    I’ve had one for a few years with the extra pack of magnets. I use it a lot. All my corners were exactly 90 degrees, even after shipping to northern Alberta, Canada. Thanks for the video. I’m always interested in more tools & new ideas.

    I use computer case door with " Science Museum Mechanics Laboratory " Roadster and Dragster kit.Like meccano but thick plastic. Meccano I use as well but the SMML has 90 degree parts that are 9mm square I drill holes bigger to take powerful magnets glued into the plastic holes. Great for making jigs and holding awkward part to dry.

    Outstanding. I'd enjoy it even if I didn't do any model railroading.

    It is a cool tool. Good point about checking for square. I made my own from some plate steel and bar stock. Used a vertical mill to make it dead on true.
    You asked about the one tool I can not do without..hmm tough one..#11 exacto???, good pair of rail nippers??, good quality soldering setup?? Cant just pick one..just like you cant pick your favorite child..lol
    Keep up the good work.

    Ron, just starting watching your channel in earnest. Lionel Strange gave you a shout-out on the last What's Neat This Week (Ken Patterson and Co.) and thought I would check you out. I'm a stickler for quality production and your videos certainly hit the mark. Quick note on the gluing jig: I bought one of these as well but the thing was so out of square, I returned it for a replacement. MicroMark customer service is very easy to work with.
    Thanks and looking forward to catching up on your videos!

      @RonsTrainsNThings  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Robert. Welcome to the channel. Yes, Lionel is a good frined. Sorry to hear about the out-of-square gluing jig. I've not heard of anyone having that problem. Mine is very much in square and I use it all the time. Thanks for the comment on video quality. I am pure amateur, but I really try to keep the quality high and continually improving. I hope to continue to see you around here.

    what type of glue and process do you use for white metal kits. Pat Rivard

    • @RonsTrainsNThings

      +patrick rivard I don't do much with white metal except a few details, but when I do I use CA. (Sorry if that sounded like a Dos Equis commercial).

    So I bought a micro mark jig as you suggest. I got 8 magnets with two steel plates. On all 8, one of the steel plates is not attached. It has to be intentional. Any explanation why? Seems to make squaring much harder.

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine are the same way. I'm not sure why. If you lay the magnets flat they work best, in which cars the absence of one steel plate doesn't matter. Someone suggested to me that I could epoxy the other plate on, but I have never done so.

    Ron I got to say ,I saved my money,for around 10$ including 20 magnets I built my own..no offence Micro Mark seems like a good store but to someone with very limited funds 25$+ is a bit steep..

  • @samodelrail6976

    With my fat fingers and old eyes I need tweezers and a good magnifying glass. I don't know how you guys do it in N scale!

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SA ModelRail I will confess that it can be tedius at times. I am getting to where my bifocals aren't enough--I'm about ready to invest in a magnifier. But you can suggest a lot of detain in N scale and trick they eye into seeing what isn't really there, plus you can do so much more in the same space. That and the sheer challenge ( N scale is less than 20% of the mrr market) are why my experiment in N scale 20 years ago stuck.

    • @samodelrail6976
      @samodelrail6976 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a layout idea but considering my space, it would only be feasible in N. That has scared me off so it is good to see people who have done it successfully. Thanks.

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SA ModelRail Honestly that's how I got started in N. I was young and moved evry couple years and was going to be years away from being able to build a reasonabke HO layout as I planned, so I tried N to build something portable to "tide me over"...and it still is after 20 years.
