As an archer, I have a couple of questions: Why are the arrows so long? Also, the bow is very long. Why? I ask because just from the way the fella was pulling back the string and the thinness of the bow, it seems that the draw weight of the bow is quite low-fascinating. I do have a theory as to why. Flaxen Saxon.

Longer arrows are more stable in flight

A longer bow will break less easily

The draw weight of the bow is largely determined by the thickness between the belly and the back rather than the sides of the bow. Lighter limbs means more energy goes into the arrow.

The heavy arrow has more punch and doesn't need the added velocity and they don't want the arrow to go all the way through because it slows the animal down. Like the difference between a shot gun slug and a rifle. Same reason the spear thrower is still used.
Most modern ideas of hunting have come about to comply with hunting laws and the hunting Bushcraft Industrial Complex.
