  • After a lengthy hiatus we're back with a new video. We trawled our local charity shops to find some interesting movies and came away with a mixed bag, including the tale of a maverick French cop punching his way through Tokyo and an Australian WWI film set in No Man's Land. Watch on to see if they were worth our donations.

Bloody hell, Wasabi is a massive blast from the past. I need to re-watch that again.

I love a good charity shop trawl. Recent highlights for me recently -
Read My Lips (2001. Jacques Audiard. £2.99 from Oxfam. They be can quite pricey there. Especially with Cult, Arthouse, World Cinema titles).
Steve Jobs (2015. Danny Boyle. 50p from British Red Cross, that's more like it bargain wise).
Morvern Callar (2001. Lynne Ramsay. 50p from City Hospice Shop. This was the end result of an hours worth of time searching through ALL the charity shops (7 in all) in a nearby town called Penarth. An absolute dearth of anything interesting (other than the titles I'd already bought). I was beginning to get quite disappointed and a little desperate until, finally, Lynne Ramsay and Samantha Morton saved the day. A genuine hidden gem prize amidst a lot of mouldy chaff.
I'd say of Jon's finds, Witness is definitely the winner there. And Simon, your Wasabi find gets top points for being an interesting risky choice that pays off with what looks like some pretty satisfying action from the World Cinema Forum ☺️👍
It's really great to see you guys back ✌️😊

Some nice finds in your own charity shop hunt there! Morvern Callar is one I’ve been meaning to check out for years. ~ J.

Great to see you guys back even if it's only for a brief stint. You know, I've still never seen the movie Witness, you reminded me I really need to give that one a spin. Also, The Name of the Rose, thumbs up, love that movie, what a cast. I had a fun time watching Wasabi, matter-of-fact revisited it not too long ago. It was sold to me as more of a comedy so I guess my expectations were set differently for it.

Oxfam also has to pay for the prostitutes for the staff in places like Haiti etc.
