- What sights, sounds, and smells remind you of home?
Growing up, certain aspects of my childhood always made home feel like home. Music playing in the house formed a thread that tied our family together. The food prepared in the kitchen nourished not only our stomachs but also our hearts. During the summers, we would spend time at my grandmother’s house. She would make us grilled cheese and hot tea with milk. We would eat that all day! Still to this day, when I make it for myself or for my kids, that combination creates a soothing balm that still calms me to this day. All of the sights, sounds, and smells of home created during my childhood established lasting memories I carried into adulthood to later share with my family and loved ones.

I’m Puerto Rican…that’s not how I make rice😅
First, we rinse the rice with cold water til it’s not cloudy.
We heat up some oil in a pot, add onions or real garlic for flavor then when it’s hot
We throw the rice in and toast it and mix with the onions or garlic for a min or two then we add the water ratio and I add some salt for taste. We use Goya brand but, I love the long grain Jasmine rice.
And that’s how we do it!🎉
Boricua 🇨🇺😊
That sounds pretty much how we Haitians make rice. Instead we add oil and a green onion (sometimes I'll add garlic at this stage) but yes, we wash that rice until the water runs clear 😊 but I'll always have 'rice on tap' 😂
I'm going to try this next!
I heard this while on my walk through the podcast but came over to TH-cam just to leave this comment:
This was such a BEAUTIFUL reminder of the BEAUTY of simple living. For those of us that aim to intentionally live this way, we STILL have to be reminded. If humans can do ANYTHING it’s complicating matters 😂🤣(the flesh!). Anywho, I Love you sister in Christ. I appreciate your gift to the world, your authenticity, and Love for LIFE(& the Lord)🙏🏼❤️
Yes!! Well said! I agree. 😊
Wow, thank you!
I can really cook, but this is something I messed up on as a teen and I never tried again. It's been boil-in-a-bag ever since. My bend toward perfectionism often robs me of the "try, try again," but TODAY... I made white rice, and it was the most fantastic thing I've done in a while. Thank you, Chrystal, for sharing this. I went back to an old, old failure, and made a brand new win. ❤
Love this! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Loved watching this! Thanks Chrystal!!!
"Regular life is good life. Regular memories are good memories." 🙌 So good! Thank you for sharing what's on your heart. 🟡
Hi Chrystal! Thanks for bringing us back to what really matters. When you’re really enjoying the moment you forget all about taking pictures. You remind me of my big sister she has the home that everyone drops in with short notice but somehow she always had something or enough for everyone to enjoy. 😊
I'm gonna listen to classical music! Thanks for this reminder and being so real.
I struggled for a long time being so tired, washing up dirty dishes and being so slow late in the night.
When I finally released myself and gave grace to me, there were and still are some nights that I go to bed with dirty dishes.
So freeing!
So
Love creating memories... especially the music and candles. I grew up American with Caribbean influence...rice is our staple 💜
Had me over here crying about white rice & babies making memories😂❤
Same!
I think you just freed me a little bit! I'm new to this motherhood thing, I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and I have been married for almost 7 years. Life been lifeing and I've been so hard on myself to get things right. Thanks for this reminder!
Girrrlll...life be lifing 4 real! Enjoy your little one's because in a blink of an eye they will be big one's leaving home to go "lifing!" My 1st child just graduated a few days ago and my head is STILL SPINNING wondering and thinking,"Where did the time go?" Enjoy, love and raise your kids now, you can clean 🧹your house later! 😉 🥂 To Life- ing!
Thank you Crisi, i stumbled on this post just when i had a melt down about the chaos in my house and wondering why I can't get it organized like all other women's houses. I have 3 toddlers
This was enjoyable! So pleasant & relaxing!❤😊
I love to hear chrystal talk about random things. Such a great storyteller ❤
awwww thanks!
She’s excellent! I never grow tired of hearing her tell stories. Truly gifted.
Beautiful Chrystal. Love that perspective. A regular life IS a GOOD LIFE 😊
I love listening to Crystal she relaxes. I grow up listening classical all the time.
