SOuth Korea has a lot of common names because of the class system. In 1894 the abolition of Korea's class-based system allowed commoners to adopt a surname too: those on lower social rungs often adopted the name of their master or landlord, or simply took one in common usage. Basically in the Joseon Dynasty everyone took the names of the people they worked for so thats why there are soo many people with the same last names!
Apparently in South Korea, parents often bribed teachers to get their kids better grades/advancements at school. Park likely had Dongeun's mother extort the gifts from the parentd so it would implicate Dongeun and she would lose her job.
the bribery thing was that Dong-eun's mom was essentially asking the moms of the students to bribe her with gifts so that their children could get good grades. that's why she had all those expensive gifts. this happens a lot in private schools in Asia. I worked in China for 6 years as a teacher at a private school and there was a policy that we couldn't accept expensive gifts from parents for this very reason.

Finally, Japanese colonizers forced all Koreans to have a last name, and some who didn't by then picked the names associated with the most powerful family clans - leading to there being a ton of Kims, Lees, Parks, Chois, and Chungs today (along with Kangs). Less common last names might be No, Goo, Gye, Koo, Ma, etc. So common last names may or may not indicate whether two people are connected on 23andme.

I think they are watching with the other Eng subs (the ones that aren't CC) because I've heard Aaron repeat some lines that weren't word-for-word what was written on screen but they're using the inaccurate CC subs for the video itself. at least I hope that's the case.

That's because dubbed live action is even worse than dubbed anime - I've never seen a dubbed live action where the voice over acting matched the original actors' performances; it really destroys the impact. They don't even bother to translate properly most of the time

Yes, there are family names that are very common. 김 (Kim) is the most and I think 박 (Park) is second.
