- #garbagetruck Here is the first Electric Garbage truck to hit the streets of Orange County! 2550EV is the first electric ZR McNeilus has developed and you may notice this truck has a lot of various changes to the body compared to other ZRs, most noticeable is the battery behind the cab and the added on part to the hopper with the McNeilus plate. The driver of the truck mentioned he is able to do a whole route without having to recharge midday which was interesting to hear as other electric trucks on the market right now don’t have enough battery to last a whole day without having to charge. This truck is super quiet compared to its CNG counterparts, pretty interesting to see a truck where the arm is louder then the truck itself. I am glad I was able to catch the truck on its first few weeks on route while it’s still fresh and I am a big fan of the added chrome on the truck.
Big thanks to the driver for letting us record and letting us checkout the truck. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
To be honest, this might be a electric truck that I actually like. It makes little noise, and surprising that it can last a whole route without a recharge. Great video bro!
Huge thanks to Santa Ana for giving that truck to the Anaheim yard👍🤝
Anaheim services Santa Ana
As others have said, they've definitely made advances over the past few years! I'm very pleased to see it can do a whole route without having to go back and recharge. The battery box is also well placed, not taking up any room along the sides of the chassis. McNeilus and Pete did a great job designing the truck to actually look like a regular truck and not something totally out of 2030. Great video!
Thats what Im sayin!
in my opinion this has been the best electric truck setup by far. looks super nice compared to the others and as you mentioned the placement of the battery box. thank you!
@@DanielWDonuts yessir
nice vid! one of the first electric trucks thats actually entertaining to watch and doesn't look like a bus
Dang that’s even quieter than a Tesla when the arm’s not moving. Love the McNeilus logo on the grey plate above the cab, really stands out. One of the few full videos of a ZR I might actually watch. Neat find!
Even though I’m not a fan of ZRs all too much. This one actually impresses me to an extent the fact the arm is the only thing making noise. Good work.
Honestly it looks pretty good with a peterbilt cab instead of those weird euro cabs. Very cool find and its super quiet instead! Keep up the great work!
Agreed
Best Electric Garbage Truck I have seen, And it doesnt look shitty either, You couldnt tell its electric if sound was off lol. Good video
Woah, I like it its smooth and fast yet quiet.
shut up
wow just wow! Im super surprised on how smooth it runs! McNeilus did a fantastic job of making an EV side loader, and paired with the 520EV it just works super well! I wont be surprised of more of these exact body and chassis start popping up more as they seem to be working out fantastically. Awesome job with the video by the way i enjoyed watching
they will be buying more of these trucks over the next couple of years. thanks!
Great video Daniel! I remember you told me last week you wanted to find this lol. Hard to believe a garbage truck can be this quiet. Truck looks and operates nicely. Cool to finally see new Republic trucks from Anaheim with the Sustainability in Action wrap. Glad you guys were able to find this, would be interested to know if more of these will show up soon.
thanks. yea we were driving around the area and i spotted this truck out of the corner of my eye lol. we should be getting more of these trucks over the next couple years.
@@DanielWDonutswe have electric Republic services garbage trucks in Boise Idaho
All I hear is the peace and quite.. and the noice of a Mcneilus zr claw and arm
lowkey surprised with how LITTLE noise this truck produces compared to the first iteration electric trucks, and it ran well too
this is by far the best electric truck setup so far, super quiet, the pump constantly runs unlike some of the other electric trucks so you dont have to worry about a delay with the arm.
Awesome truck dude this truck is nice
Wow very beautiful truck!! Meanwhile my republic yard here in Las Vegas still gets CNGs but I wonder when they’re going to revive their first electric truck. I love the livery in this one too!
This is the only electric truck at Anaheim for now but supposedly there will be more soon.
Great video this truck is quiet
Im obsessed
I kind of liked the loud noise ngl at least they didn't put a weird euro cab but the truck is really smooth and more quiet then expected.
A garbage truck is a perfect application for an EV. Stop and go, low speed, short distance in residential areas.
Nice video
Ironically enough I got an ad for republic service while watching this
For once i actually like a electric truck
Awesome video this thing is very quiet
Nice, that’s the future right there😂
I would like to see it in action collecting garbage and see how much it can pack. Garbage is a whole different ball game.
I was struggling to hear it. That truck could sneak up on you any day. While i'm not a big fan of electric, i gotta say that mcneilus did it right. Doesn't look too ugly. and it's on a regular chassis.
Nice!
This truck is so quiet that it's starting to put me to sleep.
I've been curious about this for a while... I was thinking that there should be a *lot* of regen... any stats on that?
Wow that is the most quiet garbage truck i have ever heard in my life. The ZR those does look a little bulky with this type of set up lol I'd rather see an electric SST haha, but not in this area, cans would be knocked over like crazy lol. Its an interesting concept but I like my noisy garbage trucks better. Great job though, did they only get one? What does the driver think of it compared to the natural gas stuff?
yea there is only 1 of these for now and the driver mentioned its much quieter compared to the CNG trucks and it accelerates a lot quicker.
@@DanielWDonutsa recycle driver in my city is supposed to test one of these soon
Yea if im not mistaken they next one they will be getting is for Garden Grove
@@DanielWDonuts ooo that’s right by me !
Looks good. I’m going to need to see some longer term trials before I can form an opinion
Cool catches Daniel! What city was this in?
Santa Ana
I’m gonna cry when the Osh Kosh batch arrives
Republic is not buying Dennis ZRs?
