6:53 I need to correct you, the best in terms of efficiency is a 5x5 with 3 rods in a line in the middle of the reactor. That gives you, with resonant ender as cooling, about 8.2k FE while only using about 0.064mb/t. The checkerboard uses 0,094 with 10.2k FE. If you want to use 4 rods though put them in the corners. That only uses 0,086mb/t while giving about 9.96k FE. I did all this testing with resonant ender so results may vary with coolant. Edit: i didnt know that filling the complete reactor with coolant mattered, so my tests are a bit off from optimal, though the difference still stays.
Have you tested putting the fuel rods in a + pattern? I've always seen people mentioning how having the rods together makes them irradiate each other giving you more power and that the + shape is most efficient for this but I haven't tested it personally and I'm curious what the findings would be
@@hdzk3336 yes i have, that pattern has more rods, so more heat but also more power. In my test it did use 0.112 mb/t of fuel while delivering 11,07k FE/t meaning it is a lot less efficiemt than 4 pieces in each corner while only giving you about 1,1k FE/t more. In a larger reactor this again could be another story because of more coolant.
@@mrsnoopy7557 had a bit of time so i tested for myself, an 11x11x7 reactor with a 3x3x5 grid of fuel rods in the middle with resonant ender extending 3 blocks out in all 4 directions away from the centre gave about 64k FE/t while using 0.274 mB/t. this makes it (a tiny bit under) twice as efficient as the 5x5x5 reactor because if you were to use 4 5x5x5 reactors you would be using 0.256 mB/t (almost the exact same as the 11x11x7) but only be generating 32.8k FE/t which is half the power the bigger reactor generates
@JPEaglesandKatz My editing software got corrupted, and I lost all of my projects, but I recently was able to restore everything after months of trying, and the turbine video is about 75% complete!

Nuclear Fission* 0:32 Fission is the splitting of atoms into multiple particles, which releases energy as per the famous E=MC^2. This uses things like uranium etc as fuel. This is how our current nuclear reactors work. And this is what the reactors in minecraft resemble (specifically PHWR reactors). Fusion is the fusing of multiple atoms into 1 heavy atom, which releases energy too as per the famous E=MC^2. This is literally what happens in stars and our sun! It fuses an isotope of hydrogen into helium. This is something currently being heavily researched and it would probably mean the biggest change for humanity in history. As it's basically non-polluting (produces helium as 'waste', which is a useful element) and generates incredible amounts of energy from very little fuel. Recently (end of 2022 and beginning of 2023) we have been able, for the first time, to produce more output than energy was put in using a nuclear fusion reaction. Which is incredible. Since then it has been replicated multiple times and we are seeing an increase in energy output. But we are far from achieving a Q value of 0, which basically means a net neutral reaction (producing the energy necessary to 'run' the reaction - things like cooling, providing the massive magnetic field etc,...). But we would need MUCH more than that in order to make it a viable power source. Nuclear fission is amazing and there's a lot of new developments to make it more attractive as it's necessary for achieving a greener planet. But I could've only dreamt of being allowed to be alive during the times where we are literally building our own Sun on earth to power our lives. Hope you find it as fascinating as me :D
Not one to comment often, but man oh man this is so helpful! I'd watched loads of other tutorials and they were all a mess compared to this, and never went over half of this material! I've always used Extreme Reactors but never understood anything outside of the basics of the two reactor types & some basic coolants. Looking forward to putting all of this to use. :) Sadly though, looks like no turbine tutorial ever materialized?
Thank you for the kind words. And yes, unfortunately, I have yet to make the turbine tutorial due to simply having no time. But I do fully intend on finishing it when I can finally settle down.
plz make the turbines video!! your tutorials are so awesome and id love to see one for the turbines, especially now that ive been getting into atm9 tts :)
For anyone looking to use redstone port: you can use 3 ports to turn it off and on. Two outputs, one for when power is below something like 5% and one for when power is above something like 95%, both connected to a pulse extender (which converts the signal from either output to a pulse) that connects to an input set to toggle on/off based on pulse. Pretty simple
Theres such an easier way to turn it on and off, u don't even need redstone conduits from EnderIO, just 3 restone dust 1 block below the ports. Set up exactly how it is in this video, but instead of using 95%, use 70% its more efficient that way. Simple as that. Just be aware that it takes a few seconds to kick off and on.
I get the problem "Turn off the reactor and push the control rods all the way into the fuel rods" but my 5x5x5 reactor is the same as the one you built in your video. Do you have any idea what my problem is because the reactor control rods say that is 100% in
the one video i could find giving me a decent run through ty i have a 9x9 and I'm using the tangerium but i still feel like my power output is low is it supposed to be at like 2400 Celsius?
I built an 11x11x11 reactor with platinum between the fuel rods however the temperature is around 2500C isnt platinum a coolant? or should i add something more to it? Thank you
how do you get the stats for your coolants? im playing on atm10 and im able to use allthemod vib and unobtanium as coolant materials... so how do i know if they're btter than redfrigium or as good as it?
I literally have to test all of them, lol. As far as I know, there is no way to see which one is better just by looking. I do plan on making a list of all the coolants and their stats and relasing it to the public :) so much testing though
Hey if you're really only using a little bit of power look into some thermal nitro generators and putting soul lava below it's ridiculous as it turn water into about 37,000 rf/t
I'm not sure of the name. I can check in a bit. But its built into the all the mods 9 modpack and is already pre-installed in the shader packs options!
Just make sure whatever pipes you are using are able to pull from the waste chamber. And make sure the chamber is set to automatic ejection. You can also manually remove the waste.
