It is! Good eyes. The Luna's pickup placement is an inch closer to the bridge compared to my Fender PJ mustang. Makes it more midrangey and nasal. I think it sounds much more aggressive than a PJ mustang! Thanks for watching!
Thanks again, Jonathan. I was always curious about this bass and how quality it is. Regarding the mahogany body, as far as I read the spec, it seems to be eastern mahogany. So, probably Nyatoh, the same used in many classic vibe Squier basses - including the mustangs.
That is a really interesting observation! Maybe it's the lack of opaque paint and finish, but the tap tone of the body (you can sort of hear it in the video) seems to be higher pitched and more 'ringy' than some of the nyatoh bodies I've had my hands on. Those seem to have more of a dull 'thud' more than a 'ping'. But it does very much depend on where the tree came from, part of the tree, age of the tree, how much moisture etc etc etc even if it's the same species of tree! Thanks for your loyal viewership!
Well, that tatoo is a matter of taste. But beside of that, this bass looks not bad and, even more important, also doesn't sound not bad at all. And this price tag make it eays to decide, for anyone who wants a decent bass (once it is set up properly). I like your honest reviews, Jonathan!
Thanks for watching! It's rather amazing what you can get for $200 USD these days. When I was a teenager in the 90s, this was definitely not the case! This Luna would eat the first Squier I had for breakfast!
Thank you Jonathan. Seen these a lot in the UK a few years back but they've gone off the radar a bit. Can't say it's something that stands out to me personally. I wish those lighter style tuners were more common on short scales.
@@jasondorsey7110 Yes I had an old 90s/00s one for a while and it was good to just pick up and play sat down without a strap. Never liked the neck shape on it though, found it a bit round and uncomfortable.
That’s a great thought! Flats and foam under the strings by the bridge will likely get you closer. It does look cool. I like that it’s different than all the others. Thanks for watching!
I've been meaning to ask - what is the purpose of the glove on your left hand? Is it for tone, or to be easy on your fingertips? I ask because I've played guitar & bass for 42 years and I still have no calluses
It's not a callus issue. I wish it was that simple! I have an autoimmune disease (a form of dermatomyositis) that has resulted in lots of finger joint and skin inflammation. It has also affected my big muscles and respiratory muscles. More specifically, I have lots of vasculitic spots on my fingertips that are very painful and worse with contact. So the glove acts as a bit of a cushion and helps with pain control. It's certainly not fashionable, but it's allowed me to ease back into playing music again. Should you be interested, one of my earlier videos is on this exact topic. Here's a link: th-cam.com/video/OQcV8KDUqlg/w-d-xo.html Thanks for asking and watching!
I do! There is a "Deluxe Electric Bass Bag" from Solo Music Gear. It's $60 USD or $85 CDN before taxes/shipping. I have 2 of these now and it'll blow any other similarly priced bags out of the water. Here's a link to the Solo site. No affiliate links, sponsorships or anything like that. Just a quality bag: www.solomusicgear.com/product/solo-deluxe-electric-bass-bag/ I also have videos on the gig bags I use, should it be helpful to you! That was filmed before I had the ones from Solo. th-cam.com/video/-hG70HJJJuA/w-d-xo.html
Provided you like how the neck feels, it might be worth it you were able to swap out the pickups (I'd change out the pots and wiring too) to get rid of the grounding and noise issue. However, what you might not be able to change is the weak sounding G string, which I think is a result of the design and construction. It already has a P pickup route, which makes it more convenient than, say, modding a Squier Bronco to accept a P. Thanks for watching!
Trevor Bolder (Bowie), bass line !
Love it, love the bass guitar tone too.
Brilliant, informative, great sounding demo, as usual !
Thank you so much for the encouragement! Some of the bass lines and tones on those old Bowie albums were golden!
Thanks again amigo , great vids great details 😊

Great review, yea love light weight, sort scales! Thank you!

Hey Jonathan, Thanks for this demo. the split-coil looks like it's a little closer to the bridge. I dig it! 🍺

For sure! Looks cool and different. I like that it’s different!

A nod to Bowie! Thanks for watching!

Agree with the smaller tuners. Really helps with the balance. Thanks for watching!
Those new squier broncos are great for that, ultralites are a direct fit, same with the gretsch junior jet

Sounds nice :)
Thanks for commenting and watching! It is noisy with the tone pot wide open, but it does have an aggressive bitey tone to it!
I wonder how it would sound with flats on it. Maybe that would get it closer to the Motown P sound that you mention. Very cool looking bass for sure.

Thank you. It's a far cry from a cure. Meds are expensive. But music always makes things better. One carries on!

The Fender influence is undeniable. The golden Leo ratios!
