0:00 Introduction: What is dental plaque?
1:33 Dental plaque formation
1:50 Dental plaque biofilms
2:25 Fluoride
4:17 Dental plaque remedies
In this video, I’m going to tell you how to stop dental plaque formation in its tracks. Dental plaque is a biofilm of microbes. A biofilm is a calcium shell built to protect a group of microbes. Plaque is one of the primary causes of gingivitis, bad breath, and tooth decay. You can brush and floss regularly and still get plaque!
Your mouth contains the second-largest group of microbes in your body. The majority of these microbes are known as commensal, so they’re not necessarily friendly but also not unfriendly. If you kill them, you could end up with a candida infection or oral thrush.
Plaque develops when this friendly relationship turns into a pathogenic relationship. Dental plaque biofilms can develop under stress! Poor diet, sugar consumption, smoking, alcohol, and antibiotics can also contribute to dental plaque formation.
Certain chemicals can mimic antibiotics in the mouth. Ironically, chlorhexidine, the main chemical in mouthwash, mimics antibiotics in the mouth. It also increases acidity and the risk of tooth decay.
Fluoride is in the majority of toothpastes and our water supply. It’s been around for 60 years, but there have never been any randomized controlled trials on fluoride in our water.
Fluoride is not controlled by the FDA, CDC, EPA, or the American Dental Association-it's controlled by a private entity. It’s best to filter your water to remove fluoride.
You’ll want to get the good microbes back into your mouth to remove dental plaque. Consume probiotic-rich foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, and kefir.
If you chew gum, make sure to choose xylitol gum.

Dr Berg for the last three to four years my health has severely started deteriorating. More recently I’ve been experiencing significant low neck pain, upper back and shoulder pain.. joint pain, hip pain, internal aches and woke up every morning feeling like a dumpster fire. I saw your video about you getting an infected tooth removed and it cleared your pain and I thought i wonder if my dental care is contributing to this since NOTHING was helping. I didn’t have tooth pain. Got X-rays and sure enough I had an upper molar with a huge cyst in my sinus cavity. I had oral surgery Monday and literally my body feels 90% better! Your videos turn on light bulbs for us. I never would have correlate the two! Thank you

I have less than that, only a crooked tooth that hurts, and my shoulders are in pain, and can't restfully sleep. That's like the thorn in my eye since it's like a nail thats poking out from a wall. It even stops me from talking much because it bothers me.
Hello, so glad you are feeling better and the information was helpful. Thanks for sharing here. Keep up the good work!

They were even selling fluoride baby water. Shocking how long people can get away with crimes in the this country.
This country? Is all over the world man. Here in my country Chile, the levels of fluoride and chloride are huge in the water. And the most disgusting thing about it, is that in the south we have the purest rivers and lakes, so there is NO NEED for such things!

I had my teeth cleaned last week. My hygienist insisted on using a fluoride treatment and I refused. She went on to question me as to why I was against it. When I told her what I think about fluoride she got upset, then I showed her which toothpaste I'm using since she says my oral health is getting better and better. She got even more upset when she saw there's no fluoride in it 😂 and proceeded to give me one that contains fluoride.
Her indoctrination is complete. 😢

Uh oh what's up with fluoride?
I brush my teeth only with distilled water and I don’t have tartar or plaque around my teeth. I think it has something to do with tap water. Thank you for shedding light on Flouride. I’ve wanted to get a whole house distiller and I only drink distilled water as well. I do eat a lot of veggies and fruit as well and that’s where I get my minerals.
Funny u mention this, I put distilled water in a spray bottle yesterday and sprayed some on my toothbrush n toothpaste this a.m. while brushing. I'm curious to find out how it works out as far as plaque
I do the same... Just started (a few months ago) using distilled water when brushing my teeth. Something in my spirit just said to start that. Thank you for saying that.
Same, and I only drink distilled water. I don't need, or trust some water company adding big bags of minerals to their water.
Coconut oil, baking soda and Redmonds salt for me. No tartar. Of course, I eat no artificial or processed foods either.
do you use toothpaste? or only distilled water? thats crazy
I brush my teeth with toothpaste and a drop of tea tree oil. The last 6 trips (6 years) when I go for a cleaning the hygienist just praises me and says "There's nothing to clean" . I swear by this.
Whattttt tea tree oil ! Never knew you could even use it in the mouth

