I'm a retired Fish Pathologist and started professional freelance Outdoor and Science writing in 1982 (about fishing for Steelhead, other Pacific Salmon, Atlantic Salmon, "giant" anadromous Brown Trout, The Caspian Sea Beluga Sturgeon (largest Freshwater fish), Arapaima, Tarpon + Fly Fishing and Fly tying & Big game hunting for Elk, Moose, Whitetail Deer, Blacktail Deer, Mule Deer, Black Bear, all with Bow and Arrow (of course, to eat)!! I used to also teach and write articles about Martial Arts, such as Kempo and Muay Thai. I started building Custom designed Fishing Rods part time, while I attended College and repaired fishing reels as well! In my reel-collection ( in a "Safe"), I have about 50 Original U.S. made reels such as Shakespeare, Zebco/Quantum, Eagle Claw, plus over 250 all Swedish-made Abu Garcia Baitcasting and Spinning reels. In addition, I have Shimano reels (including their very first reels ever), many DAIWA reels, and RYOBI reels from the 1970s made in JAPAN. In about September of 2000, their fishing division was sold to Johshuya Co. Ltd!! The high-end RYOBI Reels are still engineered by brilliant Japanese designers at; 1-5-6 Sakae-cho Soka-shi Saitama-ken 340-0011 JAPAN. Tel :81-48-935-1581, Fax :81-48-935-2136. You see in the early 1960s, I would make my own hooks by hand, and Sharpen them on Rocks to use and catch large Brown Trout (Salmo trutta). The trouble with people who lie, is that they assume that others lie as well, and that's probably why you believe that, some RYOBI RANMI Baitcasting reels are copies, and not engineered in JAPAN!! I was professionally building custom rods, and writing articles for international magazines, probably before you could walk!! The last time I made a comment on your video, all you could do was to be rude!! By the way, the reel was not "Ionized" but rather "Anodized", but it would take too much writing to explain the scientific procedure!! Peace, and Good luck!!

For slow jigging, look for "Nilure QN1500" or " madmouse QN1500", almost similar size to Shimano OJ 1500.
Ryobi Ranni Blue color, also can for slow jigging, but the spool is wider, need to use thumb to line adjust the line. Ryobi is cheaper

Nice for the money. I think comparing this to a Shimano Ocea Jigger is a stretch. I would buy one if available in silver. I already have 3 different sizes of Shimano Ocea Jigger reels. I bought them from Japan. All were expensive but all are outstanding reels. Sometimes it pays to buy the best.

@@SaltySoul12 if the spool is too loose, too much side play when you move the spool, then the is no tension or (brake) to stop the spool from over spinning.. your line will get tangled in the spool.
You tighten the knob, adjust the tension that you need, soo the line won't over run. Ideally when the jig drop to the bottom, the line stop going out... The spool should also stop spinning, else you end up with line tangled in your spool.

@@arthurdayne7325I am not an expert but, thinner lines are better and varies depending on the brands/manufacturer. Just because it's thinner doesn't mean it's weaker. Thinner line also means lesser drag in the water.

    • @jwanglerz8500

@@arthurdayne7325 the line i use 0.23mm is 30LBs. (You can get other brand with thinner diameter and higher pound rating) Because i mainly use it for slow Jigging, best to use thinner line as thick line cause drag and affects jig action. Furthermore, slow Jigging rod and assist hook are thinner (we downsize the tackle use) different from conventional jigging hook and are not meant for brute force yanking.

Ryobi already sold their fishing business. Is not under Ryobi management and their quality not as good as budget branded reel. You will most likely received slight scratch, dent parts out of the box and almost no luck with warranty claim if you received a bad one.

@@jwanglerz8500 ahh.. so another Japanese company bought Ryobi’s fishing tackle line product with Chinese factory based. Yet still using Ryobi as a brand name.. that is weird. Anyway.. if they bump up the QC of their product, they probably have no problem competing with other high tier company. Buying product from them is a gamble for now.

@@iAmGio91 yes, Ryobi no longer Ryobi. They sold their copyright "Ryobi" and the new company is a China manufacturer without QC level to a Japanese brand. Bought 2 reels and my initial impression is just a generic Chinese reel (not top quality but better than other cheap reel). Given the price point that they are selling..no way they can maintain high quality to japanese brand with such a low price point.
