  • This Sealey micro wrench is a great option for EDC. It covers as many bases as you need it to and is really well made.

    Nice and handy. Never seen the screwdriver option on a ratchet!

      It's an ideal option, the in-line option coupled with the ratchet make it really useful.

    Also sold under the brand Sabrecut, with or without bits.
    It's well worth it just as a basic EDC pocket driver, I bought it primarily for it's inline driver capability, the ratchet function is an added bonus. It's not what I'd use for working on an engine as you suggested, I have larger more heavy ratchets with sockets for that. But for odd EDC jobs and also roadside adjustment on a bike it's perfect, using Allen bits as well as driver bits for bike jobs.
    As an inline driver it's way better than most of the Gucci designer EDC drivers like County Comm/Maratac, James Brand Cache River, CRKT Stash Driver (can't get enough torque or grip,), or the Lever Gear Bit Vault (serious quality issues and usage limitations).
    Regarding a bit extender, the most common ones are around 50mm/2 inches so easily pocketable. If you carry this with one of those you actually go from 2 to 6 possible configurations:-
    1/2: Flat ratchet and inline stubby as you showed
    3: rachet with extender
    4: extended inline
    5. flat ratchet with bit in ratchet, and extender in end of handle, for more leverage/ torque
    6: stubby inline with the extender in the ratchet socket, as an L shaped driver for more torque
    Disadvantage is it's a bit heavy at 59g/2oz, the same as a Victorinox Spartan or Compact. Add a small extender and 2 bits and you're up to 88g or 3 oz, that's the same weight as a Victorinox Farmer and more than a Super Tinker.
    If I want a lighter carry but without ratchet driver function, I carry the Wera 813 bit holder handle in my 5th pocket. It's about the size of a Bic lighter and only weighs 29g/1oz. Wera 50mm extender, & PH2 and slot bits add an ounce/30g. But if you leave out the extender and just add 2 x 50mm bits it's a bit lighter at 50g total, but you lose the stubby driver option. A 50mm double ended bit would be ideal for minimalism but most of them won't sit securely, I'm still looking for one where the hex shank goes all the way up to the bit itself, there's a DeWalt one like this but I haven't found it anywhere yet.
    If you shop around you can get a Wera 813 driver handle for around a tenner including delivery (ebay). The quality and durability is about as good as it gets for such a small driver, far better than those designer pocket jewellery drivers which cost a lot more.
    Both the Sealey and Wera drivers are great to carry with a pair of Knipex Cobra XS and a folding pocket knife such as Spyderco Urban/UKPK, and that setup beats the pants off a Leatherman Skeletool.

      Some awesome advice and tips there mate.
      I'm the same as you, sometimes this tool, a knife and the Knipex are enough. Add in a torch too and most bases are covered.

      Hey Simon 👊
      Great feedback, and I agree with most of what you said, buddy 👌
      It would be great to see 👀 you do some videos on general EDC, Tools or 'How To' videos, like working on sections of your engine with the tools you mentioned etc, that would be cool - come on, give a go! 😉

    Oh, neat. I recently bought something similar, but non-ratchet, it's basically an L shaped driver with bit holders at either end. I might pick one of these up too, a small ratchet would come in handy.

    • @SussexEDC
      @SussexEDC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I considered something like that too. Victorinox make a good one with a bit holder. This ratchet makes a good option for sure.

    Brother Sussex 💪
    I really enjoyed that, my friend 👌
    I'm not often surprised by a 'new' product, great design, and IMO especially useful for EDC - I'm getting one! 😉
    Being a carpenter most of my life, then trained to get my City & Guilds level 2 in Electrics & Plumbing + all the secondary skills I acquired over the years from other craftsman, like tiling, brickwork, decorating, plastering and there's more... 😁
    I could literally build a house 🏠 by myself from the footings to the roof.
    My point is that I had hundreds of tools 🔧 and never seen this one, so a nice surprise!
    Since I've been teaching building crafts for 5 years, and not so much 'on the tools' - you lose touch of up & coming stuff, so I just wanted to say thank you, Ant 🍻
    Stay awesome,
    Atb Gus 👍

    I've been using mines for over six months, bought it from the brand Ares Tool.
    It's by far my favorite bit driver ever, because it allows me to use Wiha dual sided bits on the ratchet end, and regular bits on the other side, also as you mentioned with an extension, it gives extra reach on either sides or more leverage for the ratchet too!

    • @SussexEDC
      @SussexEDC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome, glad you've found it as useful as I have. It definitely one of the most discreet and functional solutions for an EDC screwdriver I've found so far.

    I've got a little ratchet like this 1/4 from autozone but it's extremely limited on Philips style screw heads because they are designed to push you out if you aren't putting down enough force to prevent stripping of the lobs so even if you do it multiple times it doesn't really matter more like a warning you still gnarl the lobs. You need to put allot of down force to get something stubborn.
