Wouldn't that make the grip differential between front and back even greater and therefore make the car more dependent on the spin direction of the front wheels?
this reminds me of when my high school auto shop teacher rebuilt his opel rear end and accidentally installed the gears backwards... 4 reverses 1 forward...
When I was younger one of my friends wanted to lower his Ford Ranger so he tried flipping the back axle so it would sit on the bottom of the leaf springs instead of the top and the truck went backwards
I am a car guy and I'm very mechanically inclined and it was actually quite funny how long I sat there trying to work out axle rotation and doubting that this would happen if you flipped the axle.. 😂 About 5 minutes of thinking and waving my hands around in the air later, and I concur, flipping the axle would indeed make the axles reverse their direction. It defies the kneejerk response my brain has, but yep. The physics works out.. lmao
They managed to do American style burnouts but with 4wd. Nice job. Imagine the tire smoke doing that on something with a lot more power and locking differentials.
UAZ made anniversary models of this 469 and the van in 2017 and 2018 respectively - but in very limited quantities. 60 year anniversary for this 469 is in 2032 and 75 for the van in 2033 - perhaps these are the years you would hope for - the 469 had 469 pieces made for the anniversary. UAZ did update the cars to current safety and eco standarts, and added a few more extras and horsepowers, but externally they are basically indistinguishable - and kept the spirit for those on the seats. Considering the limited amount of cars made, they were very cheap - and have absolutely no competitors on the offroading side at that price.
Now reverse all differential so that would make 4or5 reverse speed and 1 forward speed. edit: if you do this, do a top speed edit 2: you should to it on the 4 engines lada
If they don't change gear ratios then the reverse top speed should be the same as forward was before the flip. Although it will be a pain to keep straight in reverse.
I would love one of them ol' beasties, years ago I had a Niva and it was the most capable 4wd for its size, sadly rust broke the poor things back, kinda helped along driving it in the sea edge along beaches prob didn't help but I do love them ex military UAZ's, old Soviet stuff is just so brutish and tough looking hehe
As a matter of fact UAZ did release anniverary models of the 469 you see and the van in 2017 and 2018 respectively - they put 120 horsepower engines, added a few extras and updated the vehicles to current european eco and safety standarts - however external design remains unchanged - and unspoiled, even the driver's panel remains metal. However I'll spoil you any excitement - I dunno bout the van but the 469s were 469 in total. Nivas were also updated a few years ago with the exterior remaining almost unchanged, they have a bit more plastic now, still an air conditioner should be welcome for most people. The Nivas aren't... well they should actually be considered anniversary as it released in 1977 if I recall correctly, but I dunno if there's way to import these now with NATO and their colonies placing embargo on Russia. Perhaps you should wait for the 75 year anniversary of the van UAZ in 2033 - by the way the current new price on the said cars is way below any competition they have regarding off-roading.
So the next step is to try this with some directional tread tires but flip the tires around on one side and see how fast you can get it moving sideways.
My lada I drive in today, 21057 , from year 1988, the gearbox so worn, the synchromesh of 1th and 3th gears, is destroyed. Driving like this means he will grind every time I go to 3th unless exactly 43kmph, and 1th will not enter at all sometimes when I stop him. Makes driving difficult for certain! No downshifting to overtake)
Not really. Look for the UAZ in EU country. The car must be at least 30 years old and hawe certificate A clas for old timer. You can inport it for smal amount of money then. Prices for good ones are around 4.000 to 5.000 € you can get solid one for around 3.500€ then you hawe shiping cost and onport taxses in U.S.
There is brand new UAZ made recently, they're OK, but no in USA or most Europe However there are Lada Niva that much more offroader, older low model have 4WD at least and reliable. They made recent and in today, but with differential lock, snorkel winch many other off road feature and sold in Canada from my understand, also smaller for shipping)
www.pobedamotors.com/uaz-luaz You can import them if they are 25 years old. I'm assuming it would be hell to get parts. I've tried contacting several countries for parts when I was trying to rebadge my old minivan to a Opel and could not find anyone to send me the parts I needed at any cost
UAZ did make anniversary pieces in 2017 of this 469, but they were 469 in total. These were upgraded to current standarts, but are completely indistinguishable externally and mostly in the cabin from original one from 1972 - the anniversary ones are upgrade over the original and their non-inflated price made them look like a steal - but in such limited quantities I wouldn't hope to own one of those, and I'm in Europe. You know what, wait for 2032 - guess we'll all have to send a letter to UAZ they make a bit more anniversaries and hope they don't inflate their prices - so that we can afford it.
That UAZ is really cool. I’ve never seen one in the USA before. It would be cool to get one and 4BT swap it. No one would have anything like it around anywhere.
Hey Garage 54, you should put tracks on that UAZ, That could be an interesting series, and afterwards you would have a mean of road machine plus something to finish the cars with before you take them to the scrap yard.
You know I had a customer some into the shop one day saying his truck had an anti theft device that was put on by the factory. It wouldn't stay in first unless you tried to hold it. I feel like it's the same thing here. User error 😂 but seriously love the video's you all do thanks for putting them in English
Should try to develop a separate transfer case that is independent of the original one ( or reverse two of them )so you can do this at random on ice or snow to freak people out. This way you can still have your normal vehicle for normal use.
You can't 'accidentally' flip an axle in a vehicle. And to restate a comment I put on another one of this guys videos... these guys come up with the craziest shit.
Reminds me a bit like a ZETA car made in the 60's in South Australia You turned the ignition key one way for reverse so it had 4 speed forward and then turn the key opposite for 4 reverse . . Cheers from Adelaide South Australia .
Nice anti-theft device.

Randy Miracle It is an UAZ it is a pain to keep it straight even when drive forward.
Since the car has to be in reverse to go forward, why not put it in other gears and see how fast you can go backwards? :)
