something to be proud of,and being lazy was some thing to be ashamed of.
There is a difference between a job, and a career.
I remember people from 19. century, they have about 80 years then in 70s, great people
The crazy part is almost all the hero’s listed were popular to us Gen Xers.
Gen Z here, Jungkook is from the K-pop group BTS and Lisa is from the K-pop group Blackpink the two of them are the most popular k-pop groups in the world.
Before it was called Gen X it was called the Baby Buster Generation due to the lower birth rate. You'll never hear me refer to myself as Gen X. Dave from Ohio
When abortion became legal our population declined
And another name for millennials is Echo boomers because of being the offspring of baby boomers and where the birth rates increased significantly as well.
@@anonomas6126 it didn't become legal, rather it became federally recognized as something not to be restricted.
The Silent Generation mostly (lead by Greatest Gen) fought the Korean War. Boomers and older silents were in Vietnam. Completely grossed over Gulf War and Afghanistan Wars.
That manned Mars mission is awfully optimistic
The moment Jungkook was brought up in this video I started automatically happy-stimming.
I think the video is onto something. (Gen Z woman here).
You've never watched Rick and Morty? Dude that could be your most viewed series.
the Gen X cartoons should have been He-Man G.I. Joe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Doraemon is Japanese. I'm surprised it made the list. I was hoping Inspector Gadget
or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would make the cartoon list but I'm happy with the other two.
I'm Gen X and I've never heard of Doreamon in my life. My older son is Gen Z and he LOVES Rick and Morty.
Oswald The Lucky Rabbit was also made by the cartoonist of Mickey Mouse after Disney took Mickey Mouse.
Proud to be a generation X
Wwi happened in the greatest generation, wwii happened in the silent generation, and that caused the “baby boom”
The "baby boom" happened when all the men came home after WW2, at least in the USA.
I’m a millennial/Gen Y but I’d say the greatest generation is aptly named.
And I have no idea what a beyblade is…
Gen X should be the marvel age.
Never watching rick and morty is crazy!!!!! You definitely gotta do some reactions!! Great and funny show 🤣 you would enjoy it
Gen Alpha is still being born.
Wow I’m early the differences between the generations is technology tbh. The rest sort its self out
Generation X here. And I had never heard of disarming until now.
I am from gen Alpha
Jungkook is from the kpop group BTS
Lisa is i’m going to assume is from the kpop group Black Pink.
And fun fact: Millennials are also called “Echo Boomers” because of being the offspring of baby boomers and where the birth rates increased significantly again.
Gen X. The last great generation. FJB 🇺🇸
✊
Damn I miss the days when people kept their politics to themselves.
What have you done in your life that’s great
😦😂😂😂😂😂
As a younger Gen Xer born in 79 I think the older millennials are pretty cool.
Younger ones though are kinda weird with their memes. I don't understand
why they're so popular when character catchphrases are so much better.
Gen Z isn't bad either. A lot of Gen Xers are raising Gen Z and we're pretty cool so
Gen Z is inheriting our coolness. Plus both our generations know what it's like to be
smaller than the generation before us.
Am I the only one who doesn't know what FJB stands for? I hate all these abbreviations
online. Why can't people just type words so everyone can understand what's being said?
This list is bull crap. As a Millennial the things we are known for and the musicians are completely wrong!
65 year old boomer here.
As a Gen X, Kurt Cobain was not my generation idol. That's inaccurate. I didn't recognize Kurt Cobain until the 90s, period!
A bit dubious.. I expect the great generation is called that probably because the were growing up in the Era of "The Great War" WWI.
Personally I think the generation divides are just a way to stir up strife, really its artificial because if you fall between or at the edges its not representative.
For my generation Star wars figures, He Man and Transformers were the top toys and the latter 2 most popular cartoons Doreamon is a Japanese cartoon we certainly didnt get here, the Idols were obvious going off american trends Freddie Mercury, would have been on the list,
Im 1997 so im an early genZ lol
Judgemental, confused, narrow minded...all the generations?
We had it best in the 80s and 90s!
Then generation beta girls got real potential
Who the hell is Lisa? I know Lisa Simpson….erm the wife of Tommy Wiseau in _The Room_ …..after that I’m struggling
This video is a bit silly. It keeps thinking that the '80's was a Gen X decade and the '90's was the Gen X decade.
Very interesting.
That’s kind of a weird video. They got some things wrong but not too bad. Simpsons was Gen X, not Doraemon.
Ouch as a milenial. We only ones that got two negatives lol. Risk taker and self-centered. Oof.
Iykyk lol. I appreciate that separation, because the world changed to much so quickly that I had a completely different experience growing than someone born in 1990.
gen alpha i don't know those idols and cartoons or thos hair cut
Gen X ROCKS
My mom is a millennial but she was born in 1988 and grew up as a 90s kid and 80s & 90s millennials aren’t the sameb
Gen X cartoons was more Like Transformers, He-man, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I never heard of the Silent Generation (maybe because they were silent LOL). I had assumed we had gone from the Greatest Generation straight to Baby Boomers. As a Gen-Xer, I don't put much credence into explanations like this. I think each generation is raised to address the time they live in..
I think he messed up on alot of this stuff.
Gen x
gen alpha: terrible
Whichever generation you are in is the best ;-)
Im pretty sure that Lisa and Jungkook are from popular K-Pop groups
they completely missed Generation Jones. (1955 - 1965) Typical of sloppily made videos on this subject
They didn't skip any
That's still Boomer generation
They keep changing the years of Gen X to Gen Z. When my oldest was born in '95 she was considered the beginning of Gen Z. Now she's a Millenial?
@@annemariecronen9096 gen Z is mostly considered to start around 1997, maybe back in 1995 they just considered your child to be a part of the next generation for simplicity.
Who the hell made that generation?.