Three months ago I had a deep cleaning to remove a good layer of calculus on my teeth. After two weeks I went back to my hygienist and he said there’s already a buildup of calculus. I was mortified. I assured him I was doing everything he suggested I do. He had a puzzled look on his face. I had to do my own research and found couple options. I already live a very carnivorous life, I only eat meats, drink water and occasionally kimchi here and there. I got rid of my fluoride toothpaste, listerine mouthwash and got a different floss (non ribbon style) I have been using a toothpaste with nano-hydroxyapatite and made my own concoction of mouthwash using xylitol and three drops of food grade peppermint oil. After meals I chew xylitol gum, and holy moly, after four weeks, calculus no more. Also the sensitivities I had on several of my teeth, it’s no longer there. 😮
That is so good to know…I wondered if a carnivore diet alone would help the plaque! But not the case! So, from my understanding it was the fluoride. Thxs for sharing, greatly appreciate.👍
@@lindachallenger1554For me it was just a personal choice to stop incorporating fluoride in my daily routine. So I am now using toothpaste with Nano-hydroxyapatite which does a similar job as fluoride but in my opinion is safer. Was fluoride the sole factor for my calculus problem? No! That is not what I meant. My oral microbiom was out of whack and I believe xylitol is the reason my calculus has not returned.
@@photomaker4502What brand of toothpaste?
You may want to avoid the nano-hydroxyapatite, it is not good. instead go for this brand 'OraWellness Shine" which uses non-nano hydroxyapatite, get it from RadiantLife. Also can you tell u smore about the floss, what other type is there besides the non ribbon?
You can gargle salt water as a mouthwash it works perfectly for me
My husband and I have been married for over forty years and of course use the same water and eat pretty much the same foods, except my husband eats way more sugar! I asked our hygienist why his report is always excellent and why I always have a lot of plaque. She told me that some people just naturally make more plaque than others.??🤷♀️
Sugars and carbs cause plaque.
Clean carnivore diet.
It's true. The only thing that works for me is brushing lightly 2-3 times a day and then the key here is to rinse with a little listerine or booze. Kidding about booze but I bet the alcohol would work too. (grin) Anyway, Listerine is probably terrible for your mouth but as an expert on plaque its the only thing that keeps it in check for me. ive been dealing with since adolescence. Tried it all even what berg mentioned. Tried full carni, you name it. Genetic. Dentist every 4 months and Listerine keep me plaque free. Maybe will help you if still an issue
It has to do a lot with mouth ph which varies from person to person; breathing habits, saliva composition, etc. And what bacteria live in your mouth as well im sure. One way in which fermented foods make a difference is that they are acidic; which is a great way to get rid of tartar. It dissolves it really fast; but not only your tartar of course. I started restricting my fermented food intake last year when I got very sensitive teeth due to thinning enamel. I was able to reverse that in a few months luckily; but sure enough my tartar buildup also went up. The dissolution vs precitipation of calcium in your mouth is a balance; and frankly id rather be a bit on the tartar-accumulating side of things. If you buy the right tools (soft metals, no hard steels) you can teach yourself to remove tartar safely, and its nothing too bothersome.

Jons Hopkins have a study on rats teeth which became more brittle after fluoridisation. The study happened about 100 years ago after it was noticed in the 1800s that fluoride attaches to the skeleton which is the body's way of shunting it to a part of the body that will not make the soft tissues toxic. The study attempted to establish whether or not fluoride strengthened bones by that affinity but fluoride is less dense than calcium, therefore it could be a contributory factor toward osteoporosis. In India there is a lot of naurally occurring fluoride in the ground and most often it is women who suffer from skeletal malformation of that.

I used to work in a laboratory. One of the most dangerous acids some of our researchers used what Hydrofluoric Acid. You have to take extreme precautions when using it because it is highly volatile and loves to embed itself in bones and teeth. It can not be handled like any of the other acids because it will cause so much damage to the body in a tiny drop. It also will eat through glass. I try to stay away from anything that has fluoride in it. I can't imagine that it beneficial to the body in the amounts present in tap water, or toothpaste.
Thanks 🍁. Appreciate the hard research Dr. Berg.

A regular filter won’t remove fluoride. It’s such a tiny particle a special type of filter is required
Reverse osmosis is the only one😢
Carbon filter should remove it
I also heart that about the particle size! I did some research about the few filters that might be able to filter it out but ppl complained a lot about the aluminum taste of the filtered water 🤷🏽♀️
Hi Dr. Berg. Thank you for another wonderful video.