@@DanielWDonuts well one driver told me that they were going to buy a few Peterbilts then every CNG and EV ZR afterwards would be Dennis
They are buying the Oshkosh integrated Zrs not any dennis cabs
@@DanielWDonuts sorry I mis read
@courty1968 i thought the Osh Kosh cabs looked kind of cool, what's your opinion on it?
Nice this truck sounds like a Roblox republic garbage truck.
That’s pretty insane
What happened to LA&OC sanitation?
I cought a truck just like this today in my neighborhood in Boise 2552
Very interesting to see another electric ZR. Is 2552EV the only one?
@@DanielWDonuts I don't think 2552 is the only one
Wow! I can’t believe how quiet it is! Glad you were first to film this! Awesome video!
Thanks, took a couple tries but glad I found it
i'm assuming he does 2 loads of yard waste. what is the tonnage for each load?
I Can Hear A Little Noise From The Truck It's Probably The Motor On The Front
could u find out from the driver how many tons does it pack for yard waste?
How many hours can it run on a charge and how long does it take for a complete recharge ?
driver said he was able to do a full route without having to recharge
OK ITS NOT BAD
Atleast its isnt oshkosh cab.
What part of California was this filmed
Orange County
what city is this
The truck has a sticker with the words "Exclusively Serving the City of Santa Ana" ill let you figure it out from there.
That notification I thought that was the bus zr
Soon it will be
Not bad for a first EV truck. This truck belongs to Anaheim, not sure why it is Santa Ana? Also it is funny how residents are surprised when they see this thing running in their area
Anaheim still sends trucks to SA
The Anaheim yard pickups trash and greenwaste in Santa Ana
where’s the engine fan on this thing haha. as a republic driver myself, I have seen these in a few other installments across the us. 8:59 the corrupt customers of course with the “who’s gonna pay for it” knowing for a big company like republic this truck didn’t even make a dent in their profits. i am eager for the news report of when this thing burns down, then there goes your electric vehicles. they had a demo one up here in utah nobody would drive it, it was one of the Oshkosh ones I think
Which yard do you work for in Utah? Pretty interesting to hear about that, so far only 1 driver has run the electric truck at my yard and hes a big fan of it because of how quickly it accelerates and because of how quiet it is. Was the Oshkosh truck a demo truck or an actual republic branded one?
I run a 520/ZR for Republic. I did a 1725 lift 12 hour 3 load route yesterday. Will these stand up to that amount of demand?
Not sure about that, but the driver informed me he was able to do an entire trash route in Santa Ana without having to charge midday.
@@DanielWDonuts
I wonder how big his route is?
Here in Vegas we have monster routes and run 6 days a week. When I was in commercial FL my route was 270 lifts , 3 loads on my biggest day. I’m
Not sure if the new technology can handle our extreme demand.
My guess is around 1200 carts. Seriously 270 bins? Are they mostly stabs or pull outs?
@@DanielWDonuts
Stabs ? LOL! Out of the 270 maybe a dozen were stabs. I had 4 apartments - 28, 24, 38, 28 bins all pull out push in. The rest was all commercial mostly pull outs.
@@DanielWDonuts
Yea no way 1200 cans will work for us. I did 13 hours Friday 1500 lifts. I finished my route and was running around helping other drivers finish that either broke down or were short on hours. That’s a typical day here. We run long hours. Huge routes. And our residential trucks run Monday thru Saturday. Roll off runs 24/7/365. Commercial runs Monday thru Saturday plus a dozen Sunday routes. We just can’t afford any unproven technology here. We run too long and too hard.
DANIEL I AM REQUESTING INFORMATION ON WHERE YOU HAVE FOUND THIS VEHICLE AND YOU HAVE YET TO SLIDE THIS INFORMATION OVER. I AM DEMANDING THIS INFORMATION!
ask nicely
go to Santa Ana and look for it
There’ll be one in Garden Grove in the upcoming months

City?
the truck is branded with "Exclusively Serving The City of Santa Ana" so i will let you figure it out from there.
@@DanielWDonuts K
Lol Athens Services can't compete with that. W Republic Services
Why the hell is it so quiet?
Maybe because its an electric powered truck. they are supposed to be more quiet and run on cleaner energy compared to CNG, Diesel, etc.
This truck is always breaking down
It has had its fair share of issues, but its new technology so of course they are still working things out on this truck
Its almost completely silent the only thing i hate about electric garbage trucks

@@DanielWDonuts which Part?
People think Electric is saving the earth, but the only thing you’re doing is eliminating emissions and that’s DEBATABLE.
I could go on for days who electric vehicles are inferior to conventional, but for this specific scenario the Diesel Trucks are far more efficient. Let me explain why.
Let’s just say you had a garbage truck that had fuel tank shaped like a 1-gallon milk jug and obviously held one gallon of fuel. If you wanted to convert that truck to fully electric with the same power capacity, you would need 140 Coke can sized battery cells to compare to that gallon jug of gas. When you have a 50 gallon truck, where the tank can easily be mounted behind the cab or near the side steps, you now need multiple large battery packs to fit 7,000 Coke can size battery cells. That takes up a tremendous amount of room and adds enormous amounts of weight. Add the massive drive motors and you have a real heavy truck (yes the drive motors that require oil based lubricants). You end up losing actual trash capacity and that means you’re picking up less trash with the same amount of energy spent or doing more trips. Either way, it’s less economical. You’re using more power somewhere.
You’re not saving energy, you’re using more. Plus, it still uses hydraulic oils, every electrical cable/wire is covered in petroleum based plastics, there is plastic everywhere. The batteries themselves are manufacturing intensive and require lots of power and resources to make. To say this is ZERO emissions in incorrect…….
