  • You list an item on eBay and then the offers start coming in to end the listing early. Ask yourself - who is this more likely to benefit - the buyer or the seller?

    I had a iron sculpture one time listed for $400.00 on Ebay and I had a guy emailing me and busting my chops about how I was nuts and telling me how he has a whole bunch and how he finds them all the time for $35.00 or less, so I told him I don't know what he was driving at, but if if he was willing to sell them at $40.00, I'll buy them all. Anyway, he emailed me back with a " ha-ha " because he didn't like having his chops busted and me throwing it back at him. Also, I did sell the sculpture for $400.00, although it did take a while.

      I think some people give false information to the seller in hopes that the seller lowers the price.

    Will, great advice on not ending your auction early. I was thinking about what you said, "why don't people offer more than the asking price". Many of these people like you are flippers and they think, what will work at yard/estate sale negotiations, will work at Ebay auctions. I'm a subscriber and have watched many of your finds, with you offering much lower offers than the true value. You have to ask yourself, why don't I offer more at yard/estate sales, when the person behind you could buy it in the next second. I think it's as you stated many times in your videos, Caveat emptor or "Let the buyer beware" and "Let the seller beware"too. I don't fault them for doing it, but at least make a respectable offer and not one that insults the seller's intelligence. I can see someone new to Ebay auctions needing the money quickly or think they may have overpriced an item and is willing to sell it for less because they have so little invested in it. I think the bottom-line is, do your homework on items you sell so you have a good idea of its value and by doing so, sell for the best price possible.

      You have to have a thick skin when dealing with the public and even more so when dealing with the public online. Some people say things online that they would never say in person. If I found an item that was listed at auction for $900 and thought it might bring $1500, it makes more sense to me to entice the seller with a $1000 offer to end the listing now. It always pays to do your homework as a seller so you know exactly what you have and there will be no second guessing. Happy New Year! Will

    I really loved that statue, and it will only go up in value. The buyer made a smart investment in a beautiful piece of art! And you can go out and find more treasures with that money! (Maybe in something's you do collect or to resell) 12 watchers on a rare collector piece = one was going to bid! Congratz!

    • @terminal99
      @terminal99  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sold it to a dealer in California. He is going to resell it. That's fine with me and I wish him all the luck. Watchers don't always mean there will be a buyer. One time I had a Schwinn Stingray bike that had 35 watchers. It ended without a bid.

    I agree with you 100 percent. I bet the persistent guy was a dealer, too lazy to go out in the field to find one himself. I bet that if you had sold it to him, he'd have re-listed it for $900 or more. It was a cool piece, for sure. You have a great eye. Keep the videos coming. I have learned a lot from you.

    Hey Will. Do you run 100% auctions? Also, are you running short term or longer term auctions?

    • @terminal99
      @terminal99  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Before I list an item, I figure out the price I want to get for it. Instead of then listing it at that price as a buy it now, I put it on 5 day auction at that price. Being on auction is a safety check. If my research was wrong and the item is worth more than I expect, people will bid on it. Also if there is an error in the listing such as a $200 item listed at $20, I get the chance to review and correct the listing. If I get one bid, I'm happy. If not, I convert the ended auction to buy it now at good till cancelled and usually add in make an offer.

    • @JimBennettThriftNinja
      @JimBennettThriftNinja 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting. I've been listing buy it now at my researched price with a buy it now option. I use buy it now to let me know if I'm off on the market value. For example, if I list an item at $200 and I get 3 offers around $125, I know I'm high on the market.. I very rarely run auctions. I haven't run an auction in about 3 years. However, your process now has me thinking..

    • @terminal99
      @terminal99  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no downside to this listing method. If I get one bid, I'm happy and it leaves the door open for me to get more than I expect. I always wonder why people brag that they sold an item within 15 minutes of listing it. A super quick sale usually means that the seller underpriced the item.

    • @terminal99

      You can cancel the bids and end a listing. Next time just list the item at a starting price you'll be happy with if it only gets one bid.

    Ebay is getting to be like Craigslist with people offering "cash right now" sight unseen. Always way below what you are asking like you are desperate for the money. My guess is they are all flippers and dealers looking to take advantage of others. If you like a piece, and the price is reasonable, buy it for crying out loud..

      I don't mind if I get reasonable offer, I actaully like it when I get those aggressive buyers but they have to make a good offer for me to accept it. Also some sellers post things at ridiculous prices even though there is a huge listings of the same item sold for much less.

  • @james9836

    I literally don't care about people pulling auction early. The fee is bull crap sellers should have the right to pull an item if their not sure what their selling. But James98 the fee is made to unsure trust on eBay. 🐂 💩 eBay could give a rats ass about the buyers they only have that fee just to profit off sellers
