Little known fact: 6 is not a number, it's a free man.

Those computer tapes were just running between rolling guides, too. There were no read/write/erase heads. Of course, that just makes the whole program that much more surreal. Nothing could actually work the way they show it. In one episode, the prisoner is being harassed through his counter-top radio. He unplugs it. It keeps working. He smashes it on the floor, and parts fly out. It keeps working.

Awesome Chris, big Prisoner fans here. Can't believe that the last time I saw that episode was in 1999 and the first time I saw an Olivetti Summa Prima was 2020, so I never made the connection. Spent many happy days photographing at Portmeirion, the film set for the Prisoner series.

I remembered this series the other day when I watched the movie "Dog Day Afternoon" starring Al Pacino. There are various adding machines in the background of the bank scenes. You can even see some of them in the trailer...

Yes watched it recently! Those are super-rare big format banking machines. They weren’t meant for general use, so they didn’t make many and they’re not well documented now. Plus no closeups! I couldn’t identify a single one.

Yeah, man! I've been there, it has a strange history and is worth a visit in every case! A weird location but with real hotel rooms, restaurants, nice flowers and plants, overall it has a stunning mediterranean air to it. And then was used as set location, superb idea! The location fits the surreal story perfectly because mediterranean style buildings in North Wales are surreal, too. Nice video! I'd appreciate more on this topic.

Fun fact about the Olivetti: It has a rotating drumbrake with a cork brakepad in it to brake the back motion of the handle. Ask me, how I know. Now look at a slightly obese guy, in his living room, surrounded by a deconstructed Olivetti, cutting pieces out of his wife's cork place settings. Seriously, a cork drumbrake. How can you not love that tech?!

Surprised you haven't done the movie Hidden Figures yet. You'd have a field day. Mostly Friden calculators.