So glad it helped, thanks for watching.
What water filtration system do you use, Dr. Berg?
Thank you Doc, greatly appreciated !
I watched a documentary on fluoride is a byproduct from making aluminum and they had a problem getting rid of this byproduct and came up with the ideal solution by putting it in the water.
Now that is evil, person who allowed it was in the health department, over it, was also part of the corporations making the fertilisers
I’d like to watch it, what is it called?
Holy shyt I just asked Chat GPT and you are right 😳
You:
Is it true that industry is putting the flouride byproduct into water to get rid of it?
ChatGPT:
Yes, that's correct. Fluoride compounds, including those generated as byproducts in industrial processes like aluminum production, are sometimes added to public water supplies as a means of fluoridation. This practice is intended to improve dental health by reducing tooth decay. However, the addition of fluoride to drinking water is a subject of debate and can vary by location and local regulations.
ChatGPT can make mistakes. Consider checking important
Yes, you’re right, that which is dumped into our water supply and used in dentistry is sodium fluoride, a byproduct of aluminium product, however, it’s not being dumped in our water supply just by chance they know exactly what it does it lowers the IQ and it’s subdued the masses that used to use it against the Jews in Germany. Not to be confused with naturally occurring calcium fluoride.
@@melanieculver7610 going to have to research that and will get back with you. At work now.
NOT A RECOMMENDATION SINCE DENTAL CARE DIFFERS IN THE WORLD. I'm a Swedish dentist. We recommend fluoride be used every day when brushing your teeth (morning and evening) and even more if you have active caries. But don't swallow it! Fluoride, just like salt and H2O, can be deadly in high doses, but beneficial in the right dosage/exposure (although salt and H2O are necessary for our survival..., fluoride is not). There are many homes in the world where the development of the teeth is affected in a bad way because of too much fluoride in the drinking water - most of the time, they have their own well. There are also many who suffer because of lack of fluoride exposure, with Caries (tooth decay) as a result - leading to treatments like fillings, root canal treatments, crowns, dentures and extractions (extractions is the only treatment where you don't put in exogenous material...). Your teeth benefit from fluoride, so the best way to use fluoride is to only expose the the teeth and not swallow it. So as long as there is not too much fluoride in the drinking water and you don't swallow the applied fluoride meant for your teeth - you should be fine.
Also, fluoride i recommended to prevent caries, but how often and what you eat affects if you get cavities or not also - by a lot. There is of course genetics in play regarding cavities as well as our saliva differs...
Tartar depends on your saliva composition (mostly genetic) and oral hygiene.
Probiotics never helped my gum disease tbh. I’ve had gum disease as long as I can remember. Using a water flosser before brushing with a non fluoride remineralizing toothpaste, and using a higher quality floss (coco floss) has been a total game changer for me. The water flosser in particular. It’s like pressure washing my teeth and gums before I brush. For the first time I’m no longer having bleeding and my hygienist is thrilled with my progress.
Always incredibly helpful
Thank you so much, I'm really glad that I could be of help!

Can you please make a video dedicated to root canals and whether or not their okay to have? I’m only asking because the day I had my first root canal is the day I started experiencing major health issues and I’m unsure if it’s related or not.
They are absolutely related to further health problems. A lot of new evidence coming out to show the link. Mental problems, pain issues, and many more.
Watch out as dentists do not consider root canals serious. They are. I had some problems with my teeth. Dentist recommended 3 root canals. Left office, researched. Studied when RC needed. Infection. Had none. Pain. Had none. Asked dentist what indicated infection, to show me on X-ray. There was none. What could he say? Visits later, he remarked, “well, since you don’t like root canals . . .” What does that mean? They are taught to push root canals, me thinks.
I would pull tooth, probably consider the old method, bridge. Have to find dentist who still does that. But it worked for decades, didn’t it?
Don’t think much of implants either.

