The cenobite is such a good character for her to come face to face with. He's so calm and genuinely interested in seeing her react to the situation. I like the idea of a terrifying entity that bears no real ill will towards his victims but knows that they are all there to play a role.
i had the same thought. the cenobite is probably the only monster that could have reflected her reaction like that. he shows her the sphere almost to see if she’ll put the pieces together. i really like that.
And if they had used this guy as the villain for another Hellraiser movie, it probably still would have been better than any of the hot vomit they poured out after the first Hellraiser.

@@Brickman430 it’s supposed to be the Lament Configuration, which is a puzzle cube in the movie hellraiser that summons the cenobites when it is solved. but she doesn’t have that context. instead, she just recognizes the sphere from earlier when they were exploring the basement. she connects the significance of the object to the cenobite in front of her, realizing that if they had instead chosen to focus on this sphere they would have had to fight the cenobite, instead of the redneck zombies or whatever they end up fighting because of the object they chose. basically he’s just showing it to her to say, “you could have been dealing with me instead,” but as a viewer we also recognize him as a reference to hellraiser, and we recognize the sphere as a reference to the lament configuration. but those references are purely aesthetic- he could have been another monster and the meaning she takes from the exchange would be basically the same. the cenobite is just a very good monster to confront when you want an indifferent backboard to bounce a character’s dramatic realization off.

This was because there were plans for a DLC tie-in for the game based around the movie, but MGM cancelled the idea over financial issues but Valve still let them use their zombies for the scene.
That's a demon actually. Like any demon, they are of deceiving nature and it is trying to exploit their sympathy on it hoping they will help set it free so that it can possess a child.
Makes me wonder if it's not so much "locked away" as just sort of _volunteering_ to hang out in the facility since time and patience are presumably not limitations for Cenobites and it receives a guaranteed endless stream of new victims practically drip-fed to it by the scientists. I mean it doesn't even look like it's _trying_ to escape or anything, it's just patiently standing there with its evil puzzle-orb like, "Oh hey there... Wanna feel something really cool?" lol

It's finally a horror film that actually should have been longer. Felt rushed to the point it became an action film. They coulda had a lot more fun when things first kicked off and really built up the scares.

It really sucks we never got the full Left for Dead collab. For those who didn't know if you pause at 4:45 you can see the boomer from L4D2. It was supposed to be part of a collab where all the special infected appeared in this movie and the game would have dlc based off the movie but it was scrapped.
Fun Fact: if you look close you'll see the special infected from L4d2! They were supposed to do a crossover but the plans fell through. There was even gonna be a map in the game based off the movie!
In the mpvie its explained they are all gifts from the dark gods they worship. Nightmares from the old world before they slumbered. This is why they cant even kind of handle the mass purge. They can barley control these things and can't really contain them if they get completely loose. We never see how they get them back in the box after they're let out.

@FACF0416 He had his own puzzle though, he may be pinhead's equivalent or even superior. Leviathan has done similar things that we know of. Either way considering he's the only one we've seen with a brand new puzzle I'd say he isn't directly under pinhead even if he is the lesser in terms of power.
This movie NEEDS NEEDS NEEDS a sequel. I know the world ends at the conclusion of this film, but lets be honest, for movies like this, only the BIGGEST NERDS IN THE WORLD would complain about "canon" or "continuity."

The only thing that just killed the movie is that the stoner got shanked in the back with an meat hook, dragged off and then killed the zombie off screen. It basically killed all the suspense.
This movie started off as just another low budget low effort movie and then it surprises the hell out of you.
