It always blows my mind that instead of making it easy to replace common spare parts like a battery, most manufacturers make it almost impossible to do for an average person. This is the way of thinking that's gonna cost us our planet.
Anyways, thanks for making the video.

Thanks for a very straightforward and detailed explanation. Much appreciated.

This is the best video I found, to replace my battery. I had problems getting a gap to insert the thin plastic tool, by heating the phone with a hair, blow dryer, even though I progressively increased the temperature from the 80 C recommended to 110 C. I eventually checked for more videos and I found a couple that were using a heating plate. Since I didn't have one, I used my clothes iron: I measured the temperature with a digital thermometer for cooking, and found that in my iron the correct setting was between synthetics and wool; it worked. I suggest that once you find the setting, you keep it from accidentally changing with adhesive tape; if you have to reheat the phone for closing, to ensure that the glue along the edges seals the phone again, you want to use the same temperature setting and lay the phone on its back (I accidentally touched and moved the iron setting between wool and silk, which is much hotter, laid the phone screen down, and I damaged some color pixels in a corner).

In case its useful, I just did this procedure, and was way too concerned with the idea that too much heat would case the old battery to explode, so I didn't heat the glue enough, and used too much force when prying toward the corners, resulting in a cracked glass cover. So probably if it feels like its a lot of prying you need more heat.

Great video. I think I'll pay the $50 to get it changed.

Only if you have changed the battery:
If you get the error message after installation that it would be too cold to charge, you need to check again whether you have plugged the plug in tightly. For me, the error message came, then I opened the phone again and plugged the plug a little stronger into the port pure. Error message was then gone and the phone has charged normally.
I hope this could help you my boys and girls.

I have problem with my phone after battery change. When I tried to turn it ON after a battery change, it start and shows " Battery is too low, try to charge it" and shut down. I tried to charge it for few minutes (with originnal charger and cable) and it show the same. Any idea what could I do ?

So actually replacing the battery is "easy". The main problem is to separate the strong glue in the back case...

at this point I've used so much heat (focused on the part where you start) that I was burning my hands on the entire phone, but the damn cover still wouldn't move an inch. in the video it is magically propped up by just heat alone, but mine remains perfectly sealed even if I pull on it with a plunger... there is simply no gap anywhere to insert any tool, no matter how thin. I mean maybe a razor blade could work its way in, but I don't want to destroy my back cover or worse...

Have you managed to get it off yet? I've just had a go and I feel like I was about to set my phone on fire and yet the glass cover didn't even move a nanometre

@@josephhoult8445 I ended up taking it to a repair shop in the city center. Unfortunately I got my phone back with even worse battery life than I had originally, but on the plus side they hadn't re-attached the back properly, and I could easily slide my fingernail into the top-right corner. The website I got my replacement battery from sent me another one for free, and since my phone was now easy to take apart, I came back to this video and have now replaced the battery myself. Let's see if my battery life is finally restored... if not I'll just buy a Pixel 6a I guess... Anyway, I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. I also felt like any more heat would actually harm my phone.

@@HazewinDog I've had my OP6 for nearly 5 years now and was also struggling to get it open. I got impatient and said "f*ck it" and proceeded to blast my phone with heat 😂. I then managed to get it open and changed the battery. I got a tiny burn mark on the middle right of the screen, but barely noticable so I don't mind. In hindsight I probably needed better pry tools.
Take me back to the good old days when you just slid the back cover off and changed your battery lol.

Just went through this same thing. Ended up using a razor blade to get it started then sticking plastic picks in right beside it and going around the edge from there.
