Nick Woodman lets it all hang out in GoPro's open wheel racecar, Thunderhill Raceway. This is one of GoPro's commercials airing on national TV... stoked!
I remember back when this was posted and it was incredible to get this kind of footage for GoPro prices. Now I don't think there's a single session on any track in the US that doesn't have 10 onboard cameras filming it.
@sixteen116sixteen This was at qualifying. I don't know if you've ever been to thunderhill but if you have then you know that at that part of the track are 4 high speed corners (2 full throttle on a bike). If you slow down during the first corner you lose a significant amount of time on all the corners. It was a calculated risk.
@ResearchLifted The tires RPM matches the cameras FPS, each time the camera records a frame, the wheel has rotated into the same position as the last frame which causes the illusion that the wheels are hardly turning.
I see your point too. The green car wasn't helped by the fact that he was completing an overtake of his own. I guess however that both "prototype" cars should also have been aware that this little openwheeler was on the track as well being that he's so much faster than they are. In series like LMS, ALMS, etc which have multiple classes racing at once, the slower car always yields to the faster one.
I know space is a hard thing to find in a compact camera but i think that wind proofing the go pro, or a case could earn even more fans and buyers to the brand. I know it's a complicated thing to do but i feel that we've come far enough to use dual mikes and some software, dunno. Up to the tech wizards.
What racing series was that taken from? Woodman has got some huge ones to make that pass with his wheels in the dirt! I love watching that commercial, and would love to see the whole race from that on-board go-pro.
@elibaba7 doesn't mean they can't sponsor a F1 driver and slap their decals on it It's what pretty much every big business does in Nascar, It's not like they have to buy a car with their decals on it
@11ari11 unlike the asphalt, the grass isn't smooth and even so its less grip if you get one tire on the grass (Although this guy didn't loss grip because his tyre was already lifted off the ground, but thats a different story in itself). Also since these cars are so low off the ground that if you whole car gets on the grass, the unevenness of the grass will damage the underside of the car. But hey sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to make a pass :P

You are completely wrong. In multi-class series the slower car always has the right to turn in when someone dives in like that. If they were side by side earlier it'd be a safe, clean pass. But diving in like that just expecting the other car to move is idiotic.

I wish go pro sponsored every day people, my boyfriend drools over this camera every time he sees it at the mall and has so many ideas for it lol.