Crystal, I've been following you for a couple of years now and I'm just learning today that you're the daughter of Rev. Dr. Tony Evans. You are gifted and I've received many life nuggets from you and I want to say Thank You! 🤗🤗
GOOD MORNING CHRYSTAL 🎊🎉🗣️🎤🙏🔥🔥🔥🙏💪🤗🤎👑🌸🌺♥️💯🏆♥️🔥🔥🔥❗❗❗I PRAISE GOD FOR YOUUU 🙌🙌😭♥️🔥❗
Although I was raised in NYC, my daddy from Georgia insisted you Don't have meal without rice & gravy! Now, I used butter and chicken stock...Yummy!
I don’t know why I watched this like I was watching a comedy. Her face was melting me and I love it 😅. I mean this is Rice … I never knew RICE making was this crucial 😂. Thanks, this brightened me up. Thank you and God bless 😊
Rice making is CRUCIAL! lol
@@ChrystalHurst 😂😂😂
I needed this recap! ❤ It set me straight the first time, and now it's a gentle reminder that a "regular life" and a messy house at this time in my life is all good!😊 Thank you Chrystal! 18:08
This is so good! The simplest things is what makes a home a home. I agree with classical, I play jazz, or instrumental worship as the sounds of my house. It soothes the atmosphere of my home. I enjoyed listening
You're so Amazing!
I thank God for you, and your simplicity, honesty, and transparency. You always speak to my spirit with your calm voice. 🙏 Pray God continues to bless you!
Awesome - such a great reminder of being present and being mindful of life; as well as being thankful 💕
14:38 Love this video! Made me realize how good I have had it. We have two grown sons. Coming up our house was the hang out spot. Mind you we didn't have the best of everything but we had fun. Thanks for the memories. Even now they come home for the weekend all the friends still drop by!
That is awesome!
This was so good!! Simple is good! Thank you!
Thanks again Crystal you have made another wonderful day in my life.I love 💕 your simplicity and calm way of making home a place of memories.
Hi Crystal. I wore my Give Yourself Grace T-shirt today!
I love how you are so organized in so many areas of your life... a must for homeschooling all of them, but are able to be flexible... pick you battles. I use to fret over dishes in the sink overnight, or laundry not done ... not anymore!!! Do not sweat the small stuff. There is a time for everything. ❤ 😊 "Regular life... simple things are AH-mazing."
"Clean sheets" on MY bed ARE indeed amazing.❤
Sounds like you are a woman of wisdom...
This was so so beautiful ❤ brought tears to my eyes ❤️
This was perfect 🥰. Thank you.
WOW. Thank you Chrystal. I'm listening to this just before my shower and going to bed. Soooooooo relaxing and contemplative. Thank you for sending me off to bed blessed ❤🙏🏽
Wonderful!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you Chrissy💜 This was A SO Needed reminder 🙏🏽 I Love you🥰 Lady T
This was amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
So love this real and transparent and simple video of what really matters. Storytelling we can I learn from. Simple things truly are the best. I too play classical music throughout my house. And as a matter of fact I have left over rice in my fridge right now. Love, love, love this post. Thank you, Crystal. ❤
You are so welcome! Enjoyed telling the story.
Good stuff. Simple things matter. Life’s short. Enjoy each moment
Love you Crystal
Wonderful reminder to keep life simple!
🥹 Beautiful!
You forgot to wash the rice first! Thank you for teaching 👌🏾
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Chrystal…. Regular life is good life!!!
Thank you for this!!
I sooooo love this! I love how you allow us to see your messy:) I feel so vindicated about my own messy. My grandkids and kids and family and friends know they can drop in any time and whatever I have is theirs. I don't always have white rice but I have coffee and tea! Thank you so much for being real!!! You and your family are so much like me and mine.
This is one of the best videos I have seen EVER!! Life is short and I get caught up in things that do not matter as much as I thought. THANK YOU!! It’s the simple life that is the happiest.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful moment ❤️.
