Wow - can't believe what a nice job you did. I was a site engineer for Wimps and did some training at the Dawley Road and Hammersmith Depots and in the 80's, I'd forgotten seeing all the equipment, dozers and scrapers etc., getting the Yellow dip for a service, (plus of course the black chassis and silver wheels/axles etc.) Thanks for the memories.

Your opening credits were longer than the film "Zulu" :-), a little bit over the top. But full marks for restoring this beauty and recording it, and making the documentary for us Scammell fans.

Drove these Scammells for Wimpey in the Sixties out of Lancaster Rd Southall they had at the time 3 Senior Constructors with Rolls Royce Engines and 3Junior Construtors with Leyland 680 in them don,t remember this one must have been before my time. Ben Walker.
For me the most important thing about a trip like this is the booze-up at the overnight stop and in the campsite during the show evenings. Been to some great parties camping at motor race meetings.

Nicely done resto, a friend of mine and his father have a 1966 Scammel Routemaster 8x4 that still earns her keep now and then carting beer kegs, nice old truck, but the 80's resto is starting to look a bit sad now. They also have a 1980 Leyland Riever and a 1971 Mercedes Benz 1419 which do most of the work nowdays.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Looked good in Wimpey yellow too. And the music was good too - far better than some that can be heard on some videos! Berliner Luft is one of my favourites.

I don't think that you would have to worry about speeding tickets but I think it pull or haul anything that you could attach to or load onto the "Old Girl" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alexander Skerritt so the truck was built in 1958 for "Pickfords" after that you bought it and converted it into a Tow truck with that Mack boom crane and altered it over the years. Like cutting the back off and placing a flatbed look and when i saw the 80's picture it had like side steps but later they were gone, what happend to them?
Jack Corvette it was made for Pickford's then bought by Wimpy, then had the Mack Crane installed and the back removed. After that it was sold on a few times and had the back altered again. When it entered Alan Howards ownership he had it altered to look more like the period between Pickford's and Wimpy in a way.
Pity he drove all the way on the second day with the tool box lid swinging in the breeze because some amateur forgot to close it. I wonder what they lost because of that error?

It is Junior Constructor as far as I know they had Leyland 680 Engines and an old Gate change Gearbox with a High and Low on it .
