BENJAMIN: There are elements of memoir, but I would not call it a traditional memoir. I did go back into my personal history, but there's a lot of other sort of forays into comedy bits. And, you know, I think the personal stories that I tell in my life I think sort of do add up to say that you can fail and fail and fail again and continue to move forward. And it's not a prescription for success at the end of that - not a rainbow I guess but a dark cloud. But I hope for the best for the reader."*

The amount of people in the comments here who don’t know that Sam and Jon are long time friends and that this is a joke interview is stunning and disappointing quite frankly.
I'm a new watcher and know of Benjamin already so the first few minutes before I scrolled down to check these comments was quite weird hahah, don't be surprised that people aren't aware these two are close friends lol

That's the great part....reading the comments because this kind of comedy the joke is on the *audience,* and the comedians get to laugh at *them.* That's why it doesn't play well on a screen...when we really need to watch (or read, in this case) the effect on the viewers who don't get it... *that's* where the laughs are. Andy Kaufman built his whole career on this type of comedy.
Jonathan- The ones who don't get it proves the success of the routine. If it weren't for them, there would be no laughs.

As a Jew, reading the comments I can see that most of you have never been involved in a belittling guilt-tripathon like this before. It can only be done with the best of friends that know each other very well, and are comfortable talking shit. Its basically the Jewish version of a yo-mammafest. This was a pretty brilliant bit if you know what youre watching.
As a not Jew, I can't believe no one has heard of Andy Kaufman. Routines like this was his bread-and-butter. He perfected "The joke's on the audience so I can laugh" brand of awkward humor. Andy is the O.G. of uncomfortable comedy. And yes, brilliant is the correct description.

It's also kind of a sad demonstration that the people making those comments are about twice as dense as a neutron star when it comes to humor.
@@0okamino nope it was believable. Sam and Jon know they are doing a deadpan thing that is basically right on the line between seeming real and being obviously a comedy bit. So it’s so close to the line that there’s like a high room for error on either side of the line

Omg I only recently started watching/listening to Sam Seder and I could not figure out why his voice was so familiar, this is fantastic!
That's not the joke. The joke is that they're longtime friends and worked in comedy together, and they do this partly to insult each other in jest and partly to try to get the other one to laugh.

This is so awkward that I can hardly believe it isn't staged improv. I'm 8 minutes in and still can't tell if they're both being serious and sincere. It really doesn't help that it's Bob/Archer's voice talking to Sam. This is fantastic either way.
Its totally improv, i made the same mistake, it takes a really dark turn though when Jon's brother in law's grandfather's dog's new owner calls into the show after Plucky the Blind Poodle was rendered so distraught by Sam and Jon's kerfluffle that she ran out the doggy door and proceeded to echo locate a semi truck wheel and hitchhike via asphalt pancake portal to Doggy Heaven.
Staged or not, Sams anger is 100% real