You are such a beautiful story teller of truth and what living is so about. Thank you❤
That’s so good! Creating memories matters ❤❤❤ Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
Your welcome!
Thank you for this. Much needed after my last baby just graduated High School a few days ago and we had some friends over to celebrate that evening. As I looked over the sink full of dishes after everyone had left, all I could think of was what a blessing that day was to my Mama heart 🥹. For so long I never gave myself grace for not having a meticulously clean and organized house, but we've sure had fun with our babies! Now that they're all grown I get to see them taking what we've modeled and live it out in their own way. Kudos to you for being that person with white rice on hand, for it's not always easy being that go to person, but man is it rewarding! ❤
We have to get back to the basics to the things that really matter. Thanks, CEH, for sharing!💛
Thank you for this video. I was sitting here tense from work and started listening to this video. As I listened to your voice and the story. The tension went away, I thank God for the sound of your voice. Your voice spoke to my tired self. I am good now. Thanks!
I'm so glad to hear that!
Thank you ma’am for blessing me! That was right on time, wisdom filled and encouraging.❤
Thanks for watching
I cook the best white rice - my family loves it.
Love it!! Thank you for sharing your precious life! I am getting Window Markers for the grandkids!💕💕
Hello everyone!
The directions for most things are on the back of packages that’s a good place to start until you want to get fancy.😊
Correct. The instructions are a great place to start!
Look...there is nothing wrong with having white/jasmine/brown rice already cooked and sitting in the refrigerator. I love that "have rice on tap" I need to use that for now on. My husband jokes with others all the time. There are a few things that will always be in our kitchen. Rice, onions, peppers, & cloves...yup. Loved this video
You sound like good cook to me!
@@ChrystalHurst I love cooking! It's definitely my love language. There were so many things that you said that resonated with me. My kids come home (especially the youngest) she'll go into the fridge and say "Do you have food?", lol 🤣
Thanks😊 This video was full of nuggets! Love you❤ God bless you and yours..
It matters!
Thanks you for sharing ❤
Oh this is special
This message.. I LOVE 💕 !!
Man, you remind me so much of your mom! I listened to her all the time 💕
BEST VIDEO EVER
🎉🎉
U KNOW WHY BECAUSE YOU ARE KEEPING IT REAL. THANK YOU ❤🎉❤🎉 And by the way it was a very relaxing video with that classical music thank you
Welcome!
I hear ya, but I'm having a hard time learning to happily live in the season. Thank God for His grace and mercy. 🙂
I understand. Some seasons are really hard. The flex in hard seasons is sometimes to simply keep going. Hang in there okay?
@@ChrystalHurst Thanks, Chrystal. I try to be intentional about keeping going, even on some of the hard days. 🙏🏾❤️
Thank you Crystal. I needed this video this morning.
My girlfriend cooks and eats white rice all the time. But she rinses her and I would suggest that to all cooks to rinse any type of rice because it has arsenic in it. Check google and see. Love the music
Googling!!!!
I just love this ❤!
Similar to how Gordon Ramsey does it. It is much easier this way i agree. Love your videos.love yhe music in the background for your grands❤
This was good!
Thanks for watching!
I'm coming over for dinner. And where can I get the radio?
Home does matter. 🙂👍🏾
Yes it does!
Wash the rice stir k3ep rinsing till not cloudy...rice has arsenic in it.
True for organic rice too?
I thought you're supposed to boil water first 🤔
I boil water first as well, add oil and a little salt... but since she's bringing it to a boil, then turning it down low...probably doesn't make a difference.
I would love to be that women.
But I have no children. Thus no grandchildren. But I did just make some white rice🤓
Love this... Want to keep it simple? Add some Brunswick sardines to your rice and you're good.😳
You are an AMAZING WOMAN ❤
Thank you!
Amen ❤⭐️⭐️
🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
I wash my rice before cooking
Now you have me wanting to see what I've been missing!
We do our rice different but it’s okay because everybody is different.
So true :) To each his (or her) own.
😔
Oh this is special
