I’m only slightly comforted by the thought that this is actually all down to (human) nature. Ever since the beginning of time, populations (of animals too!) and civilizations have crumbled due to their own faults (‘stupidities’) and population numbers have shown a wavy pattern. It wouldn’t surprise me if humankind is on the verge of a big, big crisis that cuts our numbers down by A LOT as part of this actually very normal natural cycle.

Interesting theory. A lot sounds very credible. But the last comment seemed a bit of an overreach ......He suggested that 'good information' would collectively yield 'good decisions'.
The judgement and value assessments vary so much between individuals that 'good decisions' may still diverge, even assuming everyone received the same 'good information'

Someone has to weight the AI to output what they want tho. Like if you just tell AI to “make a political AD, it may spit out half conservative/half progressive or any combination it wants, and even then, someone will have to pick which ones are good and which are bad, to teach the AI the right answer. It’s its own monolith. I mean you could try it, but it’ll be so unhinged or super one way that it’ll never work, on its own. This is a bit silly

The news business has been in a long disasterous freefall. No real info just headline clickbait. AI must be regulated and content/editorial staff held accountable. Smart people, will not tolerate it. YT has a battle on their hands daily. One tip, narration which is AI generated tends to pronounce words badly.

if i may address the idea our judgements are not a product of our human nature i must say that cannot to me be the case. i think that it is because of our human nature that history rhymes. the information that has become available since the printing press (let alone radio and television to the computer age and social media) i think plays with us. my fear of ai is that ai can “really play” with us. if we are to be able to overcome this we will first have to understand what it is to be human and who we “really are”. and if you ask any half way decent sociologist or philosopher they will most likely say “who wants to deal with that”.
