Good story telling without tons of video on the mechanics. It was interesting to see the yellow jack ramp in operation. We carry one of those and a hydraulic floor jack.
Thanks very much @thecarys563, we appreciate your feedback! Like you we carry the yellow trailer aid as well as a bottle jack. That was the first time we used the trailer aid and as you saw, it worked really well.
Just found you guys while planning a Fall Yukon trip from SW Ontario. Love your content and all the wonderful tips you take the time to share. As campers for many years ourselves - we so appreciate respectful, considerate campers like you when we are on the road.
Terry, sorry to hear of your axle issues. You've given me an incentive to check tread wear on our TT, although it has many many less miles than you have already accumulated.
Thanks Jim. Obviously we wish it hadn’t happened but we’re we’re grateful we discovered it before it led to bigger issues and we wanted to share the experience in hopes it might help someone else. We really appreciate your feedback!
Hello. What a great plan for 2024! FYI, the road from Québec to Labrador is now fully paved…this is what we learned a few weeks ago while at the RV Show in Qc city…so it will be so much better! As for the best period to go…it is apparently the last week of May and the first few weeks of June in order to see the icebergs…again, this is what we have been told. You can camp directly on the water along the coast of Labrador…and then take a ferry across to NFL (2 ferry runs/day almost everyday). Hope it helps! Remi (Qc city)
Hi Remi, thanks for the information! Really appreciated. We’ve got our ferry crossings booked and it looks like we’ll be there right in the timeframe you’re recommending. How was your trip to Alaska?
@@TrueNorthCamping Hello. Our adventure in Alaska was amazing! We did the « ocean to ocean to ocean » trip of a lifetime. Spent 7 weeks in Alaska, and did the Dempster Highway, not with the trailer of course, but loved it! We followed along your itinerary, but did it in reverse, from our entry from BC’s Stuart Cassiar Highway to our exit by the ALCan Highway. What a trip! 33,000 KM in total (5 full months on the road). No major problem but our Schwinteck mechanism is due for replacement :-( Oh well, that is part of the experience I guess ;-) Have a great winter! Can’t wait to see what you record next summer! Remi
Looking forward to your next adventure. Do you have any plans on coming down to the lower states? I love that I get to see Canada through your adventures. Some day hope to explore your country.
Having this done to my RV as we speak. Everything the same, except the drivers side. I think about 10,000 miles. Did not know about the spare being different, I will check that out. I knew about the lug nuts being different from a previous camper and switched them out before hitting the road. Will have to check about the tire issues
Thank you for ALL of your videos. They are inspirational and so helpful. We are planning a summer 2025 AK trip w/ camper. Our beginning locale is a little different -KS : ) Thanks again (Make more videos!)
Thanks so much! We really appreciate the support and are genuinely happy you found the videos helpful. Have fun planning your trip! And as for more videos…we are currently in Newfoundland working on the next series. Safe travels and happy camping!
@TrueNorthCamping that is awesome. Thank you. If I could humbly bother you w/ a question. I (we) are very protective of our 22 ft. Imagine and are considering getting a used over the cab camper for just this trip. Opinion? Grateful!
One additional thing that we have done. I rotate my treailer tires every 5000 miles or so. No different than the tow vehicle. tires don't necessarily wear the same the whole way around. So by rotating my trailer tires I think I am maximizing their life. Mind you for many trailers this is not necessary, as many are 10 years old and have like 2000km on them, but if you are doing any serious towing, then why not rotate? As always, safe travels... and looking forward to Videos from your NFLD trip in the spring. We may possibly end up there in 2024 as well.
Terry -- Sorry to hear about your bent axle. Any thoughts on how/when it happened? Also, nice that Dexter sent you a new axle at no cost for the part. Did you submit a warranty claim, or did they just do it out of the goodness of their hearts (and your visibility on TH-cam)?
Hi Barry, a couple of good questions there. Your last one is easy. Dexter definitely was NOT influenced by our youtube channel. We aint that famous 😉 and in fact we didn’t even mention it to them. Regarding a warranty claim - yes we made one and Dexter reviewed our case and replaced the axle. As for how the axle got bent, we don’t know with certainty. It didn’t happen on our trip to Alaska as the uneven tire wear didn’t start until the next camping season - which was after our dealer did some warranty work that required jacking the trailer. Im not accusing the dealer of jacking the trailer incorrectly, just pointing out the timeline of the axle failure. I will say we have been very impressed by the ride and performance provided by the Dexter Torflex axles (and reduced sway they seem to provide) and were quite pleased with how Dexter handled the problem.
While watching some of your video's yesterday I noticed you might have uneven tire wear on one of your tires. The video was, Did the Alaskan Highway break our trailer. At the 4.05 minute mark it looks like the inside part of the tire is wearing faster than the outside but this does look to be on the drivers side.
Thanks very much Chris, we did have an axle replaced when we noticed uneven wear last fall. Dexter was very good to deal with. Weve since put 5000 kms on the trailer and so far, 🤞all is good.
We’re so looking forward to your next adventure ❤
