Here is a bit of trivia for you. The lead actress, Zeenat Amaan was from LA and couldn’t speak Hindi properly when she did her first Bollywood movie. She studied in the University of Southern California. She was Miss India Asia Pacific - which is essentially, Miss India 2nd runner up in 1970. She went on to become Miss Asia that year. Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Rai were both first Runners up and therefore represented India in the Miss World competition.
Extra trivia she has Afghan roots as her dad is Afghan 🇦🇫

Shashi Kapoor is one of Bollywood's most underrated actors. He along with his wife Jeniffer founded Prithvi Theatres and he used to do Bollywood commercial movies mostly to fuel up his theatre group. He was first Indian actor to act in Hollywood movies . He is brother of Raj Kapoor "The Show Man" of India and grand father of Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. In this movie the girl has got a burned right side of face which she covers with a strand of hair and its a story of what true beauty is about- told in Raj Kapoor's style which caters to the common men.
As somebody rightly said in comments below the true meaning of this song can not be translated into English. And not only this song there are a whole lot of other songs which can not be translated to English in their true sense as English language is short of vocabulary to translate these songs.

The revealing part... it’s a signature style of the producer & director “Raj Kapoor” he did it in many of his films.
We all know how he was from inside.
Even even in Ram Teri Ganga maili he showed Mandakini breast feeding openly. And mera naam joker he showed Simi Garewal stark naked but he showed he from back.
Somehow his female characters never looked vulgar . It depends upon the purity of the direction . In Ram Teri Ganga maili - you never felt vulgarity but just a tribal - village belly naturally being her . The innocence Raj Kapoor captured is the key , the camera doesn’t focus unnaturally and facial expressions is important , is it innocence not lust that is captured .
I cannot imagine some one like Ramgopal Verma shooting these same scene , he can make it vulgar , with wrong focus etc .

Now things have changed but when I was kid few years back and each time i visited my native ( grandparents ) village the women working on the farm bathed in the stream and these women where working hence they fed babies openly , I have seen women walking back home with one kid hanging on his mother and feeding all the way home , kids beyond 2 were also fed as there was no much other nourishment, there was never the kind of awkward feeling like in the more educated and sophisticated society .
But today or in 90’s some directors show an city girl who has a good bathroom bathing under a falls just for a song 🤔, and shots are also too suggestive /embarrassing for us to watch . While Rajkapoor managed his scenes quite naturally . Also I always admired the female characters in his movie’s they were not just supporting character for the hero , they were individual characters with some essence of their own . They were feminine yet strong characters. There was sensitivity in his direction and not a very masculine approach .

Her dad never really paid much attention to her so she had an uncle who helped her more than her dad because her dad wanted a boy. In this movie throughout the time that she spends with Shashi... She always hid that side of her face so you can imagine at times it was funny... that he didn't see it... The reason a lot of her clothing was revealing is because instead of the elders helping her to dress..as she had no one to help her...they criticized her...
