  • The “Ode to Joy” theme from the rousing finale of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is probably among the very first excerpts of music that many of us, including myself, used to play as a beginner. With that being said, I have never gotten over the fact that this supreme music that we are privileged to appreciate was composed by a musical giant battling with severe hearing loss and tinnitus. This is why my reinterpretation of this timeless masterwork must show more of its glory and originality on a much grander scale. Although I have yet to develop the technical proficiency required to pianistically replicate the entire choral symphony, I hope that what I have learned to play as a side project for this summer (winter for the Southern Hemispherians) is sufficient to take us through a journey from the deepest suffering to the purest happiness and joy possible and convey perhaps the most poignant message that Beethoven and Schiller left for the world today - the universal brotherhood of humanity.
PS: huge credits to Franz Liszt for making the piano capable of reproducing the characteristics of such stupendous symphonic/choral music in the compass of its seven octaves.

First video where the pianist plays at almost perfectly consistent speed throughout the entire mvnt.

Thank you! Beethoven has clear instructions for the tempo of his music, so I try to honour his intentions.

Less that 1k views is insulting for the effort this takes!

I like ode to joy because I had the best dream about Mozart and Beethoven at age 13. I dreamed that I lived in different country than the composers and practiced music. I dreamed that I lived during composers time I dreamed that I was born in 1770th and Beethoven was born on the same year and Mozart was born in 1756 in my dream I wanted to travel to Vienna to show Mozart my talent and so I traveled to his country on a ship and went inside Mozart's bed but he didn't hear me he slept deep and the next morning he saw me and I sat down on his piano to show him my talent and he fell love with my talent I dreamed that Mozart was married to another woman her name was Anna the woman that Mozart met on his concert and she was a singer but she wasn't a composer like Mozart and when his woman saw me with Mozart she was jealous but not as much as when she saw me in his bed and so the next day I stayed with Mozart and then I fell in love with him but in the beginning Mozart parents couldn't deal with it that Mozart was married to another woman but sleeps with me. I dreamed that I lived with Mozart and his sister in one room but slept in a separate room from his sister I dreamed that I lived in two bedroom house I dreamed that
his sister slept upstairs I slept downstairs with Mozart. I dreamed that I slept Mozart he
left the next morning and Mozart's servant said that Mozart went to baptise with Beethoven at the church and Mozart told Beethoven about me about my talent in my dream I got pregnant with my first child from Mozart. In my dream my talent was a composer a singer and a song writer in my dream wrote the song joyful joyful we adore the thee the song is important to us we'll sing together the song of our so I traveled to Beethoven's county by horses. In my dream Mozart dressed me in to beautiful dress and a wig at that time people wore wigs. In my dream I saved Mozart from Salieri I didn't do anything I just pointed gun at him in my dream. I went to Beethoven's house and saw a beautiful girl her name was Elise for who he from for Elise for. In my dream Beethoven's girl introduced herself to me she said he name was Elise and she is 18 years old and I told her that I was 15 and when I sat down on the piano next to Beethoven and his girlfriend left we went to another room and I showed Beethoven my talent and he also told me how to compose correctly he said about high pitches medium and low he said you don't just have to play it but also write it and so I did like Beethoven told me. Then I went to Queen Elizabeth's palace during composer's time
she gave us a separate room with Mozart and so I stayed one night at Queen Elizabeth's palace and when I woke up the Queen's servants were very loud serving food and so at that time I sat down with Mozart on the piano and I played to Queen Elizabeth the Turkish March Mozart and my own composition my composition was named Joyful, joyful and it was very joyful my composition and went Back to Germany Beethoven's country and he put me on stage and I had my first concert there and when I first sang at my concert I got famous only in Germany for the first time and for the second time I went to Vienna and I sat on the piano and played my music and left the piano another music went on my piano and I found Mozart's violin in his closet in my dream
in my country in Vienna at that time I lost Beethoven but saved Mozart he lived longer than in real some one said how long Mozart lived and so I sang joyful joyful we adore the thee a little different then some else wrote it at took my violin and the audience clapped and Mozart hugged me and I went back home with him I was happy because I had 4 kids with Mozart but he didn't divorce his wife but he still loved me he couldn't divorce her and also couldn't watch our kids we were too busy composing and singing at our concert and that was the end of my dream about Mozart and Beethoven.