I had two bridges put in, and in order for the bridge to fit, they grind down the teeth that the. bridge sits on, then you have to get root canals on the teeth that are little stubs close to the nerves. I asked him if they can cause pain within the body and he said “ absolutely, the body is one long wire”. Fast forward years later and he say that it’s not and that he doesn’t remember me saying that. I only need the truth because every time I go somewhere or get an x-ray done, they note something small, then when I come back for a follow up, all of a sudden it’s gone. This has happened many times and due to that I suspect that they are hiding things from me and displacing blame saying it’s something else and that they’re not involved. Since having my first ever root canal, I have been experiencing chronic inflammation 24/7 and it feels like my organs are being stabbed by a thousand knives radiating throughout my body (all except my right leg for whatever reason) I had blood work done and my ENA screen came back detected. Also something about positive anti body. My doctor told me that my body is basically fighting itself which I had already known. The pain itself never changes, it’s always a 7/10 for me and what makes it worse how the pain is affecting me i.e. respiratory distress, digestive issues, unable to concentrate etc. I tried many medication, foods, remedies etc., none helped because something is causing my pain simultaneously. Only a local anesthetic to my left side of jaw reliefs the nerve which in turn relieved almost all my pain (my root canals where done on the bottom right molars). I thought adjusting the root canal tooth again would help because most often I bite and clench on the right side of my jaw as if I’m trying to get rid of a scratch I can’t itch. At first I thought it was excess material although I’m always told it has plenty of space between the nerve and tooth. Is this feeling a result of referred pain? There were many occasions in which local anesthesia would be injected into my left nerve trunk and that temporary relieves the pain. I’m left confused with all this. I understand nerves are complicated and I can’t rely on where I feel the pain because it’s in multiple areas of my body. I’m only focused on my mouth because that’s when it started and there were times of relief(temporary as it been) in my body as-well. Does anybody know what I should do because based on this I’m unsure whether or not the cause is the root canal or something else because both side are telling me otherwise. I know the teeth and heart are connected and I feel like a constant stabbing sensation in my body (with the exception of my right leg). I hope Dr. Berg can help me with this problem.
Thank you for this good information. You are a great help.
Isn't daily oil pulling with any one of oils like, cold pressed sesame oil, coconut oil, ground nut oil and brushing later would prevent plaque dr eric?
Damn man i love you're videos your awesome
Collier county FL banned fluoride in water supply
When?
Lee county as well? My children live there.
@@user-wh4sf7qg3g no not Lee yet. I think Collier was approved earlier this year or late last year.
Dr. Berg which whole house filter do you use?
I was watching another video of yours and started using xylitol toothpaste. It's only been 3 days but so far so good!
Ive always had a large saliva production and very healthy teeth does saliva protect your teeth in any way? Or is it just that a larger amount of fluid than normal washes away a lot of bad agents from your mouth as you swallow? Or maybe the saliva encapsulates it preventing it from acting?
Yup - saliva helps keep the teeth mineralized and helps to "wash away" acidic substances in the food and liquids we consume 😊.
Edward Bernays helped the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) and other special interest groups to convince the American public that water fluoridation was safe and beneficial to human health. This was achieved by using the American Dental Association in a highly successful media campaign.
Thank you for talking about fluoride. Maybe a video about this to educate others and help them understand.
Hello. Check out my videos here on fluoride: www.youtube.com/@Drberg/search?query=fluoride
@@Drberg Thank you very much. xo
Thank you very much for commenting on fluoride. I had dental surgery two weeks ago and was actually contemplating going back on a fluoride toothpaste. Right now I am using Heimei Charcoal toothpaste and it works great for me. But the dentist insisted I use a fluoride toothpaste and I was thinking about it. But I've made up my mind: I'm sticking to my herbal charcoal toothpaste!
Can you recommend a good brand toothpaste without fluoride?

His Homemade Toothpaste Recipe From the Linked Video:
1) 1 tsp cold-pressed virgin organic coconut oil
2) 1/2 tsp Aluminum-Free Baking Soda
3) 1/4 tsp 3% food-grade Hydrogen Peroxide
4) 3-Drops Cinnamon, Clove or Mint Oil
thanks auntie..saved me 5 minutes of my life
I do quite the same!
2 Tablespoons Coconut oil
3 Tablespoons Baking Soda
1 teaspoon 3% Hydrogenperoxid
But it does not help me to get rid of the already existing tartar😩
You need to get highest quality coconut oil like coco earth brand. It works..@@whoknows8223
Hydrogen peroxide would cause immediate free-radical oxidative stress in your mouth, I would not use it on a daily basis
@@unsu-os I do for almost 2 years. Teeth are whiter and smoother than they ever were with supermarket toothbrush. I'll stick with it
