Have you ever wanted to make your own soap? The benefits are amazing. First, you made it! Second the ingredients are all natural. Third, you are putting all natural product on your skin. This recipe does not contain any harsh ingredients that can cause damage to your skin.
It is a firm bar with lots of lather!
As promised in my video, here is the recipe I used to make my soap. This is a very basic and easy to make cold process soap.
This soap recipe needs to cure for at least 30 days.
Follow the directions. ALWAYS ADD THE LYE TO THE WATER - NEVER the other way around.
ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GEAR - Goggle and gloves - Lye can burn your skin.
Single Batch - will fill one soap mold
Double Batch - will fill two soap molds
Basic Soap Recipe - single batch that will fill one, 1.24L soap molds
450 g Olive Oil (any olive oil is fine)
    180 g Coconut Oil
    180 g Shea Butter
    90 g Castor Oil
315 g Water (tap is fine but I use distilled)
122 g Lye (aka Caustic Soda or Sodium Hydroxide)
    OPTIONAL VARIATIONS:
GINGER-TURMERIC-HONEY - Recipe For a double batch of basic soap recipe.
*Half this if you are only making one soap molds worth.*
1 tbsp - Ground dried Turmeric
1 tbsp - Ground dried Ginger
    1.5 tbsp - honey
Mix together and add to basic soap recipe at trace.
TEA TREE FACIAL BAR - Recipe For a double batch of basic soap recipe.
*Half this if you are only making one soap molds worth.*
    4 tbsp Ground Oatmeal
    25 grams Eucalyptus Essential Oil
    25 grams Lavender Essential Oil
    12.5 grams Tea Tree Oil
Let your soap rest in the soap mold for 1-2 days. Then, turn out the soap, cut in to bars and leave it in a well ventilated area for 1-2 months. Soap should be solid and dried right through.
    EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
    Safety glasses/goggles
    Kitchen gloves
    Apron or old clothing
Plastic tablecloth or sheeting to cover work surface
Digital kitchen scale with tare function
    large container or small bucket
Small plastic container with lid for weighing sodium hydroxide
    Immersion blender / stick blender
    silicone loaf mold
    Spoons or silicone spatulas
Warm blanket and/or insulated box. I leave mine in a box and cover with a bit of plastic to ensure dust does not settle on it.
    Drying rack
Some soap makers like to have vinegar on hand to neutralize lye if there are any splashes or spills, however the material safety data sheet for sodium hydroxide recommends skin/surfaces be rinsed with lots of fresh water.
